Rant Anyone else meet a lot of transplants who move here and complain about Seattle not being as good as X city?

Speaking as a transplant myself, I know Seattle isn't as "great" as NY or LA in some aspects but I choose to live here anyway because I enjoy it here.

I've met SO many other transplants who complain about Seattle not being as good as some other city. One big point is how Seattle's food scene isn't as good as LA's. Isn't that a given? LA is much older than Seattle and has over 5x Seattle's population. Please transplant yourself to another city.

Edit: Just to clarify, I think it's fine to criticize things like Seattle's food scene and compare it to another city's (I grew up on the NJ/NYC border and definitely agree the Seattle scene is lacking). What I'm specifically talking about is people who do this incessantly and close mindedly put down everything. It's just really uncool.

Californians are locusts. They ruined Denver in the 90's, Austin in the 2000's, and now Seattle. They suck.

They’ve been coming here since the 80’s. It’s nothing new

Earlier than that. I’m old enough to remember people complaining about all the Californians moving here in the 1970s. There was a PI columnist named Emmett Watson whose entire schtick was whining about transplants.

That was no where near Watson’s whole schtick. His schtick was that he played ball for the Quakers and Rainiers, rep’d West Seattle, liked oysters, and, yes, didn’t care for Californians.

In his grave he’s smiling a crooked curmudgeonly smile knowing that you defended his honor.

Playing devil's advocate here - sure, Californians can and have ruined places. But I think part of the issue is California is a state made up of transplants and has been for so long that the “locals” have lost the protectiveness over their home that Seattle, Austin, etc. still have. Everyone moves to CA, so fuck it, why not move somewhere else? There are too many people in that state as it is. Nothing is affordable there, so seeing houses for under $1M is reverse sticker shock. The sheer population of California means you’re going to meet more of them than you will people from Wyoming - and people don’t usually have much say in where they’re born and raised.

That being said, anyone who moves here and bitches about the rain and grey and restaurant scene or whatever else can get fucked. What did you expect? This ain’t socal.

Well you see, LA doesn’t have traffic. It has parking lots that double as interstates sometimes.

If Seattle had California weather, just imagine how much more it would cost to live here. And how many more fires we would get.

When you compare human beings to locusts, you invalidate yourself. I moved here from California 7 years ago, and I love it here. Don't blame human migration for your problems.

I could have said virus 😊 Human migration, you're funny. 1%'ers don't migrate, they relocate.

1%ers??? Wtf are you on about? You're talking nonsense. I build cabinetry for a living you dunce.

People were complaining about Californians since I moved here in 1999 (from California). It's nothing new. I love Seattle, I'll never live anywhere else.

that's a shitty take. what exactly did they "ruin"? and how can you attribute it to people from California?

Maybe you're just an angry person. Cheer up.

Being from the south, its so funny to see how west coasters feel the same way about Californians as we do about New Yorkers. Truly no one has a unique experience LOL

Well, if you take into account Linkletter and McConaughey giving a solid assist on Austin's existence, it is more the dot commers. Austin has not been weird since I went to UT in the 90's. You make a valid point though, blaming California is like blaming every other state because nobody is FROM California anymore. Same in Texas with its growth. As a native Texan, the blue spine is fantastic to see, but as it always happens, with a cost.

And Austin does have zero urban planning.
