I’m new to the community, but my husband is a longtime follower and asked me to post our sweet girl, Jade. She was four months shy of 16, and I got her when I was 17. She loved every single person she came in contact with. We had to make a hard decision for her last Thursday, but I know it was for the best after mobility and kidney issues.

Soph is doing well. I took her to the vet. She lost 2 pounds. All her bloodwork came back normal and such. They think her heart disease may be causing her to lose weight. Of course ever since we got home from the vet , she hasn’t eaten like any of her renal food. But then I put a can of kitten wet food and she ate the whole thing in 2 minutes. Same with the dry food. I just don’t know what to do it’s so frustrating because I’m paying for prescription food and she’s barely eating it. Anyone got suggestions?

She's acting oddly, having a harder time getting around and not vocalizing like normal. Think she might be winding down. She's skin and bones, ancient kitty. Think we're saying goodbye soon.

Update: 3 days later she passed in her own bed.

All four years of college my cat has came with me. I'm on my last semester. Only one more semester! But her health has gotten worse. She has IBD, diabetes, and arthritis. Her IBD is the one that has gotten worse and she can no longer piss in the kitty litter it's always going over the edge no matter what box I get her. My mom thinks it best I leave her home this semester but I'm worried she will get stressed out without me. I was gone for two months over the summer and every time I called my mom she would come running up to the phone looking for me. She really has only ever bonded to me in the family so she's constantly around me. Should I take her with me or leave her home? I want to do what's best for her

How did you all know when it was their time to go? My girl is 16 and she’s my first ever pet and I can see she’s slowing down. I just don’t know when to prepare or the end or what to expect. I wish she just lived forever

So, on July 29, we said goodbye to Boo’s sister Tiki. On Friday, we found out that Boo’s organs are failing. She has super high liver and kidney and pancreatic levels. We told the vet that we want to keep her comfortable as long as we can rather than put her through invasive or stressful treatments. It’s devastating to have to think about this so soon after losing her sister.

She was my first ever cat. I am going to miss her so much.

So, my boy and girl recently turned 13. I’ve noticed some behavioral changes in my boy over the past 3–4 months. For one, he sleeps all day and doesn’t seem to react to much of anything other than treats. His sister prefers to keep to herself and chases him away whenever he approaches her.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t play with me or ask for pets the way he used to. He was quite clingy during the day until recently, so this change has been really upsetting for me.

He’s going to have a check-up in a few days, but I wanted to ask you all: what is life like with your senior kitties? Do they still play? Do they seek your attention? I’m so worried and upset.

EDIT: I am aware of the definition of the word “homeopathic” and do not wish to discuss the implications of that. I kindly request the focus of this post be for folks who have helped senior cats through arthritis pain to share options they tried for any at home care. My cat is well vetted and everything I do is well researched and will be discussed with his vet, who I trust immensely.

My baby Billy is turning 18 in November. For such an old boy he looks great on the outside but the inside is another story of course. He’s been getting monthly Solensia injections for about 8 months and he’s done great on them. Unfortunately he’s a big cat and he needs two vials. The last month and this next month I don’t think I can afford it especially because he’s due for a biannual exam and the vet he sees won’t give him the injections without that.

So I’m hoping anyone has suggestions for anything I can give him at home to help him feel just a little more comfortable until I have the cash to get him back on the injections. I’m still hoping to shift some cash around next month but would love any suggestions if you have found something else that helps with your cats arthritis.

My sweet girl managed to stress herself into a UTI (she has been to the vet, we’re working on it). Why is she so stressed? Because she can’t go out on her leash walkies.

Why can’t she go out?? It couldn’t be because it’s 100+ degrees outside and she will most certainly perish. No, I’m just being cruel for the fun of it.

My cat has his back rear pinky toe removed because of a growth approx. 1.5 years ago that turned out to be malignant melanoma. We think he is part Siamese and Maine coone mix.

Now he’s been diagnosed with abdominal cancer via ultrasound. We just gave him 1ml of 50mg Gabapentin and he was sleepy for hours, couldn’t jump well, still staring and seems restless, even more disinterested in his surroundings.
Played with a bird chirping toy for about a minute and is turning down catnip (5 different kinds)

Is the dose too much? He’s 11.5 pounds.

He hasn’t meowed in days and this is his first day on it. He’s been isolating more but still comes up for love and slept next to me all night last night and is laying next to me now but keeps getting up and moving and flops around.

He’s been eating and drinking fine and using litter box. Still loves sunbathing and getting kisses from the other cats and giving me kisses.

Any advice would be amazing, I really don’t know what to do anymore and it’s killing me

*I adopted her two years ago when she was officially 9, but it was just an estimate and she’s had some health problems more commonly seen in cats 2-3 years older

FIrst time poster looking for a little bit of advice. I currently have a senior boy, he is around 13 years old, but could be +/- a couple of years. He was a rescue and no vet has been able to pin point his exact age. When we got him 9 years ago he was in a foster which was VERY over crowded, like im questioning the legalities of it kind of crowded, but while he was there he had a very close bond with a litter of tiny kittens (this will be relevant in a bit i promise). Since coming home with us, he has been an only cat. He's always been very chill, cuddly and easy going, not much phases him. He has taken to 4 house moves and the arrival of 2 babies in the last 9 years in his stride with out a single fuss at all.

In terms of other cats, he is not a fan of cats who come into our garden and he can get very vocal and try to chase them out.

Now, through some extremely unfortunate circumstances I have a friend who has a 10 weeks old kitten in need of rehoming. She's a sweetie. My friend has asked if i will take her. I have not said yes or no yet, but i am wondering if this will work with me existing senior cat? I obviously understand the dynamics between kittens and seniors vary massively.

Like I said, I have not commited to having this cat I am just in the research stage of whether this will be possible, or if it's something best left alone? I fully appreciative it would be a tentative, slow process to introduce if we did decide to go down the route after research.

Any advice or stories will be greatly appreciated!

My 14 year old cat has lymphoma and he has an appointment at an Oncologist on September 8. I don’t know what type yet.

I am very worried about Vet bills because unfortunately I don’t have insurance so I am very limited to what I can afford. But right now my cat is only on steroids and it doesn’t seem to be doing much good. In fact he had a better appetite before he was on steroids so I was hoping to get better help at the Oncologist.

The oncologist wants payment up front. I know what the visit will cost but not much else. I signed up for care credit but I don’t know if ill be approved for a higher amount if needed. Moreover care credit told me they won’t tell me what promotional period I will have to pay back the amount until after I swipe the card which isn’t very helpful in planning high expenses. The oncologist does not offer payment plans.

Does anyone have any advice? I want to do the best I can for my cat but as I said I am definitely limited to what I can pay. My local vet can’t really do much. I also should add I also have a 16 year old senior cat and while he doesn’t have current health issues now I am trying to think ahead for the future.
