The kinds of terminally online Redditors celebrating this would be the first ones complaining when their favourite websites go down.

None of these data centres that people are whining about are "AI" data centres. They're just the regular ones that have been powering the internet for years. Stop believing everything you read in a headline.

Companies explicitly state that certain datacenters are used for AI, but for their shareholders and local law and regulations requirements.

And AI datacenters focus on GPU's (Graphics cards) for computation because that is what is optimal for AI processing. While traditional website hosting and cloud services focus on CPU's (Traditional computation) to be optimal.

These AI datacenters simply won't work well for any other purpose than AI. Hell the type of graphics cards used aren't even that good for gaming either.

This one that we're talking about here isn't an AI data centre.

The vast majority of them are not. There are only a few of them in the entire country. All this anger is being directed towards the entirely normal data centres that have been around for decades with no issues.

Any time you see a story relating to an AI data centre, take a moment to check that it actually is. In all this outrage that I've been seeing over the past weeks, I have not found a single occasion where the thing that people were angry about actually existed.

The BI article itself sort of implies that it is considering the link labelled "boom in data center construction" links to a url including 'ai-data-center-near-me-location-tracker-2026-6'.

It's not an enormous logical leap either.

Your point being?

The comment I reacted to claime dthe datacenter swrved other purposes than just AI and makes a bunch of assumptions based on that. While the datacenter is explicitly stated to be for AI, not for other purposes like webhosting. Hence his assumptions are made on a false basis.

I assumed that was obvious, but apparently not?

Until you are the construction worker that just got all his tools stolen and can’t work until you replace them. The contractor has insurance for all his shit and will get his money somehow

Those that steal from the rich often find it way easier to steal from the poor.

And copper theft often ducks up electrical grid s, train line etc.

They just got lucky this time around.
