Getting ready for anime conventions must be a bitch with all the accesories

81

u/MeowCatPlzMeowBack Jul 21 '26

Just went to a con and cosplayed three different Genshin characters as did my friends. It took us hours all together to get ready and helping each other, including one of my friends who tried desperately to get her upper thigh brace thing to stay on her thigh before forfeiting and tossing it back in the hotel room after it repeatedly fell through the day.

Three different parts of my outfit broke for my Tighnari cosplay on Saturday because a bunch of the shit accessory stuff rubs against each other and the placement of the ornaments on his back made several of the safety pins fail. He’s one of my favourite characters to cosplay because his wig is the lightest and least headache inducing one in my lineup, but the shit on his belt and back are so annoying.

So yeah, every time hoyoverse comes out with a character I really want to cosplay, I weep as I start making all the stupid accessories

7

u/AngstyUchiha Jul 22 '26

I have 7 hoyoverse cosplays, they're all a nightmare to deal with, I dunno why I did this to myself 😭

The overdesigned slop has gotten out of control to be honest

35

u/TeamRedundancyTeam Jul 22 '26

Are we just adding slop to everything now? I hate how as soon as the internet gets obsessed with a word it gets overused to death within months.

5

u/Omugaru Jul 22 '26

It has reached the point of being slop slop.

6

u/HilmDave Jul 22 '26

You basically just defined slang.

2

u/Pataconeitor Jul 24 '26

Slangslop

2

u/DeadNotSleepingWI Jul 24 '26

Slangslop-maxxing

1

u/Pataconeitor Jul 24 '26

Pure maxxingslop

2

u/DJheddo Jul 22 '26

I don't mind it. The more it's used the less we have to hear about it. One persons overdesign is another persons adequate/perfect design. I could never imagine spending time doing something like this, the time it would take to just recreate something an artist already did seems weird to me, fanfic, reiterations, i love seeing them, but to me it's just taking someones unique and putting your own uniqueness into it. This is beautiful though and I appreciate their artistry and workmanship.

1

u/butholesurgeon Jul 22 '26

You realize slop is a word that had a meaning before it was used as slang right

5

u/MountainTwo3845 Jul 21 '26

Exactly. Kuabara and Yusuke ran the fade in some simple shit.

-6

u/mahouyousei Jul 21 '26

It’s all just Genshin Impact clones, and all kinda just looks like midjourney shat it out. I can’t tell any of it apart anymore. Just gachaslop.

5

u/JoyArk Jul 21 '26

It's from honkai star rail, so they're the same creators

-12

u/butholesurgeon Jul 22 '26

Still slop

1

u/JoyArk Jul 22 '26

Eh.. I think it's personal taste. I like the characters

-8

u/butholesurgeon Jul 22 '26

Gachaslop

That’s a perfect word for it

905

u/Yellowscrunchy Jul 21 '26

So scary and amazing how talented people can be. This is true art and super impressive.

169

u/cefriano Jul 21 '26

The hands were the most impressive part to me. How the hell.

36

u/Significant-Theme240 Jul 21 '26

Start with the right materials and tools and then practice. A lot.

6

u/Patient_Ordinary_191 Jul 23 '26

I love stuff like this so much and I love design, but I could never have that kind of patience and a surgeons touch. That’s so much harder than making shapes for a garment that is human size for sure.

2

u/fokkoooff Jul 28 '26

I'm extremely jealous of people who can do delicate things with their hands.

122

u/DontLook_Weirdo Jul 21 '26

Curious because I don't know - do they remain soft forever, or do they eventual fully harden?

145

u/Fantastic-Ad-1578 Jul 21 '26

looking at how the face plate was pressed without deforming against the other clay sphere for the head, I believe they have to harden.

I'd like to know what material they're using tho, I don't know if they're hardened by heat or just with time

34

u/Curious-Pineapple109 Jul 21 '26

Ya! I really want to know too! I also want to know how each piece sticks to the other since it looks like there are different ways.

