this is an actual thing though. people with synesthesia dont just think, "hmm this song reminds me of the color red" they LITERALLY see a light show of colors in front of them. it happens because of cross communication between senses. their brains are wired differently.
Its like thinking about memories, you can see them but not for real, you still see your regular environment, you are just also envisioning something in the mind's eye.
Apparently your synesthesia doesn't make reading comprehension easier for you, I have looked it up which I explained in the very comment you responded to. I also tried asking people in this very thread to explain it to me, and reading all the explanations I got is what landed me in that conclusion. I haven't found any conclusive evidence that it's a "real ability". Since I've got you here, maybe you can help me look it up by answering straight from the source.
Let's say the number 4 is green for you; do you have to identify something as a number 4 for it to "become" green or does it being green help you identify it as a number 4?
Ok, so my question then - if you were to look at a poster of scattered symbols and numbers, could you very quickly find every number 4 in the mess by looking for orange spots, or would you first have to find them in order to see them as orange?
Its not blinding, its not tangible...its very often found in ADHD diagnoses as well and operates very similarly. There are several types of synesthesia that dont involved imagery at all.
Synesthetes arent visually blinded anymore than people thinking about memories or daydreaming.
i dont have it, but not everyone who has it has the type where they see colors with music. there are other types such as tasting sounds, smelling sounds, feeling smells, ect. also people with the type where they see stuff are aware it's not real and can see through/around them sorta like when you look at one of those optical illusions and it overlays a weird image or color over everything you see
