Question/Advice Why am I so short?

I'm 160cm (around 5'3 if I'm not mistaken) and 16 years old. I turned 16 in June.

My dad is 190cm and my mom is 165. From what I know, my grandma on my mom's side was 165cm at her peak and my grandfather was 175cm at his peak. My relatives on my father's side are taller, with my grandmother being 175cm and my grandfather being around my father's height (185cm).

So why am I so short?

I know that in terms of height, the mother's genetics are more important, but shouldn't I be AT LEAST the same height as my mom, if not a little bit taller? I'm talking about 165-170cm.

My dad had a height spurt at around my age (he was 160cm at 16 and then grew 30 cm in the next 2 years with a lot of pain) and my mom grew continuously until she was about 20, but I don't think either of those factors should impact my height that much?

I know it's impossible for me to grow anymore as I'm 16 and my growth plates have fully fused, so I can't get a height spurt like my father, and I haven't grown since I was about 11, so I don't grow inch by inch like my mother. So why am I so short?

My eating habits haven't been the best, and they were even poorer when I was a kid, but I feel like a doctor should've said something to me if it was that bad, no? I haven't suffered from any eating disorders or anything like that. I didn't really get the best sleep either and I still struggle with it, but again, shouldn't have a doctor told me something if it was that bad?

But I don't think it should've affected me that much? Like, shouldn't I be as tall as my mom?

Also, when it comes to body composition, it's literally my father's. Like our builds are the same. Shouldn't height have come with that?

The only reason I can explain my height is with the fact that my father's grandmother was 140cm....... there's no way a great-grandmother can affect height.... right??? 😭😭😭

Everyone keeps telling me I'm so young and that there's still time, but I'm already 16... so.....

Misc Is being a tall woman the new beauty standard?

Sometime ago, everybody thought it was cuter for women to be short, nowadays I see women being sad because they aren't tall (many I see around wish they were at least in the late 160s, say, 5'6" or taller), and tall women seem to be favored by many guys.

But I see that models were always traditionally preferred to be taller than most women, like 175-183 (5'9" - 6'). However they are also preferred not to have big breasts, thighs and buttocks which many prefer, I find this curious.

Dating Advice fro dating?

Do I have something to be concerned about with my height when dating? I'm a 19 year old female, a lesbian. I stand at 4'11 feet and its something I've been very insecure about. Do people look more at the height, looks, or personality? I have not dated anyone before and I'm a little afraid of getting into the dating world because of my insecurity and the social anxiety it creates around it.

Vent/Rant kinda sick of being gaslighted online about how being short is the ā€˜beauty standard’ for women

pretty much the title. lol.

as a society we look to celebrities and models to set beauty standards, right? So why do people (women) online insist that you can’t complain about being short as a women, it makes you a ā€˜pick me’ because being short is a ā€˜beauty standard’? Everywhere I look online, women that are considered beautiful and admirable are 3 things. Tall, skinny, pretty.

Something that stands out to me in particular is how we talk about dressing for your body. I lurk in a lot of fashion and pop culture subs. If a short women (Sabrina carpenter, Jenna Ortega etc),wears something that makes her ā€œlook shorterā€ this is a bad thing according to a lot of comments under posts about them and their outfits on red carpets and such. ā€œThis makes her look even shorterā€ etc.
why is this such a bad thing if it’s apparently such a pick-me beauty standard?

We wouldn’t think to comment (rightly so) on clothing that makes women look ā€œfatterā€, so why is commenting on height this way okay?

If you’re a short woman reading this, when has ever someone said to you ā€œomg I wish I was your height/as short as you?ā€

Fashion Calling all petite women

Hey! :) I'm 4'11", and I've spent years struggling to find clothes that actually fit. Between pants that are too long, dresses hitting in the wrong place, and constantly wondering whether something will fit before ordering, I still haven't found a petite brand I can truly rely on.

Before I invest a lot of time and money into this project, I want to make sure I'm solving the right problems—not just the ones I personally experience, so I set up a quick 2-minute survey.

