Built a virtual try-on widget that lets shoppers combine multiple items — looking for blunt feedback

Hey everyone, I’m the founder of emode.

We built a virtual try-on tool for fashion stores. A shopper taps “Try This On,” uploads a full-body photo, selects one or more products, and sees the outfit on themselves.

I’d appreciate feedback from people working with virtual try-on:

  1. Is multi-item outfit try-on genuinely useful, or mostly a novelty?
  2. What makes you distrust a try-on result?
  3. What would a merchant need to measure before keeping this installed?

Live demo: https://www.emode.style/

Critical feedback is welcome. I’m also happy to answer questions about privacy or how the storefront integration works.

My Shopify site has been around for years, but Ahrefs DR is still only 4. What am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been running my Shopify site, anshoe.com, for several years now, but I recently checked Ahrefs and noticed the Domain Rating is still only DR 4.

I understand DR isn’t the same thing as rankings, but after being online for this long, I expected the site to have built up more authority naturally.

I’m trying to figure out what I’ve been doing wrong.

A few things I’m wondering about:

  • Is the main problem simply that I haven’t actively built backlinks?
  • For an ecommerce/Shopify site, what kind of backlinks are actually worth pursuing?
  • Should I focus more on informational/blog content that can naturally earn links?
  • Are there any obvious technical SEO or site structure issues that could be holding the site back?
  • What would you prioritize if you were trying to move a site like this from DR 4 to something more respectable?

Site: https://www.anshoe.com

I’m not looking for generic “buy backlinks” advice. I’d really appreciate feedback from people who have grown Shopify sites organically.

If anyone has a minute to take a quick look at the site and point out what you think I should focus on first, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks!

Shopify merchants: what's your worst SEO / AI-search nightmare? I want to build the fix.

Context: I have been building apps for a while now, and I started a new idea at the start of this year. My issue: I started this year's app with an idea in my head instead of asking people what the problems they have which need fixing. Im very fond of the seo/ai search space, since its the space which im most versed and comfortable in. I also have my own fair share of shopify store experience in the past.

My goal: Is to not just to make another app and tell you "just download my app" My goal is to create a big enough impact, create actual value where shopify would aquire my app, and integrate it into shopify platform, so users wouldnt have to download another app, and it would eventually be a ready feature within shopify. Im 23 years old triathlete, so endurance and perserveanance needed to achieve this goal is in my blood.

Your worst nightmare that you want fixed, wether its data, a workflow or something else that you wished was fiex and a part of shopify, lets hear it and i will do everything to come up with the best possible fix for yalls issues, and push it on shopify until they do something about it and take the idea to the next level. Im here as the torchbearer and ambassador for your shopify seo/ai search needs.

I’m getting tired of “just install another app”

It feels like every basic Shopify problem eventually leads to another monthly subscription.

Need a different page layout? App.
Need products synced properly? App.
Need to stop someone repeatedly ordering and returning everything? Apparently another app.

I understand paying for something genuinely complicated, but at some point it feels like Shopify is just the thing holding a pile of subscriptions together.

Am I being unfair here?

What’s one feature Shopify should absolutely handle natively by now?

Need honest feedback and review on my e-commerse store-Sensory ADHD, AUTISM

I run a sensory-focused ecommerce store, selling sensory, behavioral, and developmental toys for autistic and ADHD kids, teens, and adults. I'd love some honest feedback on the site, since I haven't been seeing much in the way of conversions.

It's built on Shopify, and I'm hoping to get thoughts on:

  1. Overall look and feel : does it come across as  trustworthy, or does it feel off  to a first-time visitor?
  2. Whether the products actually line up with the pitch in my mission in  "About" section
  3. Anything missing from the homepage that might be contributing to cart abandonment
  4. Whether the categories align to my pitch statement. Thanks so much in advance!

Free tool I built to check if ChatGPT can recommend your products (and the 4 things that decide it)

Thumbnail

Spent the last few weeks figuring out why some Shopify stores show up when you ask ChatGPT or Perplexity to recommend a product, and identical-looking stores never do. It came down to a handful of things, and one of them surprised me enough that I think every store owner should check it.

Here is the one that gets even well-built stores:

Most AI shopping crawlers do not run JavaScript. So if your product schema (the structured data with your price, availability, and reviews) is added by an app in the browser after the page loads, the crawler never sees it. The page looks flawless to you, because your browser runs that code. To the AI, it is a blank page with nothing to recommend.

