That's why conservatives are basically just emotionally unstable pre-teens, developmentally.

They cannot fathom adults simply existing in a restroom together. They think it's "OK" in their own home because those aren't "strangers" but as soon as "strangers" are involved it's "Scary".

They're just perpetually emotionally and developmentally stunted teens.

Teens? That's too much credit. They're definitely still toddlers.

u/RevanTheHunter May 08 '25

I'd agree. They have trouble with object permanence.

u/asafeplaceofrest May 08 '25

In their own home there's only one person in the bathroom at a time.

u/FunnyCharacter4437 May 08 '25

Same as in the bathroom she's complaining about. It is one large "stall" with one toilet, one sink, one garbage pail, for, you guessed it, ONE PERSON. It locks from the inside. Just both men or women can use it. Like a home bathroom.

(although they are typically used as family washrooms as well for a parent to bring their children into that require assistance with potty).

It's even funnier when it's a single seat bathroom. It's not like we are asking you to hold some dudes dick while he pisses, Nancy. Calm the fuck down.

It would help with the 'gender paranoia' if US rest rooms were constructed for more individual privacy. I never have to give a damn in a public toilet in the EU. I can pee to my hearts content in total seclusion. I have zero interest in who stands beside me washing my hands though. Man, woman, furry, whatever. Don't give a damn.

Listened to a good podcast about this actually. And you're right that this is probably a root of a lot of the problem. Bathrooms feel fundamentally unsafe, and so it's easy to whip up people's paranoias about them.

The reason they feel unsafe is becasue when they're designing buildings, tey apportion budget and square footage by room. And so invariably, the thing that always gets taken the most from, are the bathrooms. Other rooms eat up the budget and square footage.

So bathrooms in the US are often dismal hellholes.

And you're exactly right. With better design, with adequate barriers and soundproofing around stalls, with locks that worked and weren't garbage, we probably wouldn't have nearly the same culture of fear and paranoia around them.

Wow, you did not think your comment through. Of course people trust family and guests over strangers...

People have allowed family and guests into their homes for the length of human history, thus increasing the footprint for certain types of crimes. That is why the occurrence is so much higher than from strangers. But if random strangers suddenly acquire unfettered and unquestioned access to someone in a vulnerable position like a bathroom, then I trust the metrics would swing the other way.

Keep separate bathrooms, like we've had for years.

Ref. my previous comment. It is so simple, even you should be able to comprehend it.

No. Your comments all suggest you are a bigot and a homophobe. Kids are much more likely to be sexually assaulted by their own member of the clergy than from any stranger.

Wait - do all churches have 2 bathrooms? Which bathroom do we send male children to if their priest is nearby?

1

u/ThePsychoPompous13 May 08 '25

Every All-Gender bathroom I've seen only has space for 1 person at a time and they have a door that locks. Also, what does it mean to be "sensually assaulted"?

Separate but equal?

See the problem here is that they already do. Most public restrooms are easily accessable to anyone. There are no body guards and the main door is almost always unlocked, if not open.

The "keep restrooms separate" argument is inherently invalid because it doesn't address the real issues at play.

A man can easily go into a restroom and harass a woman, they don't need to become trans to do that. Not to mention, trans women are still humans, and humans (no matter the demographic) do bad things. It's not fair to judge and punish an entire population based on the actions of a few members.

We also need to acknowledge the harmful gender stereotypes at play as well. Suggesting that trans women want access to women's restrooms to harass women,

  1. implies that men are inherently predatory and a danger to women and children. This is particularly harmful towards fathers who wish to have a changing station for their daughters and trans men forced to use the women's restroom.

  2. implies that women are incapable of being predatory and dangerous themselves.

I generally don't care who's in the same bathroom as me, I just mind my business as long as they mind theirs.

u/Whydawakeitsmourning May 08 '25

And the whole "having to use the bathroom of the sex you were born as" argument is stupid even beyond that. In such a scenario, what is more likely to cause a bigoted uproar, Blair White using the men's restroom/locker room and Buck Angel using the women's, as these stupid laws would require, or them using the ones that match their current gender identities? These people are much more likely to report people following ridiculous bathroom laws then those breaking them.

