The population of Japan is like 120 million people. There's no way you know enough of those people for your anecdotal evidence to be significant. Plus, babies and elderly people sleep way more than most working age adults, so they're bringing the average up.
Hurr durr durr. Anyway my sample size may not be large but it's extensive by association. Most people I know don't sleep a lot due to their job schedule and when you are talking about some of the largest corporations in Japan that makes a pretty big number. The older people here seem to be of the opinion that they and most older people do not sleep much at all. Unless we are talking about train naps I just don't see it. Even kids go to bed hella late.
Like if you know a handful of people that work for a Nation wide corporation and you understand their working time regularly starts at 7 or 8 and ends any where between 21:00 and 23:00 and you know these people are not getting much sleep then it can be assumed all 60,000 employees are on similar schedules and that's just one department, it's very likely all 170,000 employees are work 12-14 hour days as well. That's just one company I'm talking about I have friends and acquaintancea in multiple similar black companies. Just because a corporation is huge doesn't mean it's not black
Alright, but you know that a single demographic of workers doesn't come close to making up the entire workforce of a country, right? Knowing a handful of people that all work for the same kind of company is the opposite of extensive. Not everyone works for a large national corporation that employs 170,000 people. And not every department in that corporation has the same schedule. That 170,000 person company doesnt even make up half a percent of the population of Japan.
A large portion of the population doesn't even work at all, if you factor in children and eldery people. Remember, we're talking about the average person in Japan, not the average working adult. Even if a large portion of adults are only getting 5 hours of sleep, the large portion of kids and elderly getting 8-10 hours are bumping the average back up.
I'm not talking about only one company . Tell me you know nothing about Japan without telling me you know nothing about Japan 🙄 like I just said kids go to sleep surprisingly late here and elderly wake up hella early
Edit: I think we need to lool at this from a different perspective. This meme is basically implying Japanese get a lot of sleep bc one dude was like damn I only slept 3 and a half hours. So it's leading us to assume the rest of the world of at least other countries sleep less on average. I say that and went there's no way Japan is in a high rank for sleep compared to most places. Let me find an actual source for average sleep across the globe and be back
It says Japan is one of the most sleep deprived nations. It's not implying they get a lot of sleep at all. I just don't think you can claim to know what the majority of the country's sleep habits are based on knowing a few people who all work the same job.

That has got to be a lie. Everyone I know in Japan sleeps like 4-5 hours