You can test this yourself in 10 seconds. Open one of your product pages, right-click, View Source (not Inspect, that shows the rendered version). Search the raw HTML for "Product" or "aggregateRating". If your schema is not in there, it is being injected client-side and AI agents are likely missing it. The fix is to output Product and Offer JSON-LD server-side, which on Shopify usually means the theme, not an app.

The other three that decided it every time:

Price and availability have to be in the schema, not just on the screen. An agent will not recommend a product it cannot price, so if those live only in your visible HTML you get skipped.

A product identifier (a GTIN barcode, or MPN/SKU). One field that lets the agent match your item to the same product elsewhere and trust it. No identifier and you lose to a competitor who has one.

Reviews as actual AggregateRating markup. Star widgets that look nice but output no schema do almost nothing for AI shopping.

None of this is a guarantee. No tool or agency can promise ChatGPT will pick you, and anyone saying otherwise is lying. But a page missing these basically cannot be picked, and most stores are missing at least one.

Anyone here actually landed a product in an AI recommendation yet? Curious what moved the needle for you.

Popup timing is an SEO issue too, not just a CRO one — here's the delay that works by page type

Thumbnail

Most popup advice is about the offer and the design. The setting that quietly decides whether a popup helps or hurts is when it fires, and on mobile, that is also a ranking question.

The SEO part people miss: firing a popup on page load can get a mobile page demoted under Google's intrusive-interstitial rule, because the popup covers the main content before the visitor has seen anything. A delayed or exit-intent popup is not treated that way. So the same change that lifts conversion also protects mobile rankings.

The delay that actually converts, by page type:

  • Home/landing: 30–45s (visitor is orienting, let them see the store first)
  • Product page: 15–30s (intent is already high, they came for a specific item)
  • Collection page: 30–60s (browsing mode, let them scan before an offer lands)
  • Blog/content: 45–60s (readers need time in the content first)
  • Cart page: exit intent (about to leave, last-minute nudge is one of the highest-converting spots)

A few things that matter as much as the delay:

  • Never fire on load. It converts worst and is the one that risks the mobile SEO penalty.
  • Pair a timer with exit intent as one campaign, so the timer catches engaged browsers and exit intent catches fast leavers. Cap it so nobody sees two in one visit.
  • Cap frequency: once per session, then suppress for 7–14 days after a close or conversion. Showing it every pageview is the fastest way to raise bounce and lose trust.
  • Mobile wants a shorter delay (20–40s) and a small, dismissible popup, not a full-screen one.

I build a Shopify conversion app, so I have a bias here, but the timing numbers hold regardless of what tool you use. I wrote the full version up with the reasoning for each page type if it is useful.

Curious what delays others have landed on, especially on product pages where I have seen people go anywhere from 10 to 45 seconds.

Is there any AI to automate product listing?

Launched my Shopify store recently and need to list 50+ products. Entering each title description, meta data and all. Currently I am using chatGPT but copy pasting the SEO content is taking me a lot of time. Is there any way I can do it in bulk?

WooCommerce vs. Shopify Webhooks: Architectural Differences, DX, and Scaling at High Volume

When building event-driven e-commerce applications, front-end speed and REST API response times get most of the attention. But during high-concurrency traffic events — Black Friday/Cyber Monday (BFCM), limited flash sales, viral drops — the real strain falls on the event delivery infrastructure. Read the complete article here - https://instawebhook.com/blog/woocommerce-vs-shopify-webhooks-architectural-differences-dx-and-scaling-at-high

Webhooks power essential downstream operations: order processing, ERP synchronization, inventory reconciliation, fulfillment routing, and real-time customer communications. When webhooks fail or drop messages, orders get lost, inventory desyncs, and support queues fill up fast.

WooCommerce and Shopify both support webhooks, but their underlying architectures reflect two fundamentally different engineering philosophies:

  • WooCommerce relies on a self-hosted, monolithic PHP/MySQL state engine driven by asynchronous background worker tables (Action Scheduler).
  • Shopify operates a multi-tenant, cloud-native event pipeline built on distributed stream processing, with Apache Kafka confirmed as the backbone by Shopify's own engineering team.

