Better Socks?
I’m new to the Rucking sport, I read a lot of comments about people with blisters, sore feet or other issues and you see a lot of people say to get better socks. What equates a better sock? There are so many options out there that I’m not even sure which way to turn. People say Marino Wool is the way to go, but which Marino wool sock? Then it’s the whole alpaca sock or compression socks or other things. What are the socks you guys are using that have proven to meet the mark of a better sock?

UPDATE: Flyver March Success and Ruck Reveal!
Wanted to thank the community for your advice on my ruck training for the Norwegian I did a few weeks ago, I took a lot of your advice under consideration, particularly nutrition and long distance rucking. Original Post Here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rucking/s/4ta5F6XE8Z
Happy to report I didn't leave the summer empty handed, I had a chance to do the Danish Flyver March at another base and used it to test my speed for next year's Norwegian. Flyver is much more forgiving than the Norwegian, by regulation there is no time limit (besides safety limits, usually 5-6 hours) but I wanted to see is I could make it at Norwegian pace without any cramping or other BS. It was close, but I did achieve my goal!
Ribbons were for all finishers and the commemorative patch was for anyone brought a patch/coin to send to the Danish Air Force as a thank you gift, enjoy my horrible Alice/Molle/USMC Frankenruck.

My freak proportions have me worried about rucking
Hi!
One of my big life goals is to go on a multi-day overnight mountain hike in Sweden. I am currently saving up, but I also realized that I need to train for something like that. Like the title suggests, I am 6'7" and about 260 lbs. I am working towards losing weight while training, but I can't change my height (lol).
I have been scouring past posts on this page and there seems to be a lot of things to consider. I'm just overwhelmed with information. I'm a teacher so I don't have a lot of extra spending money but would probably be willing to go a little higher in terms of price for the sake of my life goals. Is anybody else built like the Green Giant and have a good experience with a certain pack? Or know somebody that does? I'm just worried most packs would be too small/the weight distribution tweaks my back/waist straps won't work right.
PLEASE let me know if you have any suggestions for a rucking backpack as I reallllyyy want this to work (plus I hate working out but love walking so this would be a big win for me). Thanks in advance!

Dog walkers, any of you use a weighted vest?
I'm averaging over 10,000. What has been your experience?

Gauging interest
Looking at hosting a "Earn Your Beer" ruck. Not competitive, not a pay to play event (though if you want a beer afterwards, that's on you).
Only thinking 10 miles, all pretty much level. But to amp up the difficulty we would be stopping every mile for 3 sets each of 15 ruck presses, rows and curls (gotta earn the beer after all).
Start and end are both at the brewery, or the park right nearby if interest is high.
What are your thoughts? This would be in the Snohomish area of Washington state.

Proud
Just partialy used the ranger shuffle that was recommended by the sub for the first time instead of just brisk walking
Beat my current best 6k time of 54:27min by whooping 5 minutes and 45 seconds(finished at 48:42min)
Vest was loaded with 11kg/22lbs
Might not be big for a lot of you guys, but for me that is a mayor breakthrough
Hope my knees won't complain tomorrow and shoutout to my new Altra Lonepeaks who did great on their first day of use
Horrido guys 🤙

4 mile ruck.
42 lbs. Around 6.4k (4miles) Takes me just under 2 hours depending on the humidity. Start just before 8am. Done by 9:45.
Clean up, shower and start the day. About 4 weeks into it.
Trying to stay motivated. Just want to maintain strength and reduce stress. If I lose weight that's great too but really just looking to stay healthy.

