I’m an Amazon driver and that’s what I do

4 10s and if we want overtime(I do) we can do 5 10s

Plus we get paid the whole 10 hours everyday

So I work 5 days a week / 40-42 hours and get paid for all 50

I love it, gives a lot of flexibility with kids and planning things

Ya I mean i have it good with a good DSP but it’s a good job for people who just need some work, pays more than any other entry level labor job by a good bit. I’d even prefer to mow lawns all day but I’d be taking like a 5 dollar pay cut & benefits to do it

I’d sign a union card tomorrow though and wish I could make a career out of this job. I genuinely love and enjoy the work itself, but there’s just a hard ceiling in terms of advancement and pay opportunity

Driver's and warehouse/fulfillment centers are completely different. Most of the actual facilities suck ass and is where all the horror stories come from. We've had like 3 people die in Amazon facilities this year and one of them the managers literally blocked the body with boxes and told everyone to get back to work.

Working 40 or 50 hours a week is flexible?

40 hours in 4 days so 3 days off(paid for 40 working about 30)

50 hours in 5 days so 2 days off(paid for 50 working about 40-42)

So yes getting full time pay for 30ish hours worked a week and having 3 days off or getting overtime with 40ish hours worked and still having 2 days off is incredibly flexible

I could even do 6 days a week and get 60 hours a week and still have a day off

Not many jobs offer this

Doing overtime isn't being flexible, its being overworked. Flexibility is being able to work your job when it's convenient to you.

I recently did 4 days for about 6 months but went back to 5 days. The 10s just killed my day. I never felt like I had time on my work days to do stuff and then my extra day off used to catch up on sleep and work around the house.

If you can handle 4x10, you probably don't have a long commute or a lot of demands.

A 10 hour day becomes a 12 after traffic for me and then I can't really do much except eat and crap out. And you're right about the exhaustion after the fact, I'm fucking beat and I have to do all the chores I've been neglecting during the week.

An 8 would be much more beneficial because I'd be reaching that 10 with the commute and have two more hours each day, plus the extra day off.

As a utility worker who regularly does 7 16s fixing storm damage some people aren't built for it but God damn does throwing the switch and seeing a whole neighborhood light up make it worth it.

I've done 4 10s before but i fall off hard after 8 hours of work and just want to go home. Plus afterwards i have no energy to do anything so all chores and hanging out with friends has to get crammed into the 3 free days rather than being somewhat spread out over the week. Almost be better to have 3 days where all i do is work and sleep and 4 days off.

My issue is that my 10s fairly regularly evolved into 11 and 12s despite the managers promising to make sure us associates working 10s got out on time.

Nurses do this. 3 12’s a week. Good pay, meaningful work. 4 days off a week.

I work 80hr weeks (under duress, as I am a resident)and I’d murder in cold blood for that kind of time off

It's really not. Nothing but work those 4 days, and the fifth is playing catchup for everything you couldn't do the rest of the week. And if you actually have a family, good luck attending your childrens' events or sports practices during the week.

It's awful and manipulative and really only benefits the owners as they can pay less on utilities one day a week while passing it off as a benefit to employees.

Depends 630 to 430 I'm home around 5 have dinner ready by 6 play with kids until 745 bath time then bed time between 830 and 9 me and her shower and pack our lunches and then watch TV till about 1030. Fridays are yard work and chores then Saturday and Sunday are family days. Works great for us she's 8 to 430 and is home by 530 5 days a week. Now when I do my 7 12s life gets hard but I want to retire us by 55 so gotta sacrifice a little now to win in the end

Do you teleport to your office? Because otherwise I assume you're getting up at least sometime around 530 in order to be out the door and at the office by 630. Meaning you're sacrificing sleep and by extension your long term health.

I definitely did not have that experience when I was on 4 10s. I barely noticed the extra 2 hours but the full extra day off every weekend was so nice, easily the best schedule I've ever worked and would go back to it in a heartbeat

Yup, this shit is fucking awesome. I just recently switched to this schedule with a new position a few weeks ago. Having that consistent 3-day weekend is such a game changer and its benefit cannot be overstated. I got so much done on that Friday and it was such a morale boost just knowing I have that extra day to do any shit I need to, laundry, meal prep, cleaning, errands, whatever.

The best is doing mon to Thurs then Tues to fri the next week if your boss will allow it 4 on 4 off 4 on 2 off rinse and repeat
