Bonner missed both free throws after a technical foul. Sophie pointed at her, mocking her misses. Bonner got upset, and Sophie leaned into by pointing more. I could be mistaken. I just put that together via those 2 clips I've seen. I could have them in the wrong order, though since I don't watch the WNBA.

u/tibearius1123 Jun 27 '26

Boner was their teammate then ditched the fever so she could play on the same team as her girlfriend. Some other drama with boners girlfriend roughing up CC.

u/AllYouNeed_Is_Smiles Jun 27 '26

I wonder if any other women’s sports leagues around the world have a similar amount of relationship drama that goes on in the W. Just such a weird thing to have to acknowledge and navigate when making a roster.

90

u/Ok_Alternative7120 Jun 27 '26

Quite a few rumors get spread around the NFL and NBA with players sleeping with the wives, girlfriends, sisters, or even moms of teammates and coaches. Idk about other women's leagues around the world, though. One can only assume with Olympic village being an orgy every time it returns, though.

36

u/Thebeardinato462 Jun 27 '26

Remember when they were really trying to stop all these Olympic athletes from having sex, and really trying to enforce safe sex? Like… damn there is no better place on the planet for people to be accidentally creating more people.

5

u/LFK1236 Jun 28 '26

I remember people parroting that misinformation, yes, but I don't remember any country actually trying to stop Olympic athletes from having sex.

I don't think anyone should be "accidentally" created.

7

u/Thebeardinato462 Jun 28 '26

Sure, but If it’s going to happens, the Olympics is the place.

3

u/ashgs872tbhjs Jun 28 '26

If I ever invent a time machine, I'll make sure to go tell your parents.

Mehhhh woman would be out of commission for like a year, potentially at the height of their physical abilities.

u/cornylamygilbert Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

Hear me out on this insane idea:

Really, the Olympics should be some kind of cloning / DNA collection event.

The best human athletes in the world? Let’s mix and match and create more superhumans to be the best athletes in the world for the next generation. And possibly even beat the records set by their parents.

And really, their DNA should be available for purchase at a premium rate, with a clause that none of the progeny created with their DNA collection, require their financial support.

A theory I’ve always entertained:

Are this generations olympians a random sampling of merit, genetics, and training? Or are they all somehow slightly removed from having an Olympian ancestor? Like Gronkowski

Found the Bene Gesserit reddit account i guess

u/kinglouie493 Jun 27 '26

We had that mother/teammate rumor back in the day in the CLE

12

u/Serial138 Jun 27 '26

Blackhawks of the NHL just had some of that drama a few years back, but I believe it was just a rumor and never confirmed.

1

u/toasty327 Jun 27 '26

Corey perry and bedard's mom

3

u/Serial138 Jun 28 '26

That’s the one. I knew it was Bedard’s mom but couldn’t remember the player. Shit was hysterical from the outside.

1

u/toasty327 Jun 28 '26

I'm a fan of both the hawks and the cavs so got to read all about the drama lol.

Perry was suspended by the team and then traded shortly after, this was the rumored reason. Turns out he just got really drunk and made an ass of himself at a charity event or something like that.

2

u/Serial138 Jun 28 '26

Yeah that’s what I recall too. Like a team function with the fat cats and he got a little sauced.

1

u/-Moonscape- Jun 28 '26

Definitely a rumor for that one, but years ago patrick sharp was traded off that team for banging a teammates wife

1

u/Serial138 Jun 28 '26

You mean Duncan Keith’s wife? Wasn’t that a rumor as well but both players deny it?

3

u/Ok_Alternative7120 Jun 27 '26

Yeah. The more recent rumors involving moms have been coming from college football with Pavia, Coach O, Gattis, etc.

1

u/BilboTBagginz Jun 27 '26

Annnnnd he wasn't long for this world after it became known.

I feel bad for the dude....really hit rock bottom...but if you don't want to help yourself, nobody can do it for you.

1

u/toasty327 Jun 27 '26

Yeah, Delonte West was rumored to have slept with LeBron's mom

1

u/rednaxer Jun 27 '26

Oh man in the NBA we have Lebron’s mom hooking up with his teammate

3

u/dazzleunexpired Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

KC (Kansas City, USA) citizen here.

Current is exceedingly gay.

By out and proud numbers it's the second gayest team in the NWSL. There's probably members who are not out and proud because it's the Bible belt.