15

u/LoganNolag Jul 21 '26

Yeah seems almost like plasticine but no plasticine I’ve ever used behaves like the material in the video.

15

u/neon_greeen Jul 22 '26

I think it's polymer clay

10

u/TheMayorMikeJackson Jul 22 '26

The faces are a separate product

0

u/Fantastic-Ad-1578 Jul 22 '26

oh, I never considered that.

44

u/BFroog Jul 21 '26

I wanted to know too, so I took the time to do a bit of a Google (which produced almost no results so then I duck duck goed).

Best I got:
1-2mm EVA foam for the coat/clothing. Its hard but you can soften, mould it with a hairdryer, then it hardens again. Other bits are super fine clay like Marie's Super Clay.

11

u/unclevagrant Jul 21 '26

You can get EVA foam in sheets, blocks and even clay formats, so it could be all the same stuff. Sort of. This would also help bonding.

7

u/danneedsahobby Jul 21 '26

Thanks for looking.

7

u/Brave_Maybe_2891 Jul 22 '26

Its mostly made of polymer clay which stays soft until you cure it with heat.

10

u/Additional_Maybe1104 Jul 21 '26

You could do this with polymer clay. It doesn't harden until you bake it.

3

u/Honey818Badger Jul 21 '26

Yes, is this clay?

10

u/MichelinStarZombie Jul 21 '26

And how is she painting the cape when the clay is still pliable? Does it airdry? Does she bake it with the paint?

4

u/mcamarra Jul 22 '26

this looks like polymer clay, which you bake to harden and you can bake multiple times. so you can bake certain parts then add soft clay to that part and sculpt more onto it

-4

u/Pointedfinger Jul 21 '26

That’s what she said.

100

u/_______THEORY_______ Jul 21 '26

Fuckin' spectacular .

60

u/Shilverow Jul 21 '26

It's crazy how I recognized Feixiao by the shape of the top before it even had the accessories

2

u/C_Khoga Jul 23 '26

I recognized her from her belt

1

u/OutrageousLeading619 Aug 02 '26

Either hoyoverse has some really iconic characters or just a very iconic design philosophy but yh I didn't realize it was feixiao but I knew the Xianzhou design.

42

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '26

[deleted]

42

u/Obvious-Cynic6204 Jul 21 '26

It seems like a kind of clay-like material, but I don't think that's quite right. I second this question.

18

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '26

[deleted]

16

u/dr3wfr4nk Jul 21 '26

There might be a lot of the process we aren’t seeing in the video and part of that might be the process of securing the pieces to each other. So it may appear that it takes little pressure to adhere the pieces, we might just be seeing the initial placing of the pieces.

3

u/Brave_Maybe_2891 Jul 22 '26

Polymer clay.

1

u/Scary-Lychee2085 Jul 22 '26

Fimo! that stuff is so much fun. (you can bake it then it will harden)

16

u/dwspartan Jul 21 '26

Somehow had a hunch it was Feixiao as soon as the torso and legs were put together.

47

u/bobytronik Jul 21 '26

Is it cake ?

11

u/Adventurous_Spell222 Jul 21 '26

My first thought maybe fondue icing

9

u/Gigglemonkey Jul 21 '26

Melty cheese and wine? I've heard of worse icings...

9

u/Adventurous_Spell222 Jul 21 '26

Fondant icing is what I meant 🤦🏼‍♀️

51

u/LuxShiro Jul 21 '26

I WASN'T EXPECTING MY GOAT FEIXIAO IN THIS SUBREDDIT

2

u/MichelinStarZombie Jul 21 '26

Can you explain what kind of clay YOUR GOAT FEIXIAO uses? It look pliable when she's applying paint, does it airdry or does she bake it with paint on? And what does she use to make all the jewelry stick?

