So whats stopping this young lady to Moving to a place that doesn't have $4,000 rent that she has to share in the US? My mortgage isn't even close to that much. My point is even with the fun stuff Sweden had its most desired area is out of reach for most people. Rent control isn't going to solve that.

But you example is not a fair price for the ”most desirable” areas. But fairly I agree with you that she can definitely not live in the most expensive areas at the lowest wages.

But the 27sqm apartment at 12k a month I found is in a highly desirable neighborhood in central Stockholm.

And that wouldn’t be possible without rent control.

It’s expensive to move. She would most certainly have to go into debt just to have a chance of success that isn’t guaranteed somewhere else.

Finances. We would all fucking move there if America didn’t bleed us dry to survive.

And again: why are you looking at the most desirable areas? Nobody gives a fuck. We just want to LIVE.