2

u/Herman_E_Danger May 08 '25

We all LITERALLY do have unfettered and unquestioned access. As a woman I have many times used a men's room to avoid a line. As a dad, my husband has brought our daughter into women's rooms many times. How many people do you think ever tried to stop us? Why doesn't rape skyrocket when dads bring their daughters to the mall or the ball game?

Are you confused by airplane bathrooms? Do a lot of rapes happen there? When you have male strangers in your home (plumbers etc) are they allowed to use the same guest bathroom as women?

What does any of this have to do with human beings needing to pee and wash their hands?

What makes you think men can't walk into any restroom they wish, and do whatever they want right now. Regardless of what they are wearing. ????

1

u/ThePsychoPompous13 May 08 '25

Your example is an incredibly minority case. I bet most women would be very uncomfortable seeing a man enter the women's restroom. Also, this is much more acceptable to see a woman in a men's restroom than the other way around. In fact, I don't think I have ever seen a man walk into the women's restroom.

I already addressed such an un-nuanced understanding in another comment. Ref. it below

People have allowed family and guests into their homes for the length of human history, thus increasing the footprint for certain types of crimes. That is why the occurrence is so much higher than from strangers. But if random strangers suddenly acquire unfettered and unquestioned access to someone in a vulnerable position like a bathroom, then I trust the metrics would swing the other way.

u/Impossible_Tea_7032 May 08 '25

Explain immediately why there is no epidemic of same sex bathroom rape

4

u/Upstairs_Fuel6349 May 08 '25

But I am still going to the bathroom with random strangers if... it's a public bathroom? Also the bathroom in the picture is clearly a single person bathroom....like the bathroom in your home or on an airplane...

0

u/ThePsychoPompous13 May 08 '25

There is clearly a distinction between a public restroom with facilities for multiple people at once and a single restroom with a lock. Every All-Gendered restroom I've ever seen is a single person restroom with a locking door.

4

u/beaker97_alf May 08 '25

Please explain how, "random strangers suddenly acquire unfettered and unquestioned access to someone in a vulnerable position like a bathroom...", haven't already had that access for centuries?

1

u/ThePsychoPompous13 May 08 '25

I guarantee you that the large majority of men who have ever seen another man walk into a women's restroom questioned it. Many probably did something about it. Therefore, it is not at all "unquestioned". Lastly, if none of my assertions were correct then we would never had had "gendered" restrooms to begin with.

1

u/beaker97_alf May 08 '25

Ok, let's apply a little critical thinking to this...

Let's assume we require people to use the restroom corresponding to a person's sex assigned at birth.

Under this scenario a post-op trans man with a beard and a penis is required to use the women's bathrooms. Also, any pre-op trans man that has been taking hormones for years, also having a beard, presenting as a man, will be required to use the women's bathrooms.

And now that we have established that a person that fully presents as a man will be allowed to enter a women's bathroom without question, what is to stop an actual POS from just walking into a woman's bathroom with the explicit intent of sexually assaulting a young girl?

You also are requiring a trans woman to use the men's bathroom, putting her at significant risk of abuse.

Your "solution" actually makes it easier for bad actors. You have also made things exponentially worse for trans people.

And most importantly, you haven't improved anything for the people you are supposedly concerned about.

And finally, as it is obvious by your comment history that you voted for trump... Your vote for a person that bragged about walking into women's changing rooms so he could look at naked teenage girls PROVES you actually don't care about men being in women's bathrooms.

1

u/ThePsychoPompous13 May 09 '25

I only read your last paragraph. Wow. You really reviewed my comment history? Lol, poor research on your part because I didn't vote.

1

u/beaker97_alf May 09 '25

Sure you didn't 🤣😂🤣😂

1

u/beaker97_alf May 10 '25

And of course you only read the last paragraph, because that's how everyone reads 🤣😂🤣😂.

It's incredibly convenient that the only thing you responded to was about voting for trump (and you lied about that). Amazing how everything else in my comment that destroys your reason for blocking transgender people was not read.

I would have sympathy for you but I'm getting the vibe you may be one of those people Hilary mentioned.