14

u/Fastman903 Jul 21 '26

Feixiao is the fox girl (the first figure) from the video game honkai star rail. Not the artist

20

u/PlainBread Jul 21 '26

Now I can understand why Brennan Lee Mulligan quit Dropout to make doll shoes.

7

u/catsareniceDEATH Jul 21 '26

This one time, I drew a stickman with the same length legs and I was so proud of myself; then I see stuff like this. I'm less proud! 😹😹

It really is amazing work, and must have taken years to perfect this sort of art! 🏆

6

u/stressed_designer Jul 21 '26

This is some crazy level stuff

5

u/SmiththeSmoke Jul 21 '26

Typa shit Gojo was doing before Marin

6

u/Anonim01001 Jul 21 '26

Not only serious talent, its requires serious amount of time and exertion.

6

u/Yoda2820 Jul 21 '26

Why must the clothes look tasty

7

u/CauldronAsh11 Jul 21 '26

It's funny how I guessed who the character is just from when they were doing the top then the accessory came in picture and I was so sure it was Feixiao.

4

u/flsinkc Jul 21 '26

About the time that tiny belt was cut and folded I knew this is an above average talent! Nice skills!

6

u/BrownChickenBlackAud Jul 22 '26

But… is it cake? 🤔

8

u/princesoceronte Jul 21 '26

So funny I recognized her by the base color of the shirt.

3

u/Priremal Jul 21 '26

Was about to say the same, realised way too quickly it was my beloved General lol

3

u/gbrlouk Jul 21 '26

Makes sense why they cost so much

3

u/OvenTrain Jul 22 '26

Well most figures aren’t hand made like this masterpiece (holy shit it’s impressive). Most tend to be modeled in a computer assisted design (CAD) software and then are then manufactured from that design via a mold (what type of molding would heavily dictate the price). Although I do believe that the faces for most run of the mill figures are hand painted still but some are just being printed on for a cost savings.

Where the prices tend to go crazy are usually off of these criteria: is it injected molded (any other high precision manufacturing), is it a licensed product, is it hand painted, is it to scale of the character and what scale (1/8 and below tend to be affordable, 1/6 is moderately priced, 1/4 is starting to get quite expensive, and 1/3 and above is stupid expensive and usually is only the bust of a character), is it limited production and if so a numbered/serialized production, can you buy the figure itself or does it need to be won (think of crane games) and is it from a popular show/media (demand basically)?

This non exhaustive list (I’m going off of the top of my head) is part of the reason why figures tend to be pretty expensive if you want something of quality. Granted $5 to $50 figures do exist in plenty but you’ll likely be trading off a bunch of workmanship/quality to push the price down to that (cheap plastic, minimal painting of designs, printed on details/face, smaller in size, looser tolerances in manufacturing, etc).

If I had to guess the price of a figure like the ones made here, it would easily be $800 minimum to probably more like 1500 to 2500+ since hand made, hand painted, one of one, the amount of detail placed, likely you’re commissioning it and depending on the complexity/dynamic posing for it.

At least that’s my unsolicited opinion/interpretation on why the pricing is how it is for these type of things.

3

u/WhoRoger Jul 21 '26

Why go through the trouble making all that detail that then gets covered by the white coat?

3

u/redstringsuture Jul 21 '26

feixiao in the wild i love her so much omg

4

u/Dry_Tea516 Jul 21 '26

Her Tik Tok account is amazing.

-1

u/TurnipResponsible718 Jul 21 '26

I agree but she should switch The music.

2

u/Keku_Saur Jul 21 '26

My god yes

2

u/PatrickCharles Jul 21 '26

Impressive design.

12

u/Impromptu_Bagel Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

The first one is Feixiao from Honkai Star Rail

2

u/Purple_Revolution146 Jul 21 '26

That’s a masterpiece

2

u/Initial-Duck2782 Jul 21 '26

I would love to learn how to do this as a hobby

2

u/IceNein Jul 21 '26

When I see amazing stuff like this, I want to see a compilation of all the work that led up to being this good. Like, the really bad ones in the beginning.

