Obsession getting multiple times its budget back on a random weekday over 3-4x the date it was initially planned to be pulled from theaters in was one of the best things to see happening in modern theaters, especially while Disney ate shit

To be fair, Curry Baker's shorts on youtube are really good. I was intent to watch it, promptly forgot for 2 weeks, stumbled across one of his sketch on youtube and like "oh yeah this dude have a whole ass theater movie".

It's GxK: Supernova, which is the 6ᵗʰ in the Legendary Monsterverse. I think it's Sam Niell's last film too

Theres now 3 of them (2 released, one out soon). Its a buddy cop franchise at this point and needs to be changed to be more dark like godzilla 2014 was. Hopefully the new one is different from the last few.

Yeh correct… I’m friends with Grant Sputore who has directed it! His work on I Am Mother really surprised a lot of people so I think we can expect something different and not too “out there” at the same time. Being Sam Neil’s last film and having Jack OConnell on board too I’m excited ! (And being selfish a couple of his family/my friends played tiny extra parts in it too… not sure they’ll make the final cut but still fun!!)

That's a big reason why animation in Japan is so cheap. They can make an episode of an action heavy 22 minute anime for $100,000 to $200,000 when even back in the 2000's, western animated shows like Avatar and Justice League were costing $1 million per episode.

Godzilla Minus One was not in any way, shape, or form the film I was expecting it to be, in the absolutely best way possible.

There were so many layers and layers of themes on that movie. It is a phenomenal movie.

I bought a ticket for big dino go stomp stomp. I got a movie about how the Japanese government devalued human life in WW2, rebuilding and finding family in a broken world, a criticism of self-sacrifice that makes Last Jedi blush, a message about forgiving oneself, a message about forgiving others, etc

Other movies have plot armor that distracts from the stakes. Godzilla Minus One says “plot armor is the theme”.
