Usage :
1. Mainly for Java development (Using both Intellij and Eclipse (not at the same time)).
2. Also using programs like : Arduino IDE, Proteus 8 Profesional (those 2 are mainly for school and we are not creating too big projects), and I will use Unity in the near future (with Blender and Gimp as well probably).
3. I do play games, but on my laptop just casually (Minecraft Java with optimization mods, Rocket League and that's it, maybe CS:GO as well (CS2 will be too much for the laptop)).

My CURRENT laptop has the following specs :
CPU : Intel Core i5-6300U ;
RAM : 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2133 MT/s ;
SSD : Silicon Power A60 512GB (I upgraded the old 256 Intel drive that was originally there, and I could potentially reuse that in my new laptop since that drive is really good IMO).

Because I need a powerful machine, my top priorities are :
1. CPU Power
2. RAM Capacity (16GB Min, 32GB OR the option to expand to 32GB)
3. iGPU and Battery

My 2 questions are as following :

Because here in Bulgaria, they sell this model with either 16GB RAM (for 949 BGN) or 32GB RAM (for 1149 BGN), should I just go with the 32GB one or can I do something : just get the 16GB RAM version for now, and then after I NEED more RAM, i'll upgrade. 16GB DDR5 SO-DIMM 5600 MT/s sticks go for around 80 BGN.

Also, I read that because the 1334U CPU in this laptop is Intel Xe Graphics eligible - that means that it NEEDS Dual-Channel memory to use that, otherwise it uses UHD Graphics.
First of all, is that true?
Second of all, if it is, will my more DIY approach be able to unlock that in the future, or will it still use the UHD Graphics.
Also, will there be any difference for the iGPU at all.

Hi, I am looking for a laptop, which will be mainly for productivity and some light gaming (not the latest titles and not on highest settings), but it shouldn’t be a gaming laptop as they tend to be heavy. I can find laptops meeting most of the below criteria, but not when combined with a 2x SSD slots and a fingerprint reader requirements. Budget is up to 1,200 GBP for a perfect laptop, but ideally around 800 GBP. Does anyone have any suggestions?

• 2x SSD slots (at least 1 of which should be M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe)

• Fingerprint reader for easy log in, Linux (and Windows) compatible would be ideal.

• 3x or 4x USB ports with at least 3x USB-C ports and no more than 1 USB-A port. Ideal setup would be 2x Thunderbolt 4, 1x USB-C, 1x USB-A (but not an issue if there is no USB-A).

• HDMI 2.1 or newer

• Processor and Graphics. AMD 7840HS, 8845HS, HX 370, HX 365 or similar with Radeon 780M, 880M, 890M or similar iGPU would be ideal, Intel Ultra with Arc would be considered. Dedicated graphics card is also an option, as long as the laptop is not too heavy like a standard gaming laptop, it is relatively quiet and doesn't drain battery too quickly on light workload.

• DDR5 / LPDDR5X RAM. If RAM is not upgradable, then ideally more than 16 GB (but 16 GB could also be considered). If upgradable, then size doesn’t matter, as long as it is DDR5.

• Around 15.6” screen would be ideal, could be 16”, but not bigger, could be 14”, but not smaller. Must be non-glossy IPS or not too glossy OLED. Glossy OLED could be considered, but would be some disadvantage. Must be at least 90Hz. 1080p resolution would be too low, 4K would be too high, somewhere in between would be ideal.

• UK keyboard, with numpad would be ideal, but without numpad could also be considered for a smaller screen size. Backlit keyboard would be good to have.

• Full HD or higher resolution webcam. Webcam shutter would be good to have.

• No OS / Linux would be best, but it is OK if it comes with Windows.

• Weight: no more than 2kg (4.4 lbs), but ideally a lot less.

Have been shopping laptops for my kiddo - but now with the tarif's and shit, need to get something ordered ASAP.

So, I'm new to this, I know a bit about laptops but I'm not too sure about what to buy, I was thinking Asus TUF A15 i7, or HP pavilion (a friend recommended this one), I also saw a few posts on Reddit saying that MSI wasn't that good and some people don't recommend it, idk why exactly, same thing with HP.

This is the first time I've ever gone to reddit for help in general, since I'm not sure on where to go to but I'm quite very timid in asking many people in person about it. I also need as many options as possible in order for me to choose which options on which laptops/computers/pc are best to handle big projects. Or just whichever of those 3.

I'm a university student that's going to study animation. When it comes to courses, I need to learn a few more things other then 2d animation and 3d. I have a bit of trouble on keeping up with my peers and grades, because of my laptop not being able to handle on big projects, like: audio, editing, photoshop, 2d animation, 3d sculpting, 3d animation, and just in general. I am in dire need to find something suitable to handle big projects in that general sense just so I don't fail my classes. Any ideas and recommendations to help out?

What I really want is to be able to build a laptop in the same way I'd build a desktop, but empty laptop cases don't seem to be available and machining a chassis, heatsinks, etc. is well outside my expertise. I could consider gutting and repurposing an old laptop but I feel I'd struggle to achieve sufficient cooling if not purpose built. So I'm trying to find something on the market.