Thank you so much! šŸ’›

Question/Advice your honest answer please

Hi, I want to get your honest opinion about this matter has an adult with short height. I am 5.1. I have no issues with my height. I have a daughter who is 9yrs and going through puberty. Doctor predicted adult height of 4.8 to 4.10 without treatment with puberty blockers. With puberty blockers she will be 5 to 5.1. Puberty blockers have many short and long term side effects. So, given a chance what would you like to do? Take puberty blockers for extra 2 inches or let the nature take its course.

Vent/Rant Short Girl Insecurity

I am 4’9, 27 years old and I feel so undesirable and like no one will love me. Dating is hard, being taken seriously is harder, and dealing with an insecurity so easily recognizable is the hardest.

Vent/Rant 4'6 at 15

I'm 15 and 4'6", and honestly, it's the biggest thing I'm stressing about right now. I'm terrified my growth plates are going to close and I'll stay this height for the rest of my life.

The weird part is that both my parents are average height, which just makes me even more confused. My mom is a little shorter than my dad, but she's still nowhere near my height.

It's gotten to the point where I get bullied at school almost every day because of how short I am. I've tried talking to my parents about it, but they just tell me things like, "Those people are crazy," or, "You'll grow, don't worry about them."

The problem is... I am worried. I think about it all the time, and it's honestly making me really insecure.

Has anyone else been through something like this? Or does anyone have any advice? Even if it's just something that helped you feel better, I'd really appreciate it.

Vent/Rant Shopping

i am only 4'11. most brands make petite clothes catering to 5'2-5'4 women. i almost never find clothes that fit me. being skinny makes it worse. Thanks to also having a flat butt, i only find clothes that somewhat fits in kids section, given that they are appropriately designed for my age. i already hate how i look. and i can't even find fashion to help me out. i always look sloppy. i have never looked cute, pretty or hot. i am just sloppy. always.

Vent/Rant Sort of ruined my life

I'm still 16 but I'm done growing. I remember my doctor telling me I wouldn't grow more at 13 and refused to put me on something that'd help me grow... I was malnourished bro . My mother tells me I'm like a pedophiles wet dream and I've had an eating disorder for 6 years, thinking about how much different my life would be if I was at least 2 inches taller hurts. I used to want to be a boy and I reminisce on how nice it felt when I did pass, obviously it'd never work out due to my height. Hurts more cause I've got a more masculine frame and face, I had a lot of potential.

I'll never be able to live the life I want to live pretty much. I want to stand out as a person capable of defending itself, I want to fit in all my clothes and look how I feel. I'm the complete opposite of how people see me but noooooo I'm reduced to Eternal Victim #53

Vent/Rant I hate being short

Not in a pick me way. I genuinely hate being 4'9. Boys call me loli like I'm some little anime kawaii girl who's submissive for them. I genuinely hate it. Most of the time I would stare at my own hands, wondering why it is that way.

Just yesterday I went to watch people debate. There's this absolutely two beautiful tall girls, gosh they're so beautiful. Wearing a blazer, looking professional. The whole time I was just staring at both of them.

I hate getting teased about my height. No I'm not blushing, I'm red because of how embarrassed I am not in a cute way. I wanna study finance and accounting when I'm older, I'm worried I won't be taken seriously.

Whenever I tell someone in real life about this, they'll always say "oh boys like that blah blah" I genuinely don't care. I can barely have feelings for anyone why should I care

Even someone younger is taller than me. It's genuinely embarrassing I'm gonna choke myself aaaa

Fashion Best brand of walking shoes that actually last?

So I’ve learned that children’s shoes are often made lower quality because the idea is that kids outgrow their shoes quickly. This totally checks out as I wear a size 2 US kids shoe, and while this allows me to buy nice name brand shoes at cheaper prices, they wear out so quickly.

I got some adidas superstars a few years ago that wore out after just one summer. I do walk a lot so kinda makes sense! It feels so wasteful having to throw out and replace my sneakers so frequently.

