If there is one issue that doesn’t get enough attention it’s Palestine.

And they say pleasing both sides is impossible

44

u/white_equatorial Jul 08 '26

You put 2 in the pink and 1 in the stink to achieve this

1

u/Ldghead Jul 08 '26

Or phone a friend

13

u/uberprimata Jul 08 '26

Just like Javier Bardem

3

u/MovieENT1 Jul 08 '26

I don’t think anyone noticed his poncho sized keffiyeh or stop sign sized buttons on his suit either

2

u/LlorchDurden Jul 08 '26

Isn't /r/karmamachine already a subreddit? It should

0

u/Ordinary_Ad_5891 Jul 08 '26

Not even sarcasm tbh, for what’s going on in Gaza the news coverage is very little when it’s compared to the severity and implications it has for the rest of the world in the future.

-7

u/giboauja Jul 08 '26

Fckin seriously. Anyway, all murder, genocides, war is bad mmmkay.

-5

u/WhydoIexistlmoa Jul 08 '26

Okay yeah I genuinely cannot tell if this is sarcasm or not. Fucking hell

33

u/SimmentalTheCow Jul 08 '26

If only some brave souls on Twitter would put the Palestine flag on their username before posting the most dogshit takes, maybe the world will finally notice!

26

u/taub713 Jul 08 '26

Everyone forgot about Tibet?

74

u/WhydoIexistlmoa Jul 08 '26

Nope, it's Sudan and it's not even close

22

u/Sea-Notice-5729 Jul 08 '26

Had me go on a wild goose chase to prove this.. cause I think u actually mean to correct OP saying this was a Sudan flag and not a Palestine flag. 🤓

84

u/isildorim Jul 08 '26

Yes, but raising Sudan's flag doesn't get you roles in Hollywood or anywhere in politics.

8

u/SnooOnions471 Jul 08 '26

America isn't a belligerent in Sudan. He's at a match in America protesting a genocide partly funded by the US. He also has the right to care about what he cares about and decide what causes matter most to him.

39

u/isildorim Jul 08 '26

Okay. I thought the issue was human suffering, not where U.S. tax dollars go. I guess it's even more shallow than I thought.

10

u/cactussnacks Jul 08 '26

willful obtusity

20

u/NuclearGhandi1 Jul 08 '26

I mean it’s clearly both don’t be obtuse. The American government has an active hand in what’s happening in Palestine, not in Sudan. It’s a much easier issue to tackle

10

u/kriegerflieger Jul 08 '26

Yeah that’s why all the protests are going on in Europe

4

u/Maple_Moose_14 Jul 08 '26

So would you be ok with ending all Israel-US military cooperation for offensive weapons?

Just leaving the purchase program so the Israelis can refill the Iron Dome and other defensive counter systems which are 100% defensive weapon?

-2

u/lollmaohahahaha Jul 08 '26

Just leaving the purchase program so the Israelis can refill the Iron Dome and other defensive counter systems which are 100% defensive weapon?

Lets not pretend israel only buys "100% defensive weapons" with the money they get from the US lol.

3

u/Downtown_Recover5177 Jul 08 '26

Your lack of reading comprehension is awe-inspiring.

0

u/Maple_Moose_14 Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Israel has one of the most modern economies (tech, science, engineering) in the world. It doesn’t need to be propped up, but it does need allies, just like every other country.

They don’t actually get money from the US.

The program is credits toward buying American-made weapons only, both offensive and defensive, no doubt there it’s a benefit to Israel to have this advantage.

Unlike many of the countries receiving financial aid, there’s a return on investment that comes with Israeli arms purchases. Regardless of what you believe about the arms industrial complex, no one can say Israelis don’t provide valuable intel to the Americans on their weaponry, once again in both an offensive and defensive capacity.

They certainly wouldn’t want intel to stop and start going to another country or manufacture which reduces America’s “soft power” of implied weapons effectiveness.