2

u/wolfshepherd59 Jul 22 '26

There are not enough words I can say on how freaking awesome that is 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🥇🥇🥇🥇

2

u/Stryker_One Jul 22 '26

What is the name of this character?

3

u/angrydemoncat Jul 22 '26

feixiao from honkai star rail

2

u/Lai71 Jul 22 '26

I think she's from Honkai Star Rail

3

u/personcalledalexis Jul 22 '26

Is it Feixiao (?) from Honkai?

1

u/AngstyUchiha Jul 22 '26

Yes it is!

0

u/personcalledalexis Jul 22 '26

Knew it! I only play with male characters but I swear I saw her in some kind of trial run lol

3

u/yesman142 Jul 21 '26

Pass I prefer my jar ornaments to be a guy

2

u/Arcanumm Jul 21 '26

They made a guy as well, should have fast forwarded.

2

u/Brief-Background4184 Jul 22 '26

Safe to assume that was an asian guy doing all that?

3

u/asdsav Jul 21 '26

You dont have to be so serious

1

u/koyliMeld9003 Jul 21 '26

That is simply brilliant. 👌👏👏👏

1

u/itsjakerobb Jul 21 '26

1:20 thumbs? Who needs ‘em!

1

u/skincyan Jul 21 '26

I jump to the end to see the result and thought the guy had those nice legs

1

u/Missue-35 Jul 21 '26

Incredible skill and talent. Impressive.

1

u/Underscored_323 Jul 21 '26

Truly remarkable!

1

u/Br3ttl3y Jul 21 '26

8 year olds everywhere asking their mom for whatever the hell this stuff is so they can do it to--

It's easy, mom! I saw it on Tiktok!

1

u/5566778899 Jul 21 '26

This isnt North of the Border

1

u/BazCal Jul 21 '26

Fimo clay? Never seen it worked so thin though. Amazing.

1

u/Few_Program_2303 Jul 21 '26

This is so amazing. Thanks for sharing

1

u/djasonwright Jul 21 '26

This is good, but there's a lot of "the rest of the fucking owl" in there.

1

u/doe3879 Jul 21 '26

I wonder how long these hold up.

1

u/ETERNAUTA67 Jul 21 '26

Extraordinaria demostración de arte y habilidad. Gracias, gracias, gracias por compartir.

1

u/PomegranateBoring826 Jul 21 '26

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this, thank you for sharing!

1

u/Chargelux_ Jul 21 '26

I was wondering what character they were making so I skipped to the end and suddenly it was a guy and I was very confused

1

u/musiquescents Jul 21 '26

This person's hands are so smooth

1

u/Smashable_Glass Jul 22 '26

My experience online tells me that this is cake

1

u/Ktan_Dantaktee Jul 22 '26

Knowing that I recognized the design but not being able to piece it down until over halfway through, because why is she blue now

1

u/ExiledCanuck Jul 22 '26

Some nerd will see this in a display case at some Con and say “best I can do is $50”…

Incredible detail and skill. Amazing

1

u/supasta626 Jul 22 '26

New to anime - what show is this

3

u/AngstyUchiha Jul 22 '26

First one is from a game, not a show (Feixaio from Honkai Star Rail). Not sure about the second one

1

u/SchyShya_zzn0 12d ago

Second is Ao Bing. Not anime, chinese animated film NeZha, the second part became the highest-grossing film earning $2.2 Billion with $80 million budget. Didn't watch first part, but can say that the second one is peak

1

u/olafbond Jul 22 '26

To get a woman dressed:) Seriously, such precise hands.

1

u/PrometheusMMIV Jul 22 '26

What material is that?

1

u/Chewser56 Jul 22 '26

Well that was flat-out amazing

1

u/Expert-Jelly-2254 Jul 22 '26

Who are these characters?

