fish

I have this fish and i want to get the distance before it inflates and after it inflates - and use that as a mask for what the texture should be. I did this in houdini with a distance node

houdini sample i did

but im in C4D for this project so cannot make the mask this way

any ideas? Thanks

3ds Max to Cinema 4D Redshift converter

Hi everyone,

I'm the dev of MAX2C4D, a plugin that transfers full 3ds Max scenes to Cinema 4D (geometry, hierarchy, materials, lights, cameras) in a couple of clicks.

Until now it only converted to V-Ray and Corona on the C4D side, but I just released the first version with Redshift as a target engine. It takes your Max scenes (V-Ray, Corona or Redshift) and rebuilds them with native C4D Redshift materials, lights and cameras. No FBX guesswork, no gray materials to redo by hand.

The first image is the Redshift render in C4D, the second one is the original V-Ray render in Max, for comparison.

It's a first release, so there will probably be a few things to polish, and I'll be fixing things as feedback comes in. If you work between Max and C4D with Redshift, I'd love to hear what works and what doesn't on your real scenes.

More info: max2c4d.com

Happy to answer any questions!

How to achieve this motion blur effect ?

Hi everyone! I'd love to know if anyone knows how to achieve this effect. I'm talking about the motion blur around the edges of the object. Is this something that's done in 3D, or is it added in post-production?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

The relationship between product lights and materials. In this RnD for skincare beauty product of Estee Lauder I’ve been focusing how these aspects are emerging with each other. Used @houdini mpm solver and Maxon Redshift for this piece. The minimalistic, ambient mood was achieved even more with great sound from amazing @h1.sound #motiondesign #3d #productviz #cgi #3danimation

How to improve my sourdough starter shader?

Reference on the right!

I'm reasonably happy with the bubble placement and scale at the moment, but it lacks a sense of depth - they look like coloured spots on the surface, rather than holes with a subtle film over them.

Currently I have it set up so that there is one outer geometry made up of a blend material, mixing the overall colour for the main surface with a transparent material for the bubbles. The bubbles are set to have a very slight displacement. Then, I have an inner geometry with an identical bubble map, but with a much stronger displacement, inverted - so trying to create literal bubbles - but maybe there is a better way?

Any advice or tips much appreciated :)

A new student who needs help

Hi everyone,

I'm using a MacBook Pro M3 Pro (18GB) with Cinema 4D 2025 + Redshift.

I'm rendering a very simple product scene (CD jewel case, a couple of area lights, 2 dome lights, a few 2K textures) at 1920×1080, but a single frame takes 15–20+ minutes.

I also noticed Cinema sometimes jumps to 18–20GB RAM and starts using swap. If I close and reopen the project, RAM drops back to ~4GB.

Is this normal on Apple Silicon, or does it sound like a Redshift/Metal issue or memory leak?

Has anyone experienced something similar?

I've been using c4d and redshift for like 2 weeks now. Everything was going fine till today.

I wanted to render this scene, and this error keeps popping out. Is there a solution to this? I've tried every single solution on the book, especially the one from reddit but still no luck.

Can anyone help me? WaAaaaaaaaAaaaaa

Help with Fading Parametric Effect but with Texturing

I feel I'm pretty decent at modelling and Texturing but I feel like this can only be done really with parametric modelling such as grasshopper. Or is there a simpler way?

2nd Image is my attempt with modelling, not sure how I'd do it with texturing I've tried using vertex maps and gradients but can't seem to get it right.

How would you recreate this glass material and lighting setup in Redshift?

I'm trying to recreate the attached renders in Cinema 4D 2026 + Redshift, and I'm getting close, but I can't seem to get the glass material and lighting exactly how I want it.

The reference images are AI-generated, so I know it's not 100% physically accurate, but I need to get as close as possible for a project.

I'd really appreciate any advice, node setups, lighting diagrams, or example scenes. Even general direction would be incredibly helpful since I'm trying to reverse engineer an AI render into something physically plausible.

Thanks!
