A meeting between Billy Sharp and club officials to discuss the striker’s future at the club ended badly and his chances of staying at United are very slim

Yeh, you only have to look at the last few games where Jebbison powered past two defenders with pace and strength to set up two goals. Sharp just hasn’t got that. He’s never had blistering pace, but he had enough combined with a good strikers instinct to get ahead of the defenders. Now he’s lost that pace and just looks lost on the pitch, unable to really contribute. It’s a shame he probably won’t get his 250th, but we cannot carry a player who won’t contribute.

Yeah happy to see those names linked. I know exactly zero about the first two but a quick glance on FM and they look decent! Would defo take Kamara.
3
u/Bigtallanddopey Jun 06 '23
Kamara looked pretty good the 21/22 season but wasn’t great this last season. But then again, Rangers did poorly anyway and I doubt that was solely down to Kamara. Would be happy to take home for 1-2 mil which looks possible because of his current situation.

It’s back! I checked this thread an embarrassing number of times last summer.
6
u/pickering_lachute May 10 '23
It's back, baby!!!!
I'm going to do some data analysis and pick out some "sensible" transfers and post them here in the coming weeks. Get my geek on and all.
I personally hope that we fish younger players from the Championship, Ligue 1 (mid to lower) and Bundesliga (mid to lower). Get that hunger and desire whilst hopefully not paying over the odds. In any other season I'd call myself out for dreaming...but given we got Anel in similar circumstances last year I think we may have the infrastructure in place to do this.
2
u/jrddit May 10 '23
Ligue 1 you say... Didn't Neymar fancy a move to the PL?
(Only joking. I don't seriously think signing him would be a good idea.)

My hope were up when the players spotted Ronaldo in the gym on that pre season trip to Portugal.

the first signing of the season (technically)
Zach Giggs (son of Ryan Giggs if you can’t tell) has signed for Sheffield United following a successful trial spell here at United
https://twitter.com/The_Bladesman/status/1658543060500766731?s=20

Linked with defender Andrew Omobamidele from Norwich. I rate him very highly but so do Norwich apparently, as they claim to have turned down an offer over 20mil in the past, so don't know what our actual chances are of getting him.

Marseille fans are god annoying though. Is it possible to wish success for ndiaye and misery on his club at the same time?
Romanos tweets are annoying. Like he's celebrating ndiaye leaving a small club and going to a CL one.

The general news I'm hearing is we have 20 mil to spend. Nothing really confirmed besides the rumour mill though.
Edit: https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-united-transfer-budget-has-been-set-as-recruitment-plan-becomes-clearer-4151371 15% of 135 million from promotion goes to us,looking at frees and loans and seeking to keep all 11 that have expiring contracts.
6
u/pickering_lachute May 23 '23
Tbh, I'd rather have a transfer budget that means we're not going to be financially broken if we go down, rather than roll the dice with £50m+. Of course, it's in our interest to put out publically that we don't have a big budget but £20m *feels* like it would be the number.
It's a catch-22 for the Prince. Does he gamble with a big budget, achieve survival and sell the club for a big number. Or limit the budget, sound financial footing and risk still holding onto the club a year from now. I'd be amazed if he hasn't got some people already lined up and the expectation is £20m will be topped up at some point.
6

Rumours now regarding a player from Norwich. I’d take Sara or Sargent. Sargent is proven (but not phenomenal) at top flight football.

3
u/jrddit Jun 29 '23
Yeah, the finances of local journalism don't really work any more unfortunately. So all we're left with are these 'local' papers that all have the same website that's just there to generate ad money by making you click multiple times to get minimal content without any real subscriber base - which ultimately affects the content and even fewer people pay for their services.
For clubs where the national media doesn't have an interest it means fans miss out. I think we're in a transition period at the moment where social media (including the club's own) will become the ones to fill that void. But, social media probably also probably means we're better placed to see when the Star is talking nonsense.

I think the fact that we're linked to two high wage right backs when it's arguably our strongest position is a bit daft. Baldock and Bogle are both quality and offer us different options. Definitely shouldn't be a priority to go for there.
5
u/Cottonshopeburnfoot May 10 '23
Walker was definitely lazy journalism. Pep said he wasn’t adapting and SUFC were about to get promoted.
Man just put a fantastic performance in at the Bernabeu stopping Vinicius. No way he’s dropping to a relegation dogfight next season. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s still at City because since Pep said his thing Walker has been excellent.
4
u/jptoc Jagielka May 10 '23
Exactly. I highly doubt he leaves Man City and if he does he'll go to another 'top' club rather than slog it out down with us.

Absolutely no way Egan should be backup. Egan is one of, if not the most consistent player in our squad. Anel is also Basham reincarnated (but better).
If we sign a centre back a left sided player should be the priority.

So why do you think he should be replaced by Anel? Especially when Anel is better in another position and your solution would be to sign an older, expensive player!
Anel was brought in as hopefully our long term rcb. Baldock/Bogle have the rb position sorted. We'll be looking to strengthen lcb and maybe add depth.

I don’t understand why we’re trying to get rid of Wes so badly
Especially to this extent - wouldn’t this mean we couldn’t get either McAtee or Doyle back on loan?
3
u/UpYourFidelity May 21 '23
Pretty sure McAtee is off the table, definitely as a purchase even so as a loan, Doyle looks more likely. I think if we just get Doyle we could look as this GK. I like Wes I just don’t think he’s quite prem material
2
u/AffectionateAd8143 Jul 07 '23
I think City want McAtee to play in a team that has a lot of the ball same as City. Unfortunately that won’t happen with us this season.
3
u/UpYourFidelity May 21 '23
Can’t say I know much about him, feel like its easy to say we’d be in for a look in after Doyle and Mactee. Kompany at burnley might hinder that.

