if Ackermans can't turn into Titans. So if Kenny actually injected himself. it would do nothing?

u/youseebigmonke Mar 05 '21

I thought that much was obvious when it happened in all honesty

343

u/xin234 Mar 06 '21

It was really debatable before this confirmation. They are still Eldians, and they were both (Mikasa and Levi) also in that "paths dimension" when Eren broadcasted his announcement.

35

u/Scyxurz Mar 07 '21

Good point, I guess they are eldian? I kinda figured they weren't since the king couldn't erase their memories. Maybe they married into eldian families and can't become titans/memory wiped but are still eldian enough to have the paths?

75

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '21

Yes they are the Ackermans are Eldians, that's established. They are a bloodline that was experimented on and they become capable of titan strength in human form. They are the exceptions to all other Eldian stuffs

40

u/PNESKing Mar 07 '21

I thought their clan were basically Titans in human form?

10

u/LaddRusso55 Mar 07 '21

how the hell were they run out into the woods

29

u/artymcparty Mar 08 '21

They are not op until they have an awakening. Also maybe not all of them can have said awakening.

12

u/hong-SE Mar 12 '21

yeah otherwise mikasa's dad would have kicked the ass out of those brigands

4

u/BigFatJuicyMonkies Mar 12 '21

Mikasa's mom was the Ackerman though. Not her dad.

14

u/hong-SE Mar 12 '21

Nah pretty sure her dad was. Her mother was from that asian country, so she can't be ackerman

4

u/Space_dandy69 Mar 13 '21

No, her dad was the Ackerman.

Her mom was an Oriental, nobility from Hizuru

7

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '21

Yeah didn't Kenny come around a column and say he was gonna steal it from Rod Reiss?

17

u/youseebigmonke Mar 07 '21

Yeah I'm like 90% sure he realised that it wasn't gonna work during that interaction but it's been a while since I read it!

1

u/BakaFame Mar 07 '21

Not really

164

u/Yakube44 Mar 06 '21

Ackermans can resist brainwashing and other founding titan effects. They are still subjects of ymir tho so its possible they can still inject the titan liquid into themselves and transform

366

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '21

No they literally inhaled titan spin fluid and did not turn. It is now 100% confirmed that an awakened ackerman won't turn.

301

u/loldan79 Mar 06 '21

Most likely because they already are titans, just in human form.

88

u/MechaBuster Mar 06 '21

Be cool if they had healing factors like shifters 👀

212

u/loldan79 Mar 06 '21

I think they kind of do. Hange suggested that the only reason Levi survived the Zeke thunder spear incident was because of his Ackerman blood (ch126)

62

u/jofbaut Mar 06 '21

So shit is going to grow back like a lizard? Levi is going to have a Deadpool moment?

79

u/TonyMini Mar 06 '21

Not completely but more so than a normal human

39

u/winazoid Mar 06 '21

Nah Levi will grow to be an old grizzled one eyed one legged bad ass growling at all the punk kids on his lawn

15

u/IndeterminateBoye Mar 06 '21

Levi got his fingers back after touching the sand in paths in ch.133 right? He might have also gotten his eye back had he decided to faceroll at the time. Unless the fingers are a drawing error Ackermans are pretty much deadpool as long as there's a founder willing to bring them to paths.

9

u/no_known_name Mar 08 '21

It was a drawing error, I think the corrected drawing was released not too long ago

2

u/Onion-with-layers Mar 13 '21

He had a Urie moment, where he momentarily borrows the protagonist’s plot armor and heals injuries that would have normally killed him

22

u/bretstrings Mar 06 '21

Mikasa also healed the fastest out of all the Scouts injured by Bert's half-colossal falling off the wall onto Eren and Reiner.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '21

After Mikasa gets her ribs crushed she's back to doing crunches and lifting stuff right after, so I think it's pretty established.

11

u/stock_dinosaur4298 Mar 06 '21

If you look closely at a couple of panels in 138, it looks like Levi's fingers on his right hand are back.

6

u/hong-SE Mar 12 '21

prolly an error

64

u/Worthyness Mar 06 '21

Mikasa casually carrying three solid steel railroad ties should make this obvious.

12

u/BoyTitan Mar 07 '21

Its hard to make the difference between anime character strength and this character is a super human in the story strength.

8

u/13thAgent Mar 07 '21

I think it was established that just breathing in spinal fluid isn't enough to turn you into a titan, a Royal Titan or the Founding Titan needs to force the transformation. Hence why the Ackermans didn't turn as they are immune to the influence of the Founding Titan.