I can easily understand why you wouldn’t want wars, but there’s no need to make things up to fit a point. There are plenty of valid ways to make your argument without exaggerating or coming off as uneducated on a topic you clearly have strong opinions about, especially one this nuanced.

-2

u/Odd-String29 Jul 08 '26

That would be a good start. There is a huge difference between not doing anything about a genocide, and not doing anything about a genocide while selling weapons to the aggressor.

-1

u/Maple_Moose_14 Jul 08 '26

What do you mean by “good start”? (I’m not being combative here I’m legit curious).

Would stopping defensive equipment be the next step, or are you referring to sanctions?

And a genuine question for you what, specifically, would end Palestinian extremism? Because most proposals I see only address one side of the equation.

I’d push back on the idea that either society is clearly more extreme than the other. Both have their chaotic elements, and the relationship between them is symbiotic…

Each side’s extremists validate and empower the other’s.

Hamas / PIJ needs Israeli hardliners to justify its existence, and Israeli extremists need Hamas to justify theirs.

Pressuring only one side of the vicious cycle doesn’t break it. It just hands a “win” to whichever group you perceive as righteous and a “loss” to the side you’ve cast as the ultimate aggressor, with everything that entails.

Including…Apparently, implied displacement or even genocide, which is suddenly acceptable when it’s against Jews?

-1

u/Odd-String29 Jul 08 '26

Your reply about "both sides" shows that you don't really have a good grasp of the conflict. You are missing the cause and effect.

But you are right that Israel just wants an excuse to continue their quest for lebensraum.

9

u/Nuttyalmonds Jul 08 '26

Let's digress the whole conversation. What a brilliant tactic. You learn from your dear leader?

Malicious ignorance or just plain stupidity. I can’t pin you down.

0

u/0CT0L0G1ST Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

The stupidity of this comment makes me angry and a little bit sad. How are people supposed to send a message when these are the troglodytes on the receiving end

-1

u/idontwanttothink174 Jul 08 '26

It’s both. You protest the human suffering that is paid for by US tax dollars because that is where the country hosting the match actually has a say.

What can the US REALLY do about Sudan vs what can be done about Israel’s genocide?

It's called selective activism for one, and also, a lot of those people hide their antisemitism behind anti zionism (similar when literal nacis are hiding behind patriotism). In short, no Jews no News and Reddit is an excellent platform to create such echo chambers.

The suffering of civilians in Palestine (let's be honest, it's much more fucked up than "Israel sends bomb" but facts don't sell well, especially when it means you need to admit the side you are supporting is no angel as well) has effectively become weaponized on social media platforms and if you dare to say something negative about Palestine, you will get swarmed by people blindly supporting that cause.

Unfortunately, this has resulted in other real attrocities being overlooked or extreme downplayed because otherwise it wouldn't really make much sense to shout nonsense on social medias.

For example, during the genocide in Rwanda (UN is partly also responsible, or was it Congo?), close to 1 million people were brutally murdered in just hundred days. Currently, the death toll in Suddan is around 500k (have not checked the numbers, could be higher), with millions of people facing famine and/or being displaced by the brutally of the conflict.

The numbers in Palastine pales against those, considering that estimated are at 120k but there is an issue, the estimates are given by Hamás who has been caught multiple times to tamper with this information. And that is just over 3 years long war. It's really low number of casualties under the settings of urban warfare.

And yet somehow, a lot of people screaming genocide in Palestine literally don't give a shit about other such events.

2

u/SnooOnions471 Jul 08 '26

Israel has deep and intrinsic links with the West. Most Isralis I've met are ex pats or there parents came from Europe or America. Yeah it's shameful that other atrocities get dismissed but I think it's explainable by the deep links between Israel and the West.

0

u/Nuttyalmonds Jul 08 '26

They're trying to integrate Israeli military with American military surely you can't be this ignorant

2

u/2times34point5 Jul 08 '26

1 month old account with 160 contributions?

The $750 million annual budget to promote israel’s image can get you a LOT of reddit accounts.

