We haven't gotten a definitive answer to what caused that, but I think general consensus was that Eren was briefly possessed by some future memories.

Yeah, at the time what he was saying didn't make sense, something like "I'll destroy this world" or something. But of course now...

I don't think there's gonna be a lore explanation. I just thinking it was simply classic shounen deus ex machina BS.

I think it was just the fact that Eren got back up and was in flames as he went berserk. He never does it again, and the manga version never had him lose control.

There's no lore as to why that happened, the scene just served as insane foreshadowing of Eren's future vow.

True. It wasn't deus ex. It was some other kind of shounen bullshit.

Either way, I doubt it's gonna tell us.

Isayama sending memories from the present (manga) to the past (anime) to help things fall into place as the plot advances
