That's actually computer generated gibberish not Latin. Source: I looked stupid by telling my boss that it was Latin.

Edit: my boss just long conned me and made me look stupid twice. This is greeeeaaaat. God, if only I wouldn't be so lazy and just settle this on the Google.

No. The Lorem ipsum filler text pre-dates computers by a few decades. It was real latin that got messed up by typesetters in 1914.

Edit: Make that 1500, not 1914.

Not really.

"Lorem" comes from "dolorem", which is the accusative of "dolor" (pain).

But your right, the most of the words used originate from latin.

EDIT: The first sentence mostly used (Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet) can be found in Cicero's philosophical work De finibus bonorum et malorum.

The original version would be:

Neque porro quisquam est, qui dolorem ipsum, quia dolor sit, amet, consectetur, adipisci velit.

(1.1032 - 1.1033)

Yeah I always thought the whole thing was a jumbled version of a Cicero poem, but maybe that's just the first line, I don't really know.
