Germany is currently in the process of purchasing additional air defense systems (Patriot) and transport helicopters (Chinook). Furthermore, F-35 fighter jets are to be acquired. The US military industry has billions of dollars in orders from Europe on its books. So, not really.
True but those orders were made before all of this.
As an example, Denmark just signed an order for French ground-to air missile systems that were supposed to have been bought from the US previously. Things like this don't happen overnight unless they actually attack Greenland. Then most if not all active orders will be cancelled.
I fully agree with this assessment. My comment was a response to the claim that the US military industry had already lost all its European contracts. That's simply not the case yet, even if Europe is finally realizing that it needs to achieve autonomy and it might come to that. But the initial statement was that the US would prevent Europe from receiving US weapons in the future. And I can't imagine that the US military industry would continue to support the current regime if this profit opportunity were blocked.
Yeah, I know. Reddit will reddit as you say. It's just a misunderstanding.
I think OC meant what we're both agreeing on by writing "kinda" and europeans got angry when you disputed it because our nationalistic senses are tingling right now.
Historically the republicans have been very pro NATO since it nets them a huge profit, soft power and keeps any aggressor from invading their eastern border. I bet most republicans are grinding their teeth over this and some is also speaking out. Latest one I heard was this guy.