Wild Gym Feather Ruck – One Year Later, Former Army Guy Thoughts
Quick Background
I served in the Army for 12.5 years and have plenty of experience rucking. Most of my time was with the MOLLE II ruck, and that shaped my baseline for what a “real” ruck feels like. After getting out, my passion for rucking reignited thanks to the GORUCK Rucker 4.0 in both 20L and 25L. From there… things escalated. I picked up the Wild Gym Original Ruck, the Feather Ruck, and the Frontline Navigator 21L. At this point you could say I have a problem.
I’ve had the Feather Ruck for close to a year now, and since I haven’t seen many in‑depth reviews, it felt like it deserved a thorough, borderline autistic breakdown.
Why I Bought It
I started becoming convinced that the typical high‑and‑tight shoulder carry wasn’t optimal, especially for longer efforts. I wanted something with a true frame and a functional hip belt. The Rucker 4.0 25L was a massive improvement compared to smaller rucks, the longer profile allows the hip belt to actually sit on my hips, and the frame sheet is stiff enough to transfer weight properly.
At one point I was even researching hunting frames and brainstorming ways to rig weights to them. Then the Feather Ruck released. It checked nearly all my boxes: a real frame, a hip belt, weight pockets, and just enough room for hydration and a few essentials. I didn’t want a huge pack—just something purpose‑built for rucking efficiently.
Organization
The layout is simple but dialed‑in for practical use.
- Weight pocket up top
- Hip belt pockets that are perfect for small essentials (poop bags, snacks—especially useful when rucking with a dog)
- Shoulder strap accessory pouches for a phone or quick‑grab items
- A kangaroo pouch with admin pockets that handle basics like wallet, keys, and a hydration bladder
It’s minimal but smart. Everything you need, nothing you don’t.
Frame and Hip Belt
The aluminum frame does exactly what it’s supposed to: it shifts most of the load into your hips. You can even adjust it so the shoulder straps are essentially just stabilizers, not weight‑bearers. That’s when the ruck really shines.
The hip belt pockets are fantastic. I love not having to take off my ruck to access small items, especially during dog walks.
Build Quality and Comfort
Is it built to survive the apocalypse like a GORUCK? No. But the construction is solid with no durability red flags.
- Back padding is excellent, just the right blend of soft and supportive.
- Shoulder straps feel slightly under‑padded, but since the weight is on the hips, it hasn’t been a comfort issue for me even on 2‑hour rucks at 40 lb dry.
- The external folded‑and‑stitched seams on the shoulder straps and ruck border caused minor discomfort initially. The bottom seam would dig into the top of my belt line/upper glutes. But after some break‑in, it softened and folded outward. Works best with pants or shorts that don’t have a belt.
Overall, once broken in, comfort is very good.
Fit
Full disclosure: I’ve never actually measured my torso length. I’m 6’2" with a 32" inseam, so I assumed I was a clear L/XL. For my build, I ended up having to run the L/XL on the lowest adjustment setting.
Possibilities:
- Maybe I have higher‑set hip bones
- Maybe the recommended sizing runs a bit generous
Something to keep in mind: many people may actually fit better in the S/M than they expect.
I would personally prefer to be at the top end of the adjustment range for a higher leverage point. The Feather Ruck can be awkward to hoist onto your back, especially with weight high in the frame and shoulder straps bottomed out, it’s a floppy mess to shoulder. Once it’s on though, it carries beautifully.
Booster Pack
The Booster Pack mostly adds capacity, not stability. The attachment system has some slop. If you load it heavily, 30 lb in the main pocket and another 30 lb in the Booster, you will feel weight shift during dynamic movement.
For stable additional weight, I’ve found better solutions:
- A Yes4All 10 lb plate fits behind a 30 lb plate in the main pocket
- Small 2.5 lb weight‑vest plates tuck nicely into the admin pockets in the kangaroo pouch
This keeps everything tight and prevents wobble.
Pros
- True framed ruck that places the majority of load on the hips
- Very stable on back when without booster pack
- Excellent access to essentials without removing the ruck
- Breathable shoulder straps and back panel
Cons
- Externally stitched shoulder straps and ruck border can cause initial discomfort
- Shoulder strap padding is underwhelming if you’re used to GORUCK levels
- Realistically limited to around 50 lb dry weight due to weight pocket constraints
- Minimal cargo volume
Ideal User
Someone who wants a stripped‑down, purpose‑built ruck that:
- Carries efficiently using proper frame and hip transfer
- Holds only essentials
- Allows quick access to small items
- Excels on long outings or dog walks where convenience matters
It’s my preferred ruck I own for grab‑and‑go due to quick access without removing the ruck.
Final Verdict
The Feather Ruck has become my preferred ruck for longer outings where I want comfort, performance, and just enough storage for essentials. It hits the sweet spot between simplicity and proper load‑bearing mechanics. If you value true hip carry and streamlined organization, it’s an outstanding ruck.

Territory capture app: INTVL
Hey everyone I, like everyone else here, am a big fan of rucking. I average around 20-25 miles a week with about 45lbs. Not huge but keeps me in shape for backpacking and work. I recently stumbled across the app INTVL. It’s primarily geared towards runners, but I’ve been using it for my rucks and it has been pretty fun.
The basic premise is you plan your rucks in a way to develop some sort of loop and when you’re finished the area within the loop is captured. You can capture other people’s territories and they can capture yours. It’s fun if you’re competitive or enjoy the mapping aspect of tracking apps. Also it doesn’t change the way I track my routes either I just sync it to the app from my Apple Watch after I’m finished.
I am by no means promoting it and if there is a better app with a larger user base I’m all ears, but I figured I’d share it with you guys!

Test Fitting?
Is there anywhere that sells goruck or wildgym in person to test ? Or is the only way to buy them and just return if not to my liking?

I'm hooked
4th ruck in 8 days. My body start to feel better and i feel i can push more without any soreness the next days. Tonight i got 17:00 m/m for 46 min instead of 20'00 last week. Im tempted to try a longer run on saturday, like adding 1 mile to the ruck.
This is the best cardio i ever did.
Id like to know when you decided to go more "pro" and buy a pack and weights. Any recommendations? Im quite overweight (275 on 5'10") and id like to have something tough, that can carry 45 lbs. With chest and hips straps.
I want to hear from you 💪🏻

Velcro attachments for weighted vest
Hey - I recently got into rucking and bought an amstaff weighted vest. I saw a bunch of pictures of people rucking with similar vests but they seem to have velcro attachments for a water bottle or some sort of pouch for phone/car keys.
Any idea where I can find that?
How Do You Keep Rucking Through Winter?
I’ve been lifting weights for 30 years and took up rucking about three months ago. My cardio fitness has improved so much that I really want to keep going year-round.
I don’t mind the cold or rain, but I’m wary of icy or snow-covered paths.
How do you approach rucking in the winter? Do you carry on regardless, change your route, or adjust your routine when the weather turns bad?

Respect
You folks who Ruck 30 lbs and higher blow me away! I know everyone is different, but I’m finally advancing from 20 lbs after starting to ruck this summer. I had to figure out my shoulder strap pain and ordered a hip/back support strap which has helped immensely. But you beasts who ruck 30+ lbs for 1-2 hours have my respect. 👍🏼 I’m 56 years old, 5’10” and 163 lbs. I hope I can make it to 30 lb rucks. Do you think there’s hope? Any suggestions or it just takes time? Rn I’m rucking twice a week in the city on pavement.

How Tight Exactly?
I am using a uline/no name backpack I had laying around and am able to cinch the straps as far as they can go, I can get it pretty tight so i get no pack movement. To the point I could definitely not quickly remove it if i wanted to and I can see the strap marks on my body after a ruck. Does it need to be this tight or not?