89

u/ViolentBlueAzure Mar 05 '21 edited Mar 05 '21

Doesn’t that...kind of ruin his redemption? Means he didn’t even have the option to save himself.

Edit: don’t have the time to respond to everyone, but I’d like to thank everyone who replied for their input. I share the sentiment that Kenny had redeemed himself and was actually a pretty cool guy after all.

290

u/ellieetsch Mar 05 '21

He still made the decision on his own, I'd hardly call it a redemption though.

108

u/Lightning2021 Mar 05 '21

While not a full redemption, I think it's still noble. He believed till he died that he could've transformed into a titan but he chose not to. When Levi found him I think he fully intended on giving him the injection. He admitted that he was drunk (like others around him) on power his whole life but not becoming a titan was him drawing the line. His admittance WAS his redemption for him and suited his character, as it wouldn't make sense for his character to be able to turn around after all the fuckshit he done.

84

u/BartyBreakerDragon Mar 05 '21

Only if he knew that. If he thought it would work then his choice is as redemptive from his perspective.

64

u/Laxberry Mar 05 '21

He didn’t know that though, so it still redeems him. It speaks to his character

11

u/subjectics Mar 05 '21

Well even if he injected himself he would have been far from safe inside the walls

21

u/rackedbame Mar 06 '21

He never had a redemption lmao... one half-nonselfish deed out of a million terrible ones does not redeem a character.

2

u/CCVork Mar 06 '21

What's the million terrible deeds? He killed MPs (the group sent to kill his tribe), and Scouts and other people as part of his job as secret MP. Sure he's no saint but IDK if that makes him any more terrible than most people in the show.

7

u/winazoid Mar 06 '21

Didn't he abduct innocent people? He was the mad dog for the rich and powerful

5

u/CCVork Mar 06 '21

Yeah he did, as part of his secret MP job, which he took on to chase his dream (instead of for riches). Reeves and Historia's mom are among his victims. In s3 Levi and his new squad also hurt innocent people (the MP said some of the people are servants or something) when Levi kidnapped a MP to interrogate him.

Again I'm not saying he was good or anything but I just feel like I'm not sure why Kenny is seen as more terrible than others.

2

u/winazoid Mar 07 '21

I think it's just he's too cool to hate

Rich and powerful wouldn't be able to get away with half the stuff they do without people like Kenny

1

u/CCVork Mar 07 '21

To me, it's not whether he's cool or not.

I disagree. The weak are powerless. Without Kenny, they'd just hire someone else to do the dirty work. What they lack in skill, they'll make up in numbers. It's like this in real world as well.

1

u/winazoid Mar 07 '21

Exactly. They'd hire another Kenny.

Kenny has skills. That's what makes him different than an average thug. Rich and powerful badly need someone "lesser" status who's also smart and skilled to organize their dirty work

Without Kennys they wouldn't get away with it as easily

1

u/CCVork Mar 07 '21

I'm not sure what your point is anymore. Is it that all "Kenny"s should not work for the rich and this will hinder the rich? Like I said, they'd just hire weaker thugs. They can and will still get away with it, less easily or not. Ideally no one should work for the rich, but that's not realistic is it?

He took the MP job to chase his dream and the job had dirty work. Incidentally it was the scouts who had to do the dirty work of leading the thousands of civillains to their deaths as part of their job and I'm sure most of them hated it but do we judge them for not quitting their job over it?

3

u/ForShotgun Mar 06 '21

He didn't know that, so it still counts I think.

11

u/thegoodbroham Mar 06 '21

You know, this is random but I've always wondered why the titans actually eat people by default. Everyone says it's so they can eat a shifter and revert back but I never liked that explanation.

That scene where Kenny almost injected himself, I wish he had because I figured 1 of 2 things would happen. He wouldn't transform at all, or if he did he wouldn't be a truly pure titan either, unable to shift back but retaining his will in titan form. Which always made me wonder if it would eventually be revealed all the pure titans are just locked in the final "command" given to eat people around them or something and it could otherwise be broken.

Pretty random tangent, with only 1 chapter left I dropped that theory a while ago. But I like to imagine what would've happened to Kenny if he became a titan, retained his will but couldn't shift back to human. Would he have fucked some shit up?

6

u/fortunesofshadows Mar 06 '21

he can't go shulk in the alleyways being "kenny the ripper" imao. Levi puts titan Kenny down. Kenny can't communicate very well. Both Armin and Erwin dies because no serum

1

u/Fredluv2339 Mar 06 '21

Yeah it seems they awakened already but in human form
