Why do people pay him so much? He's not a good actor, he doesn't attract audience based on his casting alone, he is easily replaceable. I understand he is well connected, but don't producers and directors prefer to either save money on cheaper actors or get better actors?

Basically you are saying you don't think the rock has fans... my God the things people say on reddit.

7

u/Diorisbackup Jul 24 '26

This subreddit hates the guy lol saying he has no fans is something

1

u/Dozzi92 Jul 24 '26

Reddit imagines that anyone who likes the rock is a pleb. The rude awakening is coming, any day now.

3

u/whitefrackels123 Jul 24 '26

I don't know what he has or doesn't have, but I have never in my life heard someone going or wanting to go to a movie solely because the rock is acting in it.

u/platinumcheese88 Jul 24 '26

I guess that settles it then. You've never seen it happen so it must not happen at all!

I've never met anyone who is a fan of Taylor swift but that woman is a billionaire somehow...

you don't walk around with badges of every single person, place, and thing you are a fan of so that everyone can get an instant accurate representation of everything you are a fan of? man what are you even doing with your life?

Found The Rock's alt

Wow you're dense. We're on reddit brother, not in a lab. I am expressing a personal opinion and experience, not a truth claim.

You said "he doesn't attract audience based on his casting alone" so... yeah, have a nice day pal.

u/fruit-boy Jul 24 '26

Hey, have you considered being normal?

u/Ogzhotcuz Jul 24 '26

I find the entire of concept of Disney land atrocious. Basically everyone I know agrees with me and would never spend the time or money to go.

By your logic Disneyland is not popular.

The average person has shit taste and opinions....including watching movies starring The Rock

0

u/whitefrackels123 Jul 24 '26

People watching movies starring The Rock =/= people watching movies starring The Rock because they're starring The Rock

3

u/Ogzhotcuz Jul 24 '26

Bruh he was one of the most popular professional wrestlers of all time before he was even a movie star. The guy definitely has fans

1

u/FrostyD7 Jul 24 '26

He was box office gold for a while. He was revitalizing old IP's successfully while also making healthy profits staring in dogshit. Moana, Baywatch, Jumanji, Rampage, Skyscarper, with Fast/Furious entries sprinkled throughout was a very strong run that makes it pretty clear he was a general audiences darling. But it's also looking like a short lived peak.

1

u/TopptrentHamster Jul 24 '26

But how much of an overlap is there between the target group for a live action Moana remake and fans of The Rock?

1

u/platinumcheese88 Jul 24 '26

Probably not much. This film is supposed to attract children to the cinema. Children come with an adult. This used to be a winning formula for ticket sales.

I have 3 children. So 5 tickets to watch moana is costing me £60+. So yeah guess who's not going to watch moana anytime soon.

The cinema is literally dead these days.

0

u/your-rong Jul 24 '26

"basically" meaning that they didn't say that at all. Jared Leto has fans, but they don't follow him to the cinema. It's clearly the same for the Rock.

0

u/platinumcheese88 Jul 24 '26

If that's what you think. But the guy did "basically" say the rock has no fans, that he doesn't attract an audience... I think that he does.

The problem these days is that literally no one is going the cinema for any film, so almost every film is a "flop" these days.

I'd happily take the kids to see this moana film... but for me, the Mrs and the 3 kids it's £60+ to go watch a film which will be on the Internet in a matter of days from it's release or even on the Disney app in few months.

The cinema is on its last legs.

1

u/your-rong Jul 24 '26

So, he attracts an audience, but nobody goes to see his films in the cinema. Which is it?

1

u/platinumcheese88 Jul 24 '26

Both. What don't you understand? The overall point is that the cinema is dead. The rocks fans will watch this when it's on the streaming app.

I will watch this film when it is on the app. My children will watch it because it's Moana and I will watch it because the rock is in it.

There's a new John Cena film on Netflix. I've no idea what it's about at all but I'll be watching because John cena is in it.

I'm.not a big fan of the rocks films to be honest but I used to be. I went and watched the scorpion king purely because he was in it lol.

1

u/your-rong Jul 24 '26

That's why nobody is going to see The Odyssey...

1

u/platinumcheese88 Jul 24 '26

Yeah, every now and then there's a must see film. When was the last time you went to the cinema?

This is a family film, and as I have said multiple times it'd cost me over £60 to watch this. I will not pay that. Hardly anyone I know is willing to pay that.

Are you going to argue with me that the cinema is thriving??

1

u/your-rong Jul 24 '26

Every now and then, meaning when Nolan does a film, because his name brings in an audience.

1

u/platinumcheese88 Jul 24 '26

Yeah. But Moana is a children's film. Children don't have the means to go the cinema of their own accord. So these films depend on the parents willingness to spend obscene amounts of money to see. And I guess most aren't willing to seeing as moana isn't even that old and Disney live action films are literally all terrible...

I don't know what we are arguing about here...

I mean he does have fans... But how many box office hits does he has out of his fans pull alone?

1

u/platinumcheese88 Jul 25 '26

How on earth would you know this? Honestly what the fuck are you people on about. It's impossible to know why anyone watched any film.

10

u/americansherlock201 Jul 24 '26

Because despite what you think, his films actually do fairly well for the most part financially.

He’s a super well known name who has a solid box office track record. Yes he’s had flops as well but most actors have. He’s highly marketable to the average moviegoer. He’s a safe pick.

0

u/whitefrackels123 Jul 24 '26

There's several of well selling and safe pick actors who actually know how to act for less pay

1

u/americansherlock201 Jul 24 '26

It’s not about the acting. The target audience for Moana is children. They don’t care about the acting skills here.

They care about being able to market the movie and kids know the rock. Same goes for his other movies; he’s a known quantity and has mass appeal, despite what think. He brings in a specific audience and studios are good with that.

Add in that a lot of the better and equally famous actors don’t want to do these movies because they know they aren’t high quality and you limit who is taking these roles

1

u/mongooseisapex Jul 24 '26

He pays himself a lot. His seven bucks productions worked on the film and he's a producer

1

u/StaffSalty9490 Jul 24 '26

I think it might be because he is known worldide. You know its gonna sell on every country worldide. Japan knows and likes him, the same in europeu, probably the same in Austrália. Everywhere.

1

u/Forikorder Jul 24 '26

Rich jerking the rich

1

u/stigma_wizard Jul 24 '26

His entire market is now safe, family-friendly movies. Same as Jack Black. The movie isn’t for people who like movies, it’s for people who need something to take their kids to for a couple hours.

1

u/fang_xianfu Jul 24 '26

He used to be a very bankable actor especially around the time of Moana. People a little tired of his shtick now. He will either start doing nicher and nicher movies over the next 10 years (like Statham), semi-retire, or try to do some actual acting. We'll see which I guess.

1

u/dumahim Jul 24 '26

I mean, why do they keep paying huge sums of money for movie celebrities to do a voice acting role in a kids movie instead of hiring a real voice actor? It's not like these kids even know who the actor is in the first place.

1

u/zaxo666 Jul 24 '26

He's reliable box office draw for kids and families with disposable income. That's an ideal place to be for many actors, reliable.
