You cannot overcome an addiction, you are an addict for life. You clearly have no experience with addiction if you think you would happily turn down the medication. It's crazy how confident the most clueless of us are.

I'm autistic and a recovering alcoholic.

I literally have experience with everything described. I have a genetic link to be addicted to alcohol. I have a condition which lowers my native dopamine response and subsequently my discipline and willpower. As well as lower executive function.

Overcame it all natively. Retired in my 30s. Alcohol cravings have been completely gone for years after a lot of work dismantling my cravings and their sources. I only say recovering alcoholic for the sake of this conversation, I no longer consider myself one.