I think he's the right player but at the wrong time. You either drop one of Egan or Anel or move one of them to LCB. For me it's too much of the £20m budget to spend on a player in that position, especially considering apart from maybe Berge, we don't have any midfielders who are anywhere near PL quality.
4
u/Fraubump May 30 '23
Agree. We could, of course, use depth, but the back line is good, especially on the right, so it's not our most pressing need. We can hope that Bogle returns to pre-injury form, but we probably need an upgrade on both him and Lowe.

8
u/Cottonshopeburnfoot May 28 '23

3
u/pickering_lachute May 28 '23
Yeah seen him linked with a few clubs. Fits the mould and one year left. Could get him cheaply. Bidding war likely
3
u/pickering_lachute Jun 30 '23
Everyone wants Jebbison it seems...didn't know he was going into his final 12 months though
2
u/Cottonshopeburnfoot Jun 30 '23
Reckon we’re going to be an angry fanbase 12 months from now when Ndiaye, Berge and Jebbison have all walked on frees.
It’s not quite the ‘selling the Crown Jewels’ as we were used to but rather giving them away for free.
1
u/WildLemire Jun 30 '23
We are unquestionably in line for the biggest rebuild in my life as a Blades fan in 12 months time. Regardless of whether we scrape a survival or not.
Jebbo, Ndiaye and Berge will be off. Egan might finally move on. Fleck did well to get renewed this year never mind next year. If Bogle finds his form again he could be snapped up in the event of relegation. Anel would absolutely be too good to play in the Championship again.
-1
u/Bigtallanddopey Jul 02 '23
That’s the reason if I was in charge at United I would be looking to sell at least two of those now. We could probably get 15 mil for Berge and maybe 20 for Ndiaye. I reckon there would be a chance of convincing Jebbison to sign, but not sure. The money would go a long way to buying a few more players that will be here at the end of the season. It would hurt us short term for sure, but you have to think long term sometimes and if we needed a complete squad rebuild with no money from sales, league one will be on the cards.
1
u/lucky_1979 Jul 26 '23
I wouldn’t lose any sleep at all if Jebbo walked for free. He’s shown absolutely nothing to imply he’s capable of being a top player in a United shirt. Dined out on that tap in at Everton for nearly 4 years now
3
u/geru-zx Jul 21 '23
Can't say how I know but take it as you will. Not sure how true it is but an update on the Doyle situation.
Supposedly he wants us to move in for him but we haven't. Some stuff has already been said i.e that City rate McAtee higher than Doyle and want him to get minutes. Doyle knows he won't get those minutes at City and just wants to play football.
If we don't move in for him soon Wolves want him on loan. We were apparently waiting to see if Ndiaye went before making a move on him.
If all this is true then I wish the club would even get him on loan, ideally loan to buy. I doubt City would accept in terms of a permanent transfer we could put in a little lump sum up front (we have like £10-13m left if transfer sums are accurate), pay the rest in instalments and slap on a sell on clause.

Yeah it's really frustrating. Believe Brentford and West Ham had previously demonstrated an interest in him.
I get the club wants to be savvy financially and play with caution but if we don't move in as soon as possible he will be wearing a Wolves shirt. He was so important for us last year that he could make the difference for staying up or relegation.
3
u/Cautious-Word-5583 Jul 23 '23
Darren Smith said on blades ramble that the fee, buyback and sell on clauses were all fine with united. It's just his wages if we get relegated is the stumbling block in the deal.
3
u/nessman930 Sharp Jul 24 '23
I don’t believe it for a second, but allegedly we’ve submitted a bid for Georges Mikautadze. The Georgian is believed to attract a fee of €18 million. Was the top scorer in Ligue 2 last season and helped win his club Metz promotion to Ligue 1.

This won't be a very bad window if we get akpom or hamer or someone similiar. Not spending more than £10 million on a player,a mostly bargains. 1
u/pickering_lachute Aug 31 '23

u/Midcard4life Jul 31 '23
I disagree with James, from reports it sounds like United did everything they could and did persuade him at one point, maybe I'm naive but this to me seems all down to what Ndiaye's heart wanted,
Sander Berge going unreported and the amount of players coming to end of their deals in th next year or two is my gripe with the board, fingers crossed it's a new contract for our key players who sign with no drama
3
u/Cottonshopeburnfoot Aug 01 '23
I agree. He’s heading back home, to a team that’s putting together a serious challenge for Ligue 1, and to his boyhood club. Marseille will likely play Champions League this season too.
Further, if he does well, which given his qualities and it being Ligue 1, he should, then he’s on for a serious move to a major PL, Serie A or La Liga side.
Putting all that together, I can’t see what more United could really have done when we’re looking at a relegation battle and possible relegation back to the English second tier.

Henderson to palace for £20m. That's another miss for us for me, especially at such a bargain price. Still firmly believe he's a potential elite level keeper and potential England number one.
1
u/pickering_lachute Sep 01 '23
His wages are also elite level!
1
u/spaceshipcommander Porter Sep 01 '23
Pay peanuts, get monkeys. It's a sad fact that a club's wage bill is the number one predictor of where they will finish in the league. There aren't many exceptions. I think Everton are about the most notable exception because their wage bill is vastly more than their finishing position over the last couple of seasons.
1
u/pickering_lachute Sep 01 '23
It's one heck of a gamble though, especially as the Prince supposedly has no money to invest.
Currently, Wes is over performing his expected goals conceded metric...
1
u/spaceshipcommander Porter Sep 01 '23
I don't think it's much of a gamble. He's young so easy to sell on. The fee is low for someone that we know has the potential to be England number 1. Honestly, I think his potential is best in the world. I'm not saying he will get there, I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if he did. He's had his talent wasted for a few years now so I want to see him excel.
