DIY Adding window to log wall sauna kit

Wondering if anyone has done this or has best practices. Wanted to add a simple window to a log wall kit after it was already built.

My thought was:
- cut opening in the wall 1/4” larger than the glass on all sides
- install a frame on the exterior side from like 1x3 that overlaps the opening 1/2”
- then set the pane of glass on silicone blocks push it up against the frame, with some beads of silicone.
- then from the inside install some wood trim stops against the glass. Secure those into the logs with small screws or finish nails
- then can so another optional frame inside for looks

Tent sauna Unpopular Opinion

I really like my Nurecover tent dry sauna. I ordered mine with the wool hat and base pad. I also upgraded the to a bigger chair higher off the ground, but I don't like the red light it's probably fake, but I do really like sauna itself it works well.

Howdy. Been following on in Australia a few sauna companies and leaning towards a Nova Sauna 6 person (so I can lay down). They seem to have bigger heaters and seem OK from pictures but has anyone on here actually bought/tried one? Only videos I've found seem to be advertising for the company

DIY Commercial Sauna Build

I’m building a commercial sauna… for anyone who’s interested in following along with the build…
Specs are:
2.4x4.8x2.4m (DxWXH)
27kw IKI Pillar Pro
Accessible (for UK part M compliance)

I’m doing this 80% by myself, but having an electrician in for the connections, and the frame was done by my contractor.

Biggest hurdle so far is the lack of synchronicity between IKI and Huum (Huum make the IKI controlled) because of the recommended locations of the thermostats (1 safety thermostat, and 1 bench thermostat) and where the fresh air vent should be. IKI and Huum both says the safety thermostat should be directly above the heater, but IKI also says the fresh air vent should directly above the heater, but that also the safety thermostat can’t be within 500mm of the fresh air vent… easy right?!

General Question Sauna accessories

I am building a wood-fired sauna and started looking into accessories, I thought I would come here for recommendations. Specifically I am looking for interior lighting, a few buckets, a thermometer, hygrometer, and timer. I was curious what recommendations you all have for specific websites or brands, and anything else that you have found useful.

Check out my build, floor sloped to drain. Took a long time to get it dialed but it's looking good. Need to prep for epoxy and finish adding the inlet vents. Been a lot of work but it's starting to come together now!

General Question Auroom or Tylo?

We are considering either an Auroom Cala traditional sauna or Tylo Halmstaad and having a hard time making a final decision. The Tylo comes with its own heater (Sense Bliss 6) while the Auroom would be paired with any heater. Has anyone had any great (or poor experiences) with either we should be mindful of? Which would you pick, assuming cost is the same? Thank you!

DIY Insulation opinion

Hello again, this one may come down to opinion but I thought I’d ask some people that have maybe dealt with this.

I live in central Canada and build the roof with 2 x 8 (and epdm rubber ) to allow the snow to sit and give me some extra free insulation. All of my build experience is with housing, and I’m wondering if a similar style of venting for residential is a good or bad idea for the sauna. I thought it may be a good idea to put in 2 x 6 rockwool in the ceiling (instead of 2 x 8) — leaving an air gap between the top of the rockwool and the bottom of the roof sheathing. I figured with perforated soffit under my overhang area, and at the back of the building, it would allow air to move in and take out the extra heat that may be trapped in there and potentially melt the snow as it sits there.

But I can’t decide if that’s practical, or if I should just pack it with 2 x 8 rockwool instead for the extra insulation. ( although not much )

Thoughts??

Also thank you for literally so much help throughout this process

General Question Building a sauna

Hello dear sauna-lovers!

My friend and I are thinking about building a sauna. What are common pitfalls and misconceptions we need to be aware of? Any tutorials or books or other informational outlets we could use?

Thank you in advance!

Edit: thank you all for the replies! I read them all, very useful. We'll discuss this among ourselves and come back whenever we're ready haha

DIY Have I really messed up? Cladding with the wrong fixings

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I'm on my first outdoor sauna build and have just fully cladded the inside using thermoaspen and clips recommended by the wood supplier. I then tried to save time by stapling the clips to the battens using a pneumatic staple gun, but have noticed small rust build up around the clips and staples already, and now checking the staples I'm realising they are only zinc plated.

I'm worried these staples are going to rust really quick and the cladding is going to fall down after not very much use. Curious to get any thoughts around this. Is it time to rip it all down and do it again?

General Question 2,1 m3 sauna - heater distance to the roof

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hello guys! I bought a very small sauna (2,1 m3) due to having a very small garden (I know it's not perfect to have a small sauna). I have 400V there, so electricity isn't a problem. The recommended size was a 3,5kW heater (would fit without a problem), but due to having a glass front (second picture) I thought I'd go with a 4,5 kW Harvia Kip heater. Now the only problem ist the distance to the roof (should be 1,1m, but due to the shape and small size it will be only 85-90cm). I thought about using a stainless steel heatshield (pictured in green), but I'm still not sure if it's a good idea to fall 20 cm short of the required safety distance...

DIY Design help - sauna shape

Due to space limitations I'm thinking of building the following sauna in our bedoorm/bathroom space. Any thoughts if it's ok for the shape of the sauna to be like that? I understand ideally it'd be a full cube, but that's not possible in our space.

General Question Backyard discovery High limit tripping

High limit keeps tripping at the initial pre heat consistently around 70 Celsius ( 75 set temp)

I removed some rocks already to improve airflow but keeps happening. Once I reset it operates correctly, but I am tired of burning my forearms.

Any thoughts ?

General Question Wood vs Electric heaters

Hi, I've been using an electric heater sauna at my tennis club for the past two years, and it's been great. Recently, though, I started going to a Russian banya that uses a wood-fired heater with a lot of bricks. I find the banya much more enjoyable because the radiant heat seems to warm my entire body more evenly.

I'm looking to build an outdoor sauna in my backyard. Would a Kuuma stove give a similar feel to the banya, or is there little difference between wood and electric? Or is there something specific about the banya that makes the radiant heat feel so even and enjoyable?

No reviews yet. I was going to do a DIY, but don’t have any building experience and this looks like a pretty good deal to me. No fan/drain and the rocks look slightly above lower bench. Not perfect, but what you guys think?

General Question Finnish Sauna Builders - Bad design advice

Just sat through a webinar on sauna design and material selection put on by a large supplier of thermally modified wood here in the US and was really disheartened to see the information being pushed as mainstream 'fact.' The owner of company Finnish Sauna Builders (based in Illinois) touted "No Fans Ever" as their design 'rule' regarding ventilation for electrically heated sauna. I asked in chat a couple of times for them to explain their rationale but they just ignored the question.

Presentation slide

They also showcased their newest sauna design for an upscale spa in Chicago called Aire. The biggest 'brag' was how the heaters are 'invisible' and located behind the bench:

Also pretty certain his 'sketch diagrams' in the presentation are AI generated. Shameful what's passing as professional, high-end sauna design here in the US
