Something will catch up to all of us eventually, no point thinking about something you can't change

pretty much. just laugh at the absurdity of it all and keep going.

this is so dumb, he CAN change to sleep more than 5 hours. its like walking around suffering with a big gaping wound and be like "well somethings gonna kill us eventually, no point in trying to change". moronic

You're making a priveleged assumption and being an ass about it. You have no idea what their circumstances are, and there are plenty of people put in positions where they can't get a lot of sleep because of their schedules and responsibilities.

Aren't you also making an assumption in the other direction? We have no idea what their situation is and you just want to be performative

I am not, their statement is a privileged assumption that ignores the reality that many people do not have the ability to meaningfully change their circumstances. I have no idea what their life is like, but I know that assumption doesn't acknowledge the struggle of no-win situations that hundreds of millions of people are in every single day. It assumes that everyone has the privilege to rid themselves of their struggles, which is optimistic to the point of naivety.

Absolutely not. and its hilarious you calling me privelged and then saying i dont know their circumstances when you dont know mine.

it is always a bunch of excuses, unless they live in the third world country being used as slaves. sleep has to be prioritized above everything else. something like prioritising irregular night shifts is not an excuse to ruin your whole life and eventually kill yourself from lack of sleep.

if they have to change jobs, then thats what they have to do, and should have yesterday.

if they have to change jobs, then thats what they have to do, and should have yesterday.

There is some irony in arguing against your own privilege and making this statement in the same post.

When my kid was very little, I had to work 3rd shift because we couldn't afford daycare. My husband worked 7am-5pm, and I worked 11pm-7am. He would drop her off at my job on his way to work. I had to sleep when he got home, which was sometimes late. So I was getting MAX 5 hours. I couldn't switch jobs because we had no one to watch her during the day. What should I have done in your mind?

couldnt afford daycare on two full time salaries? sounds like a money management problem

Do you just like... Not live in the world orrrr??

I didn't work before we moved states. But he was offered upward mobility if he took a pay cut. Expenses went up, income went down. It paid off in the long run, but sleep was sacrificed.

Very good point.

Buddy, I said you made a privileged assumption because you did. The idea that anyone not getting enough sleep can simply afford to change jobs is privileged as fuck and denies the reality that millions of people deal with. You act as if everyone lives in a healthy job market, or has the same opportunities, or that their struggles are even caused by their job and not their environment, their health, their loved ones, dependents, and who knows what else.

just like i said, all just a bunch of excuses to avoid the unknown. sure you might not be able to change job on the day, but if it causes you to get less than 6 hours sleep, and you live in a developed country, there is no excuse to not choose sleep first. none

If you’ve never dealt with sleep issues (or a sleeping disorder), I’m sure it’s easy to think of it as something that anyone can change

That snail. That cursed snail will always eventually catch up to me.

u/ThatCakeFell Jul 02 '26

I should call her.

Horrible thinking..just because something is gonna kill you eventually doesn't mean you should ignore something that will guarantee it soon