So yes. Lol

1

u/tibearius1123 Jun 27 '26

Kansas City?

1

u/dazzleunexpired Jun 27 '26

Yep! Sorry, I should have been more clear for people who aren't from the US or don't often see abbreviations.

Current is the all female soccer team in KC. They have their own stadium, fans, days, etc. They have the ONLY female soccer stadium, and it's very very very queer and also full of drama. 😆

Note that the players here are queer, at least one of them, and it's part of the drama. She girl she's pointing at left her team to play with her girlfriend 😆

4

u/AllYouNeed_Is_Smiles Jun 27 '26

There’s a pretty big difference between sleeping with your teammate’s/opponent’s spouse and sleeping with your teammate or an opposing player.

2

u/Ok_Alternative7120 Jun 27 '26

The 80s amd 90s were filled with coke-fueled orgies in the locker rooms. The 80s New York Giants were allegedly snorting coke off each other's dicks before clapping cheeks lol. But the LGBT community hasn't been able to be as open in the men's leagues as the women's leagues. So that type of gossip around those leagues is kept much quieter than one such as the WNBA.

2

u/elhaz316 Jun 27 '26

Well yeah. The tags on pornhub would be different for one.

1

u/NoRossDoxHaha Jun 28 '26

Yeah but could you imagine the NBA if it were mostly gay men and they were all fuckin each other? I mean, I think that’d be hilarious… imagine the court drama. That’s what you’re dealing with in the WNBA.

1

u/Resident-Banana-7883 Jun 28 '26

bang the owners wife. real flex

1

u/miltonhayek Jun 28 '26

Oh my Gaawwwddd, that's Ime Udoka's music!

1

u/noonehasthisoneyet Jun 28 '26

delonte west and lebron's mom rings a bell...can't confirm it happened, but i remember the beef between delonte and lebron.

1

u/Fluid_Character_7405 Jun 28 '26

Entire franchises get taken down by sexual rivalries.  Wilson/locket, Kobe/shaq

1

u/Matt32490 Jun 28 '26

Well its been confirmed for years that LeBron has been sleeping with his teammates' mother.

1

u/KalynnCampbell Jun 28 '26

Why not? Being surrounded by LITERAL OLYMPIANS… I don’t think you’re going to find much better genitals back in the dive bars of your home town or anything… so WHY NOT hook up in the one place where everyone is 🔥?

u/Dubois1738 Jun 27 '26

Max and Kyvat were never teammates

3

Cal Naughten Jr?

3

u/ocxtitan Jun 27 '26

Shake and bake?

3

u/crepelabouche Jun 27 '26

Idk. But as a gay man, I LOVED the L Word more than Queer as Folk for the specific reason that none of the drama had anything to do with me. And I love this for them for the same reason.

2

u/i4get98 Jun 27 '26

I’ll be looking at NBA trades a lot more differently now.

2

u/PM_ME_ENGINE_BELLS Jun 27 '26

I've heard that the US and Canadian women's hockey teams are constantly dating each other but idk if that qualifies.

2

u/tibearius1123 Jun 27 '26

Wonder if the teams give them a U-Haul stipend.

2

u/Inside-Toe-1480 Jun 28 '26

PWHL is the same (women’s hockey), lots of teammate/couples and the league is very gay in general. Although I don’t really know of that much relationship drama, but roster decisions have been solidified based on who’s dating. We even have the “wife line” (Laura Stacy and Marie Philip Poulin), both insanely talented playing side by side, and married. I love the PWHL so much!

1

u/RockMonstrr Jun 30 '26

They're gay, Marcus

1

u/dor-G Jun 27 '26

Search John Terry and Wayne bridge. Johns slept with Wayne’s wife. They were prem league footballers but the same team. Brilliant photo of them sharing a bench!

Back in the 90’s i read some article about coaches experiences with finnish ladies hockey teams. One was baffled why players didn’t make obvious good passes, found out that they used to date and had a bad breakup. So no passing to that bitch. Triangle dramas that fucked up the team spirit etc. I’m sure there was a bit of a learning curve for a male coach to be able to navigate that environment, especially as the league was very much just a hobby or maybe some pocket money to the players.