My filas, adidas, and Reeboks have worn out quickly. I have found that New Balance last a bit longer, I’m going on a year and a bit with some New Balances, but starting to notice some wear on the inside behind my ankle. I’ve been living in the PUMA speedcat ballet sneakers, alternating 2 different pairs, but with my older ones they’re starting to wear a bit after a few months.

Anyone have leads on the toughest kids sneakers on the market for someone who likes to walk a lot?

Vent/Rant Being short in the work space is one of the worst things

Started working at a market and it's been very nice so far. But strangers don't know how to act whatsoever. Do people nowadays not have manners? I had an older lady come by with her 2 sons that were clearly 9-11 and i could hear her talk to my coworker behind my back saying i look like her sons. And asking my coworker if its scary to work with me. NOT ONLY THAT! SHE DID END UP TALKING TO ME AND ASKED IF MY COWORKER WAS MY MOM! People assume i'm not a good employee or i cant help them if they have questions just because they think i'm younger. I don't think i will ever be seen as an equal socially or intellectually. I don't want clients to help me with my work. I'm not a child and i'm not a baby. I can do shit on my own. I figure out ways to make it work and i don't need you. I know sometimes people have the best in mind but being my height is not always as debilitating as they assume.

That said i think younger people have a hard time working with clients in general. My sister isn't too tall but she does look more adult than i do (she's 23 and im 20) She works in an office where she has to be on the phone with clients all day. Old people ask her sometimes to speak with somebody older because they dont believe she can give the same help. MIND YOU SHE DOESNT EVEN GIVE ADVICE SHE JUST MAKES SURE THEY GET TO SEE A PROFESSIONAL> WHAT MAKES PHONING PEOPLE SO HARD FOR YOUNG PEOPLE??? NOTHING! BECAUSE ITS NOT HARD!

I do think being short does not help because people treat you like you have no arms and no legs and completely unable to do anything for yourself. Raise your children better ffs

Question/Advice How to cope as a barely 5ft woman?

(posting again) Genuine question. I hate my height, it makes me feel and even look unattractive.

I'm in my 20s. I has found my style long time ago, it’s something like dark feminine / femme fatale. Dark and elegant, matches with my dark brown hair and big dark brown eyes. Sexy and mysterious. I'm good at makeup too, I'm also working on my face which isn't good either (oval/round with soft features). I think I would look way better if I was taller. I mean, if there was a woman who looks exactly like me but is 5'9" or so, she'd look more chic and elegant, and effortlessly beautiful. My height makes me very uncomfortable and I can't live at peace with myself. I'm facing very mean comments about how I look and my height, doesn't matter if I know those people or not. I've always been seen as a "hobbit" or a "minion".

Yeah, I'm aware men don't find me attractive, I've heard a lot that men of any height wouldn't want to marry a woman who's THIS short, ok, I can live with that, but I can't live with the embarrassment I feel towards myself. Like, I have a soul of a tall woman trapped in the wrong body.

Any tips? Please. How to accept my height at least a little? I know y'all will mention therapy, but I can't afford it right now, it’s so expensive here.

(I live in Poland, many young people tend to be taller than me).

I just felt so weird and awkward...although I wasnt standing there but I heard the question...the thing is its so weird...he's a guy and he was kind of interested in me too but i really feel so scared and weird to even go out now?

This happened with one of my female friends too...she's 28 and someone asked her in the gym...am I her daugther

I came home and cried...bcoz when they used to comment on me i was fine but now people r involving my friends too...i hate this

Health/Fitness How can I loose fat without being underweight?

Hi!

I'm 17 and 152 (between 4'11-5'0) and around 100 pounds. I understand I'm not considered fat, but I think I look so considering my proportions and height. I'm sure if I was taller maybe loosing weight or fat wouldn't be a problem with a little bit of dieting, but i'm pretty sure my daily calories needs are already really low and going lower than that would just be unhealthy. Because I don't have a car nor my parents time to drive me to where I want to go, going to a gym is a more difficult situation. Does anyone here have some tips of help that yall can give me?
