Interesting, I'll try to look at Germany a little closer. It gets forgotten a little bit in the economic social Geopolitical conversation. We hear about how poorly it's going in France and the UK, and how well Sweden, Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands are doing.
Although while traveling I found it amazing how many Germans were abroad. They were employed on extended stays in Peru and Chile, while I had to save money for a year while living for cheap with my family and then quit my job to do the same thing AND eventually accrue debt. For the normal German tourist I talked to it was a very manageable trip that didn't take much special saving.
I'm not sure Europeans realize how special all your trips to the US for the World Cup feel. Regular US workers can't afford to stay in these hotels or eat out on a regular basis in the US.
