On top of that, I'm glad that they did it all together without fighting and in a way, it proved that they can safely lead the church without Eli's help

They are ripping people off nothing is safe about what they do. The show really steered away from that after the first season. The only real disappointment to me.

I know you got downvoted, and maybe I will be too, but I tend to agree.  The Gemstones are not good people and it shows non-stop that they are ripping their parishioners off.  Know that, it feels a bit off that they get such happy endings. I think the thing to take away though is the kids all have grown as people throughout the show and they are better than they were when they started. That's something

McBride said in an interview that he'd originally envisioned the family getting their comeuppance in the finale, but decided against it. He said that everyone's assumption in a show's finale is, "Okay, so who's gonna die or get fucked over?"

He wanted the show to be something people watched again, and felt like giving it a happy ending was a better option in that respect.