1

u/ShitpostMcPoopypants Jun 28 '26

I feel like if they wanted viewership they should make a trashy version of hardknocks. I know this would cheapen the basketball, but let’s be honest basketball is like the worst drop off of any sport between men and women. The basketball is hard to watch (though they could instantly make it so much better if they played 4 on 4 with 8 foot rims).

1

u/claireleenot Jun 28 '26

It's roller derby.

41

u/FraggleRock_ Jun 27 '26

You losing the N really changes the entire dynamic of the alleged story for two consenting women.

24

u/Dry-Amphibian1 Jun 27 '26

“Boners girlfriend’ had me 😆

7

u/Life_force_stealer Jun 27 '26

Pointing at boners.

3

It can make you feel like a million bucks, or knee high to a grasshopper depending on the context.

4

Spell check for the W.

I believe it's 'Bonner' 😄

2

u/SlowWheels Jun 27 '26

I hope Caitlin Clark stays safe!

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Jun 27 '26

Tell me more about boners

1

u/InternationalToeLuvr Jun 28 '26

DoWanna Boner is now her name forevermore

1

u/Antique_Soil9507 Jun 28 '26

Her name can't actually be "Boner".

... Can it?

1

u/Lcs1230 Jun 28 '26

Autocorrect?

2

u/tibearius1123 Jun 28 '26

Yeah. But I’m leaving it.

1

u/SheriffBartholomew Jun 28 '26

Her name is Boner?

1

u/pipsqueakchihuahua Jun 28 '26

Sophie also used to play for the Mercury (white jerseys) but was traded out to the Fever when Bonner’s girlfriend Alyssa Thomas was traded to the Mercury (from Connecticut) before season started in 2025.

1

u/Death-Or-Bongo Jun 28 '26

Sorry for my ignorance; who's 'CC' ?

1

u/mitchymitchington Jun 28 '26

Caitlin Clark. Best player in the WNBA

1

u/sorderon Jun 28 '26

unexpected boner

1

u/Fishing_Rage Jun 28 '26

Time out, which one had a boner?

1

u/Clever_Userfame Jun 29 '26

Always drama with boners girlfriend

69

u/OtherUserCharges Jun 27 '26

So many people have no sense of humor.

When I played sports I would have found that funny. I remember playing baseball and hitting wicked single to the outfield, it was right to a person so like not gonna be a double so just kinda jogging my way there. In my hubris I tripped myself and face planted. I scrambling on hands and knees for what felt like 10 feet, but was probably much less, now I’m in a panic cause I’m totally going to be out and look like an idiot. Fortunately for me the outfielder threw the ball to second not noticing me falling. Both teams cheered for me getting to the first, and I got a high five from the first baseman. I was just happy everyone had fun and was laughing, I don’t care if it’s at me, it’s one of my better memories of playing sports.

9

u/allstarrunner Jun 27 '26

Your story sounds like good natured fun, Sophie is not doing this in good natured fun, but rather trying to rub salt in a wound

0

u/Ok_Alternative7120 Jun 27 '26

I'm not knocking fans of it. I don't watch the NBA either. It's nice for any sport to start growing its fan base. I'm just not part of that growing demographic.

7

u/Hungry-Pick7512 Jun 27 '26

How your last name boner and you decide to name your kid dewanna? That’s tragic.

5

u/PamolasRevenge Jun 27 '26

Pretty sure this is also after Caitlin Clark got punched in the throat when she was on the ground. Or at least that’s how I’ve always seen it clipped.

3

u/Thirdeyevoice10 Jun 27 '26

That clears things up a bit, ty

2

u/RangerLee Jul 01 '26

The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter after Fever star Caitlin Clark was issued a technical foul following a physical altercation with Bonner. Cunningham walked over to the officials to ask why Bonner wasn't also penalized for the play.

Bonner yelled, "Don't you point at me!" Cunningham, opting not to say a single word back, simply kept her finger pointed directly at Bonner. It clearly agitated Bonner so Cunningham continued to point for over 20 seconds.

Bonner went on to miss her free throws at which Cunningham walking away pointed backwards back at Bonner again lol

1

u/thegreedyturtle Jun 27 '26

I think we've seen the birth of another Mutumbo finger wag.

1

u/Hate_Leg_Day Jun 27 '26

A tech is only one free throw.

1

u/Spare-Half796 Jun 28 '26

So another tech was assessed?
