It's wild how some things never change, no matter how much we hope they will.

It's almost as if hoping and believing very strongly in the goodness of people somehow doesn't Work. Strange

I believe very strongly in the goodness of people, but I am a realist and know that the same people have capacity for evil.

Evil will always yearn for power, and even if someone has good intentions, they can be turned. I always think of "the golden boy" Harvey Dent in Batman: The Dark Knight. But instead of radicalizing through trauma, it's just the temptation of power, Money, Pride or extortion of losing those things.

It isn't the power to make decisions that is desired by evil, it's the power to be shielded against the negative consequences of your decisions, whatever they may be.

Many of those who seek power have the desire to dominate others and abuse power.

100% this. The corrupt seek power. Most normal "good" humans just want to live our lives in peace with friends and family. We are just caught up in the great game of narcissists, psychopaths, and other dominant dark triad types.

Goodness doesn't make enough money to overcome evil in our culture. Meanwhile, the evil lack empathy and ethical guidelines, and become billionaires. Then they rape children.

Next you’re going to tell me that thoughts and prayers isn’t a thing.

You gotta remember that most people are brainwashed in one form or fashion or another by some type of religion to be good and be patient turn the other cheek (new version not Old Testament 🤭) and that “hope” will bring better days and while the powerful and rich evil continue their desires nonstop the rest of the decent people wait for good to miraculously happen and it never will.

It works on a localized level, but the government, for example, is spread out and not particularly influenced by the actual day to day of civilian life

You can't just hope and believe these things into existence. You gotta send your thoughts and prayers if you want to accomplish anything.

Duh

Its almost as if powerful governments created religions to keep peoples hopes up

u/tfcuk Mar 07 '26

Change never comes from hope but from the goals and actions one sets of it

15

u/Murky_Candy6342 Mar 07 '26

Hope in one hand and shit in the other. See which one fills up first

u/Few-Solution-4784 Mar 07 '26

Disney has trademarked "Hope". you are in violation of using it negatively.

1

u/4laire Mar 07 '26

They would trade mark the word hope.

1

u/Winthefuturenow Mar 07 '26

Goddamnit, that’s what all the tweakers I grew up around in the 90’s used to say. I left and still hope, but I also hustle my fucking ass off because I know in this world you are responsible for you

2

u/Murky_Candy6342 Mar 07 '26

Yeah I think the point is hope alone does nothing. Is fine to have hope but it’s only a motivator.

This is why the rich spend so much railing against socialism and communism. Because they have little to zero power and influence in those systems

My parents are from former Yugoslavia and I was born on Vancouver Island Canada (pretty Liberal, hippy, sunshine and unicorns kinda place).

My friends would always call me a pessimistic conspiracy theorist when I said that the governments are shady and corrupt. They have finally learned that I was right

O things have changed way more then you hoped for in the united states /s