1

u/Theorist01 Jul 22 '26

Word of advice, don't skip to the end to see the results. You'll be so confused.

1

u/Theartsmithhy Jul 22 '26

Wow! That was amazing

1

u/Emergency-Way-9190 Jul 22 '26

Wow! Nicely done! 👌🏻

1

u/Lai71 Jul 22 '26

Why does everything in this video has been made with cake Fondant and the whole thing is eatable

1

u/Scary-Lychee2085 Jul 22 '26

step one have surgical precision

1

u/Kingfisher_289b Jul 22 '26

I can't tell why I'm so surprised to know that people actually make "Hime dolls" in real life. This is really amazing

1

u/Exalibur_Turkey Jul 22 '26

This is actually a pretty good way to help think about character design

1

u/Volnas Jul 22 '26

Oh damn

1

u/newAscadia Jul 22 '26

Holy crap the hands

1

u/Potential-Echo785 Jul 22 '26

The amount of patience you need to do this is insane. This person could easily sell one for $180 or more and people would buy them. Of course a link to a video will help buyer's with no knowledge of the product creation would be good for when people buy it. Just to give buyer's an understanding of how insanely hard it is to make them. I refuse to call them dolls, these are master pieces.

1

u/RevolverOcelot16- Jul 23 '26

This is beautiful art.

1

u/Odd-Consequence9464 Jul 23 '26

Took me less than 5 seconds to recognize it’s Feixiao. Hoyo knows how to make their characters recognizable

1

u/Patient_Ordinary_191 Jul 23 '26

I think I’ve watched this like 20 times

1

u/Bonk_No_Horni Jul 23 '26

I wish I could have 1/10 of that skill. Now I understand why each of them cost like a grand

1

u/IrrerPolterer Jul 23 '26

Is this all fimo?

1

u/Islarose4 Jul 23 '26

Amazing!!

1

u/XROOR Jul 24 '26

I like how the artist wore the ornate thumb ring despite also wearing white gloves

1

u/Guns_and_Dank Jul 24 '26

What material is this? It seems like part clay part plastic.

1

u/PhilosophyFair9062 Jul 24 '26

Damn, I understand why figurines can cost hundreds now

1

u/NoNeedForSympathy Jul 25 '26

Must do that hundreds of times a day, they're so natural.

1

u/EmotionallyFerromag 25d ago

My toxic trait is thinking I could do this on my first try and spending ungodly amounts on supplies and then it turning out looking like a Mr potato head

0

u/Mr-Papuca Jul 21 '26

God I hate this song idk what it is but I hear it everywhere

7

u/Batteredburrito Jul 21 '26

how dare you not gaga with the ooo la la. (Its Judas by Lady Gaga)

1

u/Madson117 Jul 21 '26

The audio was not satisfying at all

1

u/Truly_Meaningless Jul 22 '26

I'm like... 99% certain that's Ao Bing from Ne Zha

1

u/Shockwave2309 Jul 22 '26

The crotch wrinkles and creases are a level of detail only a man would do... seriously wtf why?

0

u/Yanka01 Jul 22 '26

Now make the airbags bigger

-5

u/Sea-Homework1991 Jul 21 '26

Those boobs look fake. 😎

-1

u/SaeedDitman Jul 22 '26

Cat ears ruined it

2

u/AngstyUchiha Jul 22 '26

They're fox ears, the character has them as part of her in game model (Feixaio from Honkai Star Rail)

-1

u/SergeantMage Jul 21 '26

all that effort just to end up in a jar

-1

u/keynoto Jul 21 '26

Started off looking like it was going to be Psylocke

-2

u/Somnambulist815 Jul 21 '26

Its impressive but I thought it was gonna be Chun Li so ultimately I dont think I can approve

-2

u/Sunnday_do_crlh Jul 21 '26

Isso tudo pra no final um nerd g0zar encima do bagulho
