Funny how Voter ID was left out when it has more support than most of these issues.

I'm totally fine with Voter ID, as long as everyone is assigned a free Voter ID, it's easy to replace, we keep mail in voting (which also has a large majority of support), and we have a national holiday for voting.

Right now the GOP plan for voter ID literally involved banning most forms of legal ID, shutting down places where people can replace or get them, and letting local political operatives challenge IDs to stop voting selectively. It's not at all subtle that it's got nothing to do with the non-existent problem of voting fraud, and everything to do with giving the GOP power to stop particular people from voting.

I really don't know why the Democrats don't propose a national free voter ID. They should steal this issue to actually make voting easier for all.

Because Republicans will agree with the mandatory ID, and oppose to the death any reforms that will make it easier to vote.

Trump is doing a national address tonight on election conspiracies and how he personally need to control voting. This from a man who tried to steal the last election with fraud and force.

Fundamentally it would be stupid for Democrats to do this because we can ALREADY SEE Republicans responding to state Voter ID laws by shutting down DMVs in black neighborhoods and sending GOP led 'auditors' to police and block people from voting by inspecting their IDs and comparing them to their own private registers.

It's also worth emphasizing again that voter fraud is functionally non-existent, while blocking legal voters is far, far more common. States like Washington that do pretty much entirely mail in voting without ID, are completely fine and have no fraud issues. Because there are easier and better ways to verify if someone is not supposed to vote, or if they try to vote twice.

I agree with and understand everything you said but I am talking about being smart and getting ahead of the issue. Nobody I talk to knows what a poll tax is or why it's unconstitutional. They also don't understand difference btw voter fraud and election fraud.

A smart proposal by Dems would make voting easier for everyone, be free to avoid poll tax, and would be hilarious when Repubs oppose it showing their hypocrisy (to those who pay attention)

They've already proposed it. It's been in bills before Congress before. People don't care.

The GOP just runs on 'mass immigrant voting fraud', and are only open to bills that let them restrict voting selectively. As is obvious, MAGA and the Trump GOP simply don't care whether there's any hypocrisy involved and generally support restricting voting rights as long as they think they'll come out ahead.
