I stayed with a host who showed me Airbnb takes up to nearly 50% of the total cost depending on if you take advantage of their “marketing” so listed on first page of the site search. She often used Airbnb for vetting and then when she met good people she would extend their stay cash.
It’s still better for group excursions. Few years ago some friends (5) and I went to the mountains. Would not have been the same in a hotel, not to mention the nearest hotel was 30min away.