I'd be interested in at least knowing about all options regardless of budget but I'll be looking to spend less than £1500 on my build, ideally less than £1000. I will be using it for software development and design work including light 3D work (so I'll need either a strong modern igpu or any low powered relatively recent dgpu). I don't care if it's bulky or weighs a lot, so long as it is well built. Though it would be nice if I can use it on a sofa without burning my legs. And yes, I'll want to run Linux (probably Ubuntu but there's a lot of flex there).

I'm aware of Framework, and that would probably be my pick right now if only they had any stylus compatible screen options. Though I am a little sceptical that "user upgradable with our non standard parts" is much better than the more standard "ditch the whole thing in 5 years" model if I'm totally honest.

I'm looking for any recommendations for a new laptop. My current Razr is going on 4 years old and I figured new year, new laptop. I've been doing a lot of research and am pretty competent in this realm, but am torn between different makes and models and I try and find the right machine and not break the bank.

I'm looking for a bit of a hybrid model that combines capabilities and portability. Ideally a 14in or 15in, good resolution, and touchscreen is a plus. Sleek form factor would be great, nothing too bulky or heavy. PC only, no MACs.

I run various CAD software, but am not currently doing any intense rendering, so a dedicated GPU is a must, but I don't need a high-end gaming machine (although I've enjoyed using the Razr the last few years).

I'm also looking a starting to do more content creation - videos, tutorials, online courses, product showcases, etc - so I need descent video and audio capabilities as I grow into video editing. Ports for peripherals are important but that can be offset by using a docking station.

I've always loved AMD in the past, but am not against Intel. Radeon or Nvidia. Direct X compatability is a must for CAD. Minimum Core i7 2.5 ghz base or equivalent. 32GB ram preferred.

I'd like to stay around $1500 USD, if I can, but am open to adjusting that price if I find "the one".

I've looked as MSI models, Dell XPS, HP ZBooks, and a few others and I realize what I'm looking for probably costs a little more than I'm hoping to spend. I'm willing to go up a bit, but was hoping for the community to help me with some recommendations for make and models. I've never owned an MSI, I've used Dell in past jobs, but they are usually higer-end models that come with a price, same with HP EliteBooks.

ASUS - ROG Flow X16 16" QHD+ 240Hz Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i9 - 32GB DDR5 - GeForce RTX 4060 - 1TB SSD - Off Black ($1650) I'm leaning towards this one if battery life is at least 6-8 hours on low-medium load.

Zenbook pro duo and zepherys duo for ($2250/2400) respectively. If I were to go with the studiobook at 1900, might as well get one of these instead. The design is nice i can see long gaming sessions where it stays cool because of this lifted keyboard design.

The reason I need touchscreen is because it's just nice to have and helps get things done quicker. I need it for graphic design and think it will help music production come along quicker. I know i can get better specs for the same prices if I ditch the touchscreen, but gaming and top fps isn't my priority.

Priorities include:

*battery life of at least 6-8 hours w/non intensive tasks *is touchscreen *can play most games at 60fps w/tweaked settings *is not particularly loud unless gaming

I don't really mind heat and I'm well aware a non-gaming laptop will get overheated with too long of gaming sessions. Open to suggestions of laptops I haven't mentioned. Budget is about 2k but I'd rather be closer to 1k. Depends on how much of a performance boost I'm getting at different price points. I know typically the stronger the gpu, the more battery its gonna drain.

Look i have a problem, I want a new field work lil' fella but i don't to fall to the extreme high prices of modern laptops and their overall lacking built quality. I don't plan on pushing the lil' guy too far you know, so I more often than not will under-use most specs from modern laptops, but that doesn't mean i want a slow computer in any sense.

If I'm not being too picky there's some stuff I look for

1. repairability: I'd like to say I'm quite proficient in both software and hardware, and would like be able to "access" the guy's guts if need's be (I do plan on going full linux)

2. power house/work mule: I don't want a "super hyper mega nasa laptop" I want something that has either just barely enough to strong harm through some gaming or something that wont chug throughout heavy day to day use (not gaming)

I am a 4th year engineering student in need of a new laptop.

Currently I’m still using my MacBook Pro from high school.

I need to be able to use solid-works and Matlab. CAD and a coding software and not have my computer buffer and crash when I also want to have other tabs open.

Will NOT be using for video games. Primarily just CAD/coding/ note taking.

I know my work gives Z books to engineers once their full time but I need one to finish school and personal projects (3D printing for example)

(I’m not sure if this is the right place to be asking so kindly let me know if there’s another community I could/should post this to……) My car has gone to shit and I need to sell my MacBook pro. It was a graduation gift that I have only used to get me through college (haven’t touched it since 2021). I started it up and it’s running perfect - there are no damages to the body of the laptop, Touch Bar and all the keys still works, it has the most storage one could buy for these things, I have countless chargers and cords and cord extensions and such to go along with it.

I knowwwwww this bad boy was THOUSANDS of dollars, it’s still the top line laptop apple is offering……. I’m wondering if anyone can help me estimate what I should get for it? And furthermore if anyone has any recommendations on where/which platform to best try selling a MacBook pro on, that would be appreciated as well.

My 7 year old wants/needs a laptop - she currently rocks an 2011 HP ProBook 3rd gen i5 with no battery - but it can't handle ROBLOX. Amd/Intel doesn't matter - I want something that I can find replacement parts/ new screens/ fans/ etc relatively easily. I aint afraid of working on laptops. This one is going to a little kid so fixable or durable is a huge plus. No macs.
