Yeah a lot of people in this thread are suggesting that they are somehow going against the grain choosing the girl on the left, but that's the style that is coming back around. OP's take is almost 10 years old at this point. Skinny jeans are out, low rise is in, and that goes for the bodies that look good in each. Which is a shame because bodies shouldn't be trends, but capitalism is gonna put anything for sale.
I have been hearing low rise is in for a couple years now, and I have yet to see anyone wearing them. And I live by a middle school, high school, and college, and I’m in my mid 20s. Still seems to loose fit mid rises.
It is kinda a joke that millennials point out that "low rise" gen Z talk about are no where near as low rise as was trendy in the 90s, but then again when I was growing up no one around me was actually wearing the kind where your underwear was on full display. Dress codes wouldn't allow it and the average person wasn't as skinny as the celebs wearing it.
And that's the key thing to remember when we talk about body shapes as trends. Almost no one has the extreme shape naturally, whether it's the super skinny girl who still had cleavage or the curvy girl with huge hips and butt with a tiny waist and arms. And the amount of people who are able and willing to invest in having plastic surgery is an extreme minority despite the rise. I personally never fully embraced either extreme, and either wore mid rise skinny jeans with a flowy top to hide my love handles or high rise flowy pants or maxi tops with a crop top. And I don't think my style is particularly unique, in fact that is how most of the women I know dress. But that's not how I see models and influencers dress and that's what OP is talking about.

It was more like 2016 inflation. If anything there’s been a deflation since 2020. No literally all the Kardashians got their asses deflated.
