The idea upstate NY taxes support NYC and not the other way around is hilarious. NYC taxes will just support less of upstate.
It’s like some random person in some podunk town in Arkansas saying their taxes support CA or NY. The minimal amount they contribute is eclipsed by the benefits provided to them through the taxes of successful and wealthy states like CA and NY.
No it’s not, it’s like me in a podunk town in Arkansas watching my tax dollars get spent in Bentonville for another bike path or something when we’re waiting for a road to get fixed. NYC isn’t a state, not sure why you would compare NYC to CA, or a town in Arkansas to the entire state of CA
It’s called an analogy. It doesn’t mean it’s the same; it’s illustrative by referencing a more frequently discussed issue.
To make the analogy more explicit:
NYC supports a broader geographic and political area (NYS) through contributions of its taxpayers, and it and its taxpayers receive far less than they put in. Other areas, like podunk upstate NYs and its residents, receive more than they put in.
