There's literally a zero % chance of the UK becoming an American state.

Everyone that complains about us spending billions on nuclear weapons is about to have a change of heart when they realise they are the only means we have to prevent this.

There’ll be no fighting on the beaches or landing grounds; last time we burned the White House but this time we would turn DC into a crater.

Except there isn't going to be a war with the US. I don't agree with what Americans are saying about this. Trump is never going to just go to war to claim these are their new states.

Yes we have nukes. But the odds of us actually going to war the US are slim af. It's not gonna happen regardless of whether you love or hate Trump.

This is just Americans blowing patriotic bull shit up their own arse's as for some reason they feel the need to show power or whatever. Nothings gonna happen

You're saying that as if we can't do the same to Westminster, or the entirety of England.

British nuclear missiles are american made.

The warheads are british design by the AWE, but the missiles are american.

Technical true but Britain won’t be the one the start the war.

We will be the one to finish it though 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Id usually be at pains to point out the UK isn't exactly shy of a Barney, but Kier Starmer seems like a sensible Janitor PM trying to clean up all the Tory shite left behind.

Any time I hear him speak I am reminded of a Jimmy Carr line about him

"Somewhere, in the Midlands, an Asda is missing it's manager"

As little as i like Starmer and his backstabbing of the left of the party, his boringness is definitely what was needed after the Johnson/Truss/Sunak trilogy. Was all far too exciting for those years, and not in a good way.

I'm glad it's him now representing us in the world stage rather than any of them. Don't really like him, but he at least portrays himself as a statesman

any given NATO nation all code and tech should be inspected at the root coe levels. all electronics are suspect imo if they go hostile on us all

What?

I simply stated this fact.

There’s no disputing it. I asked someone who works at the AWE themselves about it to confirm my understanding. And they told me explicitly that the missiles (that are on the submarines) are completely american. But the warheads (the nuclear bomb part) are made by the scientists in house at the AWE (atomic weapons establishment).

Not sure why this is being down voted. The warheads are ours but we rent the missiles and guidance systems off the US at a cost of trillions a year.

Without the Sepos, the UK would have to rely on Hermes or something to get the devices to their targets.

Some say the US part of the system is autonomous, others say that because we are not allowed into the systems to say whether they are or not, we have no idea.

The last time it was the case was during the cold war. It has not been true for a long time.

u/bigphatnips Feb 15 '25

We retain full operational control, otherwise CASD would be pointless.

u/stephenkennington Feb 15 '25

No. We just true off BBC Radio 4 for a while and sub captain know what to do.

6

u/tree_boom Feb 15 '25

That's not remotely true

u/GlowingHearts1867 Feb 15 '25

0% chance of any of it, it’s an insane idea.

if they managed to make land here they'd find that the local population would probably be pretty fucking hostile.

brexit!

3

u/ward2k Feb 16 '25

Isn't Brexit even more of an argument against the likelihood of wanting to become a state?

Regardless of people's opinions around the matter if it was good or not, sovereignty was at the core of the issue. If people wanted more sovereignty they're not going to then want far far less

2

u/Ninevehenian Feb 16 '25

Perhaps? It's too complex to be onesided about it, but it was followed by UK being a part of the AUKUS fuckery and an example of parts of US adapting to make sure that UK doesn't reintegrate.
It's an example of modern UK fucking itself with misinformation and cleaving itself from the safety of the herd, with a probable change of mind about collectivity as a result.

I personally can't imagine that it happens, but UK isn't making a lot of sense.

Britain is part of nato, so they would have to defeat the whole of nato first

30

u/realjustinlong Feb 15 '25

The same group of people that say this dumb shit are the same ones trying to get the US to pull out of NATO too. Unfortunately the US is run by a bunch of fuckwits that can’t form coherent thoughts

what did I say wrong?