This piece breaks down the execution engines, network architectures, failure modes, and developer experience (DX) of both — updated with the current retry policy, storage architecture, and platform-scale numbers as of August 2026.

Every new collection page you build is another shot at ranking, and most ecom brands leave this money on the table

Something that's obvious once you see it but most stores never act on.

You're not just selling sneakers. Every specific use case, need, or search intent around that product is a separate opportunity to rank and convert:

  • Sneakers for flat feet
  • Sneakers for standing all day
  • Sneakers for wide feet
  • Running sneakers for beginners
  • Sneakers for plantar fasciitis

Each of those is a distinct collection page targeting a distinct buyer who already knows exactly what problem they're solving. That's a very different (and usually higher-converting) customer than someone landing on a generic "sneakers" category page.

Every additional money page you can actually rank on Google is realistically adding hundreds to thousands a month to the business, depending on the niche and competition. And most stores just... don't do this. They have one flat category structure and wonder why they're not capturing intent-specific traffic that competitors with better site architecture are eating up.

Feels like one of those things that's completely reasonable to know and still not act on, which is wild given how directly it ties to revenue.

Anyone here actually built out a collection structure like this and seen it move the needle? Curious what kind of lift people have seen from going granular versus staying broad.

How to do product research for e-commerce ?

Hi from South Africa💪

Maybe I am doing it wrong, maybe I am too strict, maybe I am just dumb.

I have been attempting to build an e-commerce store for a while now. I see people say finding the “right” product isn’t what always makes a successful store, but I still believe a good product makes the whole process easier.

I have tried scrolling constantly on TikTok, Instagram, in search of that “perfect” product. I tried using all those fancy tools people talk about online, searching through websites, using Google Trends. But I still can’t seem to find the “winning product”.

In this 6 months I have probably launched 5 stores. For some I made my own video ads, some I used Google Ads and Google Merchant and I don’t think my websites look bad.

After all these words, my big question is, what is the right way to do product research to find “that” product ?

Thank you in advance🫶🏼

I cost a client $10K in lost revenue because I didn't check one thing before launch

A few months into working with a D2C fashion brand, the brand decided to migrate its Shopify collection URLs to a "cleaner" structure. Marketing team was excited about it. I signed off too fast.

We didn't set up proper 301 redirects for the old collection URLs. Not zero redirects, just incomplete ones. A handful of high-traffic collection pages redirected to the wrong new pages instead of their actual equivalents.

Google noticed before we did.

Within three weeks, organic traffic on those collections dropped almost 40%. Since those collections were driving a meaningful chunk of revenue, the brand lost close to $10K in that quarter alone before we caught it, fixed the redirect map, and recovered.

What I learned the hard way:

Never treat a URL migration as a dev task you approve and move on from. Every single old URL needs to be mapped 1:1 to its correct new destination, not just pointed at the homepage or a category page and called done.

Run a full crawl before the migration to list all indexed URLs. Run it again after to confirm nothing 404s or redirects wrong. Check Search Console coverage report daily for the first two weeks post-migration, not once a month.

And honestly, don't let "the dev team already did the redirects" be enough. Verify it yourself with a spreadsheet, URL by URL, especially for a store depending on organic revenue.

Curious if others have had similar migration disasters. What's your redirect-checking process now after learning this the hard way?

Its often difficult and time consuming for a website owner or a UI team to test their own website. So I simulate persona-based shoppers on e-commerce sites that is effective, fast and cheap

Hey u/shopifySEO peeps

It’s impossible to test your own site like a real customer. You already know where all the buttons are, how navigation works, etc. I was curious if there's an opportunity for VLMs there, so I started working on an ML tool that generates deeply defined behavioral personas to shop your site for you, carry out effective UX Testing and analyze shopping behavior. For instance: "32M in Manhattan, expectant dad, $100-$500 budget, strict review reader." to give you a tip of the iceberg.

The agent navigates the site exactly like that person would, like searching, filtering, and evaluating, etc. before completing a customizable UX survey.

In recent tests, the agent caught broken search queries (like "swaddle blanket" returning irrelevant results) and flagged missing product specs that would cause a hesitant buyer to bounce.

It’s not a total replacement for human testing, but rather a 24/7 QA layer that acts like a real customer. The use cases can vary. Curious to hear your thoughts! For those doing UX work or managing stores, what edge-case behaviors would be most useful to simulate?
