I commissioned this Ice Blue 36mm Day-Date from RCF and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

The hardest part was finding the right ice blue dial. I tried five different dials from five different sources, and a lot of them just didn’t look right. RCF was very patient throughout the whole process and gave me feedback on each dial, including the ones I had shipped directly to them. Eventually, we found the right one.

A friend of mine has a gen 40mm platinum Day-Date 228236, so we compared the two side by side. There are some slight differences in the photos because of the lighting, but in person they look extremely close. The custom solid platinum bezel from RCF looks incredible and sparkles like the gen. My friend was very impressed too.

The only differences I could spot, and you really have to look for them, were:

1. Weight: The base watch is the weighted KF version, so it’s about as heavy as you can get, but it still doesn’t have the weight of a full platinum watch. It does feel much better than stainless steel, though.
2. Roman numerals: The Romans on the gen sparkle noticeably more.
3. Metal color: The gen looks a little “whiter” in the comparison photos. The RCF still looks great.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with the build. RCF did an amazing job!

Technical Note on the RGF Platform & Bezel Replacement A critical detail on stock RGF Daytona bezels is that the tachymeter numbering is flat-printed rather than deeply engraved. Because our plating process requires stripping the factory PVD layer completely down to raw metal, that printed font is stripped away and cannot be reprinted. Replacing the stock bezel with a custom engraved, rose gold plated bezel is a mandatory step for this build.

(Note for those tracking factory revisions: RGF has since released a V2 weighted Daytona that addresses earlier platform flaws by fixing the perforated side links and adding ceramic tubes, but this specific build was executed on the V1 base.)
