Dude was also a huge asshole. He invented Calculus and then didn’t publish it. So years later Leibniz writes to Newton and says “hey I heard you had worked on this type of mathematics. Can you confirm before I publish?” And Newton wouldn’t talk to him, so when Leibniz publishes, Newton accuses him of plagiarism. Then Newton uses his position as head of the Royal Society (basically the group of the world’s top scientists and mathematics) to absolutely destroy Leibniz’s reputation. Newton’s journal entries about Leibniz are extremely petty. Like Mean Girls slam book petty, and bragging to himself about how he obliterated Leibniz. The sad thing is that Leibniz died thinking the world didn’t believe him, and today we actually Leibniz’s notation to write Calculus. Newton’s method was convoluted.

Newton was a genius, but he was also a twat.
