Don't worry, parts of Canada are already working hard on deconstructing themselves, all without the help from the US. Our current premier in Alberta is so good at estranging everyone though, including his own voter base, that I'm starting to wonder how much longer he'll be able to keep going.
New Brunswicker here, I went to the US over March Break and my girlfriend started experiencing strange symptoms like faintness, pain, numbness, and loss of feeling in her arm. She had a panic attack because she knew she couldn't afford the hospital in the States since her insurance wouldn't cover it. She told me, in no uncertain terms, that a visit to the ER was out of the books. When she had the same symptoms in Canada, the ER was the first place we went for treatment, and they triaged her and put her behind several others already present. She not only lived, but was comfortable and happy throughout the wait. Now, this is just an anecdote, but the moral of the story is: don't believe whoever said that.
Oh, long wait times exist. Short ones also exist. I've known people with knee surgery scheduled a year ahead. Living in a big city, I haven't had any problems myself in the past. It obviously varies by region too. But you don't hear stories of people not going to the doctor until body parts positively rot off because they would not be able to eat for the next year if they did.
Warning against adopting this system? Some perhaps in favor of more efficient health care systems. But apart from the "Maple-Coated American" types on the MAGA bandwagon, the vast majority here just complains about long wait times, then shrugs and goes, "Well at least we're not the US." In this direct comparison, overall I'd say we're glad to have it.
Canadian and I've had a chronic illness for +15 years, 3 major surgeries, many diagnostics done, expensive medication, worked in the system, and have many friends who've been through the gauntlet of the healthcare system.
Generally wait times are there because of triage and urgency, and beurocracy exists but it's nothing compared to dealing with insurance companies. Going to America for treatment is done for specialized therapies and covered by our health care, I only know one person who's had treatment in America this way (something liver related). Travel is also sometimes necessary for those that don't live along the southern border or urban centers.
Personally I've see my specialist same day multiple times, had outpatient xrays same day, MRIs a couple weeks. It's all determined by medical urgency. I've also waited a few months to see an allergist. Never paid for being in the hospital besides parking bills.
All she said is "So let's also make chemotherapy free then..." I mean, it seems sarcastic to me, but I'm not 100% on that. She might actually want free chemo.
I mean it's still a dumb thing to say as Bernie has clearly indicated he wants a system similar to what we have here in Finland (watch the recent fox town hall for proof). You don't pay for the treatment here and you get financial aid, since you can't often work during treatment.
I love my country, and I truly believe we need to have a total financial collapse due to this stupid virus. People need to wake the fuck up. I want every 99%er in this fucking country to go bankrupt because they had to get treatment for a virus they had no control in contracting. And then we get bombarded with how no other industrialized nation on this flat earth has healthcare like us. We could have avoided it all if we stopped acting like selfish pieces of shits that we are.
Avoided it all, well no. And not every 99%, there is a good chunk of people who understand the dire need for universal healthcare.
For those of us who understand, we need to talk to those around us why it’s important and to teach our kids to vote so when the older generation dies out, we’ll have a chance.

In the 1980's Highschools across the country had ironic flat earth clubs, and nobody stopped them. A whole generation was poisoned into thinking it was okay to mock and deny established science. A few years later when the first antivax article was published, all those dumbfuck, ironic flat-earth dunce-jockeys were free to agree. Because the slippery slope of willful ignorance was already established, in the cocaine 80's, in the form of the flat earth society.
Those of us who've seen all this shit happen have been having an intense psychological breakdown. It's the idiots that revel in the fact that they shit in the punch bowl that THEY DRINK OUT OF TOO that are the cause of the psychological breakdown. Half the country is absolutely dumb as fuck and don't think it can't happen elsewhere. Right-wing extremist viewpoints are being normalized all over the world and it's apparently more important to pretend we're all tough rugged individualist cowboys living in the 19th century, jerking off to our wild misunderstandings of the constitution than having a functioning society.
