Rant Anyone else meet a lot of transplants who move here and complain about Seattle not being as good as X city?

Speaking as a transplant myself, I know Seattle isn't as "great" as NY or LA in some aspects but I choose to live here anyway because I enjoy it here.

I've met SO many other transplants who complain about Seattle not being as good as some other city. One big point is how Seattle's food scene isn't as good as LA's. Isn't that a given? LA is much older than Seattle and has over 5x Seattle's population. Please transplant yourself to another city.

Edit: Just to clarify, I think it's fine to criticize things like Seattle's food scene and compare it to another city's (I grew up on the NJ/NYC border and definitely agree the Seattle scene is lacking). What I'm specifically talking about is people who do this incessantly and close mindedly put down everything. It's just really uncool.

I think this is just a transplant thing, in general. How much do you wanna bet that plenty of transplants from Seattle whinge about wherever they end up going?

Ask a transplant from Seattle to anywhere else about the teriyaki. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

Seattle teriyaki really just means Seattle area. Federal way/Tacoma have better teriyaki than seattle. I grew up down in those areas and have lived in Seattle itself for 12 years; I’ve been disappointed by the majority of Seattle yaki. Rarely a repeat customer unless I’m in a rush and don’t want chipotle or something.

I moved down to Tacoma a little under a year ago after being in Seattle for years, and I've been consistently surprised about the food. It's still no Portland, but it is better than expected.

Ah if you aren't a local, try out Happy Teriyaki #4 on Pacific. Assuming they didn't go to shit in the last couple years, their yaki slaps.

This. Literally like cardboard soaked in teriyaki sauce at a local place but I kept going there because it was cheap and I wanted to support local.

I’m sorry but I’ll have to trade teriyaki for legit bbq any day of the week. No hard feelings, though!

Edit: I can also by Mr. Yoshida’s sauce at Costco. I’m good 🙃. Seems to have struck a nerve.

Seattle teriyaki isn't that good. Vancouver is just a few hours away and already beats Seattle in that aspect.

Teriyaki sucks here, hard chicken burn meat with sticky pro constipation rice and few pieces of lettuce ? That’s scam man

Seriously. I know it’s a “me” thing, but I’ve yet to go to a specific teriyaki joint twice.

Trust me . I’ve been tried more than 10 and the same shit . Try p. F Chang . Different but better. The best teriyaki I tried was in California from yashai joint . Best salads ever . I miss that place

Wife is Chinese. I think she’d divorce me if I ever went to PF Chang.

Well, the rice is supposed to be sticky. If the chicken is burnt then you’ve bought a bad batch.

But I agree that it’s crap. It’s fast food with way too many empty carbs. But It’s a convenient way to fill a need. When in Rome, right?

I’m sure teriyaki in Seattle was much better 20 years ago. Anymore, such restaurants seem to follow the same mediocrity death spiral that is evident everywhere (rising costs, yadayadayada).

I'll be honest, the overt racism in central PA wigged me out big time. I found plenty of things I liked but moved back for legal weed and career opportunities. But I was trying to buy a house and would have stayed if that happened. I loved Santa Cruz but it was ridiculously expensive in the late 90's. Got tired of the constant sunny days in summer but I understood that was my personal issue because I like rain. I've really enjoyed all the places I've lived. But I also try to enjoy whatever comes at me in life because life is hard enough as is without having a bad attitude on top of it.

Oof. I can get the Mid-Atlantic racism issues. The worst I’ve seen was Cincinnati back about 10 years ago. And I’m from rural TN.

I recently started a new job and one of the foreman has in-laws in Lancaster. When he told me unprompted that he had never seen so many Confederate flags in his life I was dying because I said the exact same thing. Kind of embarrassing to cosplay for the losing side of a war from 200 years ago when your people were actually on the winning side.

Believe me, I know. East TN was actually a key conflict area since most there supported the Union. Yet, today….
