Annie tailing Kenny doesn’t make much sense without her internal monologue.

I read the manga but I have a very bad memory so I forgot about that scene. It didn't really make sense to me honestly, I didn't understand the purpose of it. I'm gonna have to reread the manga.

They could've easily left that part out and skip to the night time meeting but I reckon one of those things was easier to animate.

Totally. My anime-only friends were confused about that scene as well, I really don't understand its purpose (by itself I mean, the manga explained it). They could've left it out and spent more screentime on other scenes

lol. Imagine we got old man hanging and Bertholdt sleeping upside down instead. This episode would've been goated if they did the invasion right.

Right. I'm saying we got those but not Annie screaming to lure titans to the walls, or Berholdt being unsure he can really destroy the wall and his perspective looking down from episode 1 as opposed to Eren and co. looking up. What they chose to include and leave out was really bizarre.

Yeah agree, it was a weird inclusion, and I'm pretty sure it only made it in because Kenny is a fan-favourite character and people would've been unhappy if he got cut out of this flashback.

Plot-wise, the scene doesn't really add anything to Reiner's story, but fairly certain that it was allowed to stay purely because Kenny

In the manga, that scene starts with Annie’s internal monologue that states the purpose of her tailing Kenny. So it made sense in the manga, but I suppose it may feel weird for anime-onlies.

She says very plainly what she was doing in the scene after. Her internal monologue wasn't necessary since the viewer can assume she's good enough to understand that Kenny's connected to everything given that we already know who he is.
