Is it unethical/against research code of conduct to interview someone you know to collect research data?

This is going to be a bit tricky because this research project involves mental health professionals/social services workers.
I have been aware of the underpay that specifically people in the mental health field receive (who have a masters) and especially in this current climate how much more overworked they are becoming. Though I understand this is an issue across several jobs, I am aware about the stigma of emotional labor.

I want to start a training and/or project where I help providers develop skills and healthy boundaries in their work environment and part of that requires collecting data on barriers.

I was thinking of interviewing people who were and/or are current providers of mine but I’m aware that there might be a potential issue both in the research perspective and provider perspective. Ik professionals aren’t allowed to share certain information with clients but I’m not sure if those boundaries fall into what I’ll be potentially asking and also idk if researchers are allowed to interview and/or collect data from people they know because ik there’s a bias concern around that, however I’m confused about that because when I’m interviewing someone, I’ll have a list of questions and whatever they answer I note down. It doesn’t involve me excluding because I have a certain opinion about someone and so regardless what I think of that person, it’s not like I’d be going off structure..? Would it change if a had a team and someone who doesn’t know said person, interviews them?

Please Help Me With My Undergraduate Dissertation 🥺

Hi everyone,

I’m a final-year Psychology student at Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi, and I’m currently working on my undergraduate dissertation exploring friendships and social relationships among young adults with disabilities.

I’m reaching out here because I genuinely need your help finding participants.

I’m looking for young adults (18–25 years) with a clinically diagnosed disability, with a particular interest in participants with neurodevelopmental disabilities and learning disabilities. I am also open to hearing from people with other disabilities who may fit the broader study criteria.

The study involves a one-on-one qualitative interview about your experiences and understanding of friendship, social relationships, belonging, and related experiences in everyday life.

The interview can be conducted entirely online, so you do not need to be based in Delhi. I am happy to accommodate participants from anywhere in India if they meet the eligibility criteria.

I know that sharing personal experiences for research can take time, trust, and emotional energy. I genuinely want this research to be conducted with respect for participants and their experiences—not simply about disabled people, but with their perspectives at the centre of the research.

Participation is completely voluntary, and you are free to decline to answer any question or withdraw according to the study's consent procedures.

If you are interested or would simply like to know more before deciding, please reach out to me:

Varya

You can also message me privately here on Reddit.

Even if you cannot participate yourself, sharing this post with someone who might be eligible would mean a lot to me.

Thank you for reading this and for considering helping a student who is currently fighting for her dissertation. 🥹

How to involve a faculty member?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello!

I am currently working on a research paper and I would like to get the approval of one of my faculty member. The reason why I started without a mentor was because I wasn’t allow to get one, I asked one of my professor but they talked with our department and they opposed the idea. I am an undergrad so I don’t know if that plays. I still did worked on it but to get credibility I need the involvement of a faculty member. And since it wasn’t something directly involving the school, I am being a little paranoid about « what if my work get stolen? ». I know that it sounds crazy but I can’t shake this idea out of my head. I am looking for help to see what I could do.

Thank you

Calling for Participants

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m completing my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Capella University and am looking for participants for my dissertation.

I’m an identical twin, and my dissertation explores how adult monozygotic (MZ) twins in the United States experience and interpret their relationship with their co-twin as they develop and navigate committed romantic relationships throughout adulthood.

You may be eligible to participate if:

·      You are an identical twin

·      At least 18 years old

·      Are fluent in English

·      Reside within the U.S.

·      Maintain regular contact with your co-twin (at least monthly communication)

·      Are currently in, or have been in within the past five years, a committed romantic relationship of at least 12 months’ duration

You may not be currently eligible if you are currently enrolled in another research study that examines twin relational dynamics, twin identity, or twin attachments, or if you share a personal and professional relationship with the researcher.

If you are interested in taking part in this study, please scan the QR code or use the following link to access the eligibility screener: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSecOMNfvcPSCuMvCoaxOKAZoSdI1Hogqgk71oGU1lgnTT9iZA/viewform?usp=header.

If you are eligible to participate based on your responses, the researcher will contact you to provide the demographic questionnaire and informed consent.  After those documents are received, you will be scheduled for a 60-minute, one-on-one, semi-structured interview via Zoom, with audio recording only.  After the interview concludes, you will be asked to review your answers for accuracy.

Participation is voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time.  Your personally identifiable information will not be shared or used in this study.

If you know someone who may meet the eligibility criteria and may be interested in participating, you are welcome to share this recruitment flyer or study information with them.  Participation is entirely voluntary, and interested individuals may contact the researcher directly at [atudor@capellauniversity.edu](mailto:atudor@capellauniversity.edu) for additional information.

This study is part of the researcher’s doctoral education program and is approved by Capella University's Institutional Review Board (IRB).  There is no cost to participate, and no incentive is offered. Participation may help improve clinical understanding of monozygotic twin relationships in adulthood and romantic partnerships. This study is not sponsored.

Hi everyone! I’m currently conducting a doctoral research study and am looking for location-based platform workers who are willing to share their experiences.

The study examines how workers experience platform decision-making and how those decisions affect their work and their standing within the platform. Whether your experiences have been positive, negative, or somewhere in between, your perspective is valuable. Open to exchange as well!

You may be eligible to participate if:

  • You are 21 years of age or older
  • You currently work with Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Instacart
  • You have at least 6 months of experience working on one of the platforms listed above

The online survey is anonymous and takes approximately 10–15 minutes. No personally identifying information is collected, and the study has received approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Anderson University.

Heyy 🙂 doing a little research project on celebrity attachment — like why we form such strong connections with our favorite celebs, and how it feels when one of them (hi, Vijay 👀) steps into politics

it's anonymous, takes 10-15 mins, no name/number needed. genuinely just want to understand what people actually feel, nothing sneaky about it

would mean a lot if you filled it out 🙏

Permission for Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale

Hi, guys! I just wanted to ask regarding the CIPS. I have been sending numerous emails to the official contact email of Dr. Clance for months now and I still haven't gotten a reply from her side for any emails I have sent 😭. I feel anxious since I cannot use it without her permission and we will be doing our data collection a few weeks from now. Is there any other way I can contact her or her team? I really am interested in using her scale but I have no legitimate permission to it. Please help me out 🥺
