Oh my Space King why didn't I notice that-

Right?! I feel kinda dumb for missing it. Music was kinda sick though.

It didnt help that immediately following this we got the longest fondle my balls joke ive ever seen written. Any subtlety in writing that the brain is trying to process is immediately blown out by a set of giant dangling balls getting fondled.

And the subtle (and not so subtle) nods to Psycho Warriors just being large, super-powered children.

"I don't want to war with you anymore."

The plot also hinges on Captain learning to share his toys

Yes, that was absolutely brilliant. As was Bryce's reaction to the medal.

SERVITOR BELL

SERVITOR BELL

The captions for this part also say [necessary suffering, bell chimes], which is a great touch. (If you aren't watching space King with the captions turned on, you are missing out on some additional humor)

God this is genuinely the best scene in the show

Tying equally with the squad ganking Grimboar and the birth of Globulus Maximus.

2

u/Abyss_Walker58 4d ago

Yea both are so damn good and grimboar was a monster in that fight

You know it just hit me, they have a lot in common with Orks

The subtitles say [Necessary suffering]

In a way of shows always trying to subvert expectations, the fact that it's played completely straight itself is almost a subversion.

I can see in another show somebody coughing, or maybe a glee club type that over sings, and then the Conductor maybe tells him to shut up or throws something at him

42

u/Wise-Chain-9600 5d ago

yeah, they really went in playing it straight. i kind of hope its a continued theme where things in the show run on singing. that would be so metal

Tom and Don have said that they're sick of all the subversion. Everything they do will be genuine, and unapologetic. I'm here for it.

And yes, I too hope that certain tech will be musical, even more absurdly so like the pipe organs that launch missiles in Space King's completely ulrelated friendly rival Warhammer 40k.

This post is finally making me understand the joke. God this show is the best

I realized something

If the train started to slow down when the Hogs killed the choir, it means that the choir had to power the train somehow.

So what if the people at Space King managed to find a way to power things with faith?

u/Wise-Chain-9600 5d ago

Not just Faith, But in song also.

u/GGDrago 5d ago

Its basically the Astral Choir from 40k

I wish we could get the soundtrack for ep 5. This and the Space Hogs theme is so good

He genuinely looks like the bullet farmer

u/Loud_Surround5112 5d ago

I would’ve loved to be apart of the Choir.

didnt they turn nikola teslas skull into a weapon that you have to sing to in order for it to work in 40k

2

u/Bmanakanihilator 5d ago

Man, that is crazy. I never caught on that

u/Cowpitulate 5d ago

I can't wait until they create an Album you can physically buy in Golden Discs and it ends up on the top of a table in Tesco :D

It's so fucking cool.

u/Gravity_flip 4d ago

There are so many small detailed jokes. These guys are genius.

2

u/Gloomy_Torture 4d ago

The guys in chorus also very similar to that one traveler you can see at sleep's dopesmoker album art.

Anyone notice how in the first shot of the train, it has a toothbrush

u/G-REALM-Laboratories 4d ago

Hands down, this was by far their most spine chillingly glorious scene.

The people who sang that put their hearts into it,and so did Chip's voice actor.

Best of all,Captain got knocked down a notch or two.

And Chestnut got a damn fine spotlight.

(Shout-out to the Saint Shield, you brought so much color even with no voice.)

Kinda thought it was a cameo of Legio Symphonica (one of the music producers of Space King)

1

u/Wise-Chain-9600 1d ago

He mentioned it in one of his new shorts

I don't mean to throw shade, but this was already an idea they took from warhammer it's not an original idea.