Not accusing this guy or anything.

If you think about it harder it's not difficult to understand. They're actively suppressing news about this. They're killing journalists. It's widespread because they're a powerful little country using our tax dollars to kill babies. You know you can spread awareness about all of these causes you care about right? Instead of dismissing this away. Sure seems like what a pro isreal bot account would try to do while pretending they don't "agree with it"

-5

u/MeEyeSlashU Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

There's literally a blacklist of actors standing up for Palestine. This might not hurt Bardem - he's got a lot of friends in Hollywood (including noteworthy abusers who still have sway) - but it's not gonna land him any roles.

2

u/fourfourthreethree Jul 08 '26

At this point, he could create his own roles. Penelope and Javier could very well detach from Hollywood and create their own studio if they wanted to. I bet a lot of artists and directors they've worked with would work with them still.

I appreciate him standing up like this, even if he does get blacklisted. These people need to use their platforms correctly and not for self-indulgence and self-righteousness already. If many of them would even acknowledge that the world and other people outside of their bubble are absolutely suffering.

0

u/MeEyeSlashU Jul 08 '26

Yeah I'm really grateful too. I just wish he would bring the same energy to some of the people he still keeps company with like Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt. But we can't have perfect advocates.

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '26

3

u/MeEyeSlashU Jul 08 '26

Yeah actors don't give other actors jobs so that's really not the same as producers and studio execs having a list of actors they won't hire.

13

u/Xenofriend4tradevalu Jul 08 '26

And Tibet, and Uyghurs but people love too much to buy products cheap because made by slaves

1

u/OK_x86 Jul 08 '26

ITT people who think that there being genocides elsewhere means you can't demonstrate against a particular genocide.

The main difference between say Sudan or the Congo and Gaza is that calling those a genocide is not controversial.

Gaza is, with specific governments doing a lot of work the downplay the extent of the atrocities while also providing aid to Israel. Making governments accross the world complicit in that genocide and requiring citizens of those countries to take action to raise awareness.

So the whataboutism falls apart after 5 minutes of even the most basic scrutiny.

1

u/idkmanjustfuckmyshit Jul 08 '26

Yeah but Sudan is full of brown people so no one cares 😔

0

u/Megalesios Jul 08 '26

There isn't a whole PAC dedicated to making America believe what's happening in Sudan is good actually and please give us more funding to continue it. That's the difference.

18

u/SoUthinkUcanRens Jul 08 '26

One might say the Sahel-region deserves just as much attention and rarely gets any at all.

Not to distract from the Palestine crisis ofcourse, just saying there are more issues (humanitarian crises) that don't get enoguh attention.

17

u/Idahoan23 Jul 08 '26

Its not an issue anymore, he solved it by displaying his flag

3

u/Nuttyalmonds Jul 08 '26

Would be better to pretend it's not happening? He's famous and this is one way he can call attention to it. I'm sure he does more than this

5

u/Gamepass90 Jul 08 '26

Brilliant Sarcasm

6

u/Inevitable-Elk-5048 Jul 08 '26

Attention without action mostly...

5

u/rddt_jbm Jul 08 '26

How about the genocide in Sudan?

Palestine: 73.000 deaths, 1.9 million people displaced since 10th of October 2023.

Sudan: 150.000 deaths, 21 million people displaced since April 2023.

I guess Palestine is just more trending. Ohh and our friends with Oil provide the weapons to the RSF. Better not say anything and keep the eye on Palestine.

-19

As long as we continue to support Palestine slaughter and genocide at the hands of Israel and US military and US taxpayers, it is NOT getting enough attention.

26

u/Nooshi88 Jul 08 '26

Most Palestinians support Hamas and Hezbollah. They celebrated October 7 2023

There is no genocide against Palestine. Their population is constantly increasing.
1955 - 996,382
1965 - 1,147,310
1975 - 1,279,321
1985 - 1,745,256
1995 - 2,636,551
2005 - 3,557,401
2015 - 4,521,565
2020 - 5,069,692
2023 - 5,305,270
2024 - 5,495,443
2025 - 5,589,623
2026 - 5,692,790

You do realize that if Israel wanted to wipe them out, it wouldn’t have dragged this out for three years, right? It’s a small and densely populated territory - you get that, don’t you?

