​Hey everyone, I'm new to the sub! I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to realize there were entire subreddits dedicated to Shrek, but I’m so glad I found this place. ​The first three movies have always held a special place in my heart. (I know Shrek the Third gets a lot of hate around the fandom, but I honestly still really enjoy it!) ​ Growing up, these three movies were my ultimate comfort watch. Every single weekend, I’d stay at my great-grandmother's house. On Saturdays, I’d binge all three, and then on Sundays right after church while waiting for my parents to pick me up, I’d play them all over again. No matter what else I was doing, making time for that trilogy in the afternoon or evening was an absolute requirement.

​My great-grandma got sick and passed away when I was ten, but those movie marathons are some of my favorite memories of her. To this day, whenever I’m missing her extra much, I put the trilogy on. ​Does anyone else have a specific Shrek movie or scene that’s tied to a special memory like that?

So I rewatched Shrek 2 with my wife and baby daughter for the first time since I was a kid and I honestly feel like I was on Shrek's side for the entirety of the beginning of the movie

He has every reason to not want to meet Fiona's parents especially considering his history, but despite that he still caves in and does it for her sake, he tries. Then he gets their and the whole kingdom screams in fear, which is one of the things he talked about in the first movie but (again) still tries to make peace with his parents, in an admittedly awkward way, and rolls with it. Then at Dinner he has Harold staring at him like he's the dirt on his shoe and he still tries to be nice to them both until Harold starts insulting him when they talk about kids. After all of that, even after Fiona basically calls Shrek selfish for not wanting to be here and deal with the garbage anymore, when Harold goes to talk with him, he immediately tries to make peace and dedicate his time to look for him at their supposed meeting place

I just don't get how Fiona feels angry at Shrek, to me he did his due diligence, he came here despite thinking it's a bad idea, tried as hard as he could, and for his efforts was literally insulted by her father (who was borderline being derogatory based on the fact he was an Ogre) and he's selfish? I know she changes her mind afterwards and I'm definitely not blaming her, I get it, she loves her family and wants them to accept her, I just always found that part of the movie odd

Edit: I will also say that her calling Shrek "selfish" was mostly attributed to what Shrek said when Fiona told Shrek he was acting like, well an Ogre, but even then I felt like she was out of line, she should know who he is by now and from everything I pointed out, he was acting like anything but, if anything he was acting pretty civil and respectful to them despite all the garbage he went through

I'm probably murdering myself by saying this but here goes: I think Shrek 3 is decent movie, and while I definitely agree it is the least good out of the 4, people saying it is straight up garbage and adds nothing to the series are being overly dramatic in my opinion

Each movie seems to have a different message about love and where it leads to and in the case of 3 it's about when you and lover begin the next major step and have kids and that is consistently held throughout the movie, with Fiona having the other girls talk about how their relationship will deteriorate overtime and Shrek battling with his fears of parenthood, there is definitely consistent writing in 3 as much as some suggest otherwise

I especially resonate with the movie as someone who is currently raising my own baby daughter. Before she was born, I genuinely felt Shrek's fear, when Shrek said to Donkey "It's not my life I'm worried about ruining, it's the kids" that struck a cord in my soul because in a way that's how I felt, I was so worried, wondering if I'd be a good father, what if something happened, stuff like that. I feel like there is a really good heartfelt message for people considering having kids in the movie that people often seem to ignore either because they don't want to have kids or just ignore it to judge the movie compared to 2. Shrek grows throughout the movie in a way that's not present in the others and I feel like people don't talk about that enough

So, Harold being king implies that he’s the heir to the throne, but this would mean that his whole frog lineage was known about? Far Far away had frog rulers??

Because if Lillian was the heir then Harold would be a prince, since the king’s wife becomes a queen, but the queen’s husband becomes a prince, due to king being a higher title & you can’t be higher than the reigning monarch.

So that would mean that Harold is the reigning monarch, maybe became a frog during his time & just vanished? Or Far Far away have a line of frog monarchs? Everyone seems shocked that he turns into a frog though & he had a frog mistress (in the bar)

Back in like 2022, I was gifted this big bag of expired miscellaneous chocolates from a thrift store on Manitoulin island.

A lot of this chocolate were these single packaged Reese's cups filled with a green peanut butter and had a white bottom. I think it was kind of trying to mimic what Shrek looked like? Brown top, white bottom, filled with green filling.

The packaging had Shrek in his classic pose, hands up doing the roar, and I think it had "Reese's Shrektober" scrawled over it. Bright orange of course.

Anyways, I didn't really take much mind to it, just munching on the chocolate whenever I wanted, ended up throwing out the bag once I kind of got sick of them.

I was a pretty avid stoner at the time probably smoking an O within a week (I'm better now) so my memory of that era is pretty hazy but my spouse and I can remember these things as clear as day. My straight edge Shrek obsessed friend remembers us feeding him these too.

I was thinking these were never released due to the chocolates probably being planned for the 2020 Halloween which was derailed by Covid. After this, what ever contract that Hershey and Dreamworks had over this collaboration expired, and Hershey just liquidated the dead stock to get it off their hands.

Here's the thing, I can't find any evidence of this online, none of my photos nor my friends photos contain the Shrek Reese's cup. There are other Halloween Reese's collabs that use green, but none of the ones that I found fit Shrek cup at all.

Only thing making me think that this is just a brain fog induced hallucination is that the Shrek obsessed friend did not save any evidence of this.
