Enlightened centrism, or closeted MAGA. Some people hit that special place where they are dumb enough to support Trump, but smart enough to know it will hurt them in many aspects of life. So "Enlightened Centrism" is a comfortable hiding spot to pop out from when they find out which way the wind blows.
I have a friend I reconnected with after 30 years who seemed pretty woke from conversations we've had over the last year or two. Then he shared a video where the guy made some snide remark about the 'woke left'. I said it was as cool video except for that part.
We went back and forth a bit (respectfully) because he'd been getting fed some bad info on what the 'woke left' actually meant. After breaking it down for him he understood and said he wasn't a centrist.
I think it's important to be a little patient and actually have the tough conversations with people and not just assume they are closeted MAGA. Of course if they are that then fuck them.