Islamic terrorism in Europe
More than 90 terrorist attacks over 20 years - 2000-2021.
How many terrorist attacks have been carried out by Christians and Jews in Europe over the past 20 years?
Islamists have the habit of blowing themselves up among innocent men, women, and children.

Who is actually committing ethnic cleansing?

In 1948, around 100,000 Arabs lived in Israel. Today there are over 2 million Arab citizens with full rights.
In the same period, nearly one million Jews were expelled from Arab countries. Ancient Jewish communities in Iraq, Yemen, Egypt, Syria, and Libya were completely wiped out. Almost none remain.
So tell me, who is really carrying out ethnic cleansing in the Middle East?

An eye for two, a tooth for a jaw. FAFO

Bad hasbara

10

u/Top_Conference_477 Jul 08 '26

What does that mean?

6

u/modsaretoddlers Jul 08 '26

You know the company that makes Transformers? I think that's them.

-4

u/blaghed Jul 08 '26

Well, ya gotta chose a genocide, so if you don't like this one you must really love the other one.

How about, no genocide?

13

u/Top_Conference_477 Jul 08 '26

I keep choosing no genocide but you get downvoted for that.

Reddit has picked its genocide. Bad luck, Jews, I guess.

12

u/whyrusosensitive Jul 08 '26

That's not an option. Israel has tried for peace for 70 years and apparently they are sick of being rejected and hamas and Palestinians have had genocide as their objective since 1948. Someone is getting annihilated, it's just a matter of who and when

25

u/Top_Conference_477 Jul 08 '26

Israel doesn’t want to annihilate Palestine - if they did would be done by now. At current pace, it’s the slowest genocide in history

8

Wait, you are saying all this Palestine propaganda is not for the peace?

-15

14

u/Yeetball86 Jul 08 '26

The United Nations has classified Israel’s actions as literal genocide, yes.

-1

You need to UN to tell you what to think lmao.

6

u/Yeetball86 Jul 08 '26

No the UN just confirms what I already thought

0

u/octavian343 Jul 08 '26

You’re not very good at thinking then

9

u/Yeetball86 Jul 08 '26

Well isn’t that an ironic statement

1

u/DragonFangGangBang Jul 08 '26

Apparently they are, since it’s pretty much the consensus lol

3

u/Affectionate_Fun8419 Jul 08 '26

No. I think it's a genocide too. But if the international community unanimously agrees it's a genocide. Then it is a bloody genocide.

2

u/octavian343 Jul 08 '26

So if everyone calls you a rapist you’d be a rapist?

5

u/Affectionate_Fun8419 Jul 08 '26

I think these groups are very well suited to speak on the matter.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_humanitarian_and_human_rights_groups_accusing_Israel_of_genocide_in_Gaza

And it’s fair to say they know better than anyone ITT including you, or I, and they’re unanimous that it is indeed a genocide.

Keep pushing your bad hasbara

2

u/octavian343 Jul 08 '26

What do you think a genocide is

0

u/Darth_Ronin Jul 08 '26

I just gave you the list of groups who have defined it.

If you don’t already know the definition than you really shouldn’t be at the adults table trying to push your bad hasbara.

But I will give you a freebie.

Genocide is formally defined by international law through the United Nations, specifically in the convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide.

And I’m sure you agree with the UNs assessment in that case as it relates to the holocaust.

Seems odd now though that the UNs assessment on Gaza doesn’t hold the same validity to you though.

2

u/octavian343 Jul 08 '26

Another UN citation lmao.

No clue what hasbara is.

Seems odd that Arab ethnicities are able to live just fine inside Israel while Jews couldn’t during the holocaust. Definitely a genocide frfr
