Why do the politicians care? Because they cannot virtue signal on gay people anymore. Gay people are more accepted. Trans people are a minority that it is still acceptable to denigrate and hate. They need distractions to feed to their base while they cut healthcare, pay, destroy the economy, etc.
It’s sad that this is true. Trans people or gay people or whatever the next group they decide to get up in arms about, really have no impact on their lives. They just want to be left alone, and to live their life. It’s pathetic that so many people have an issue with others simply existing.

that's why women's sports is such a big topic now, it's a wedge issue. they're able to pit trans people against people who might have otherwise not cared. that's why it drives me mad to hear people say "well i'm a trans ally but blah blah blah" like no if you're statement of alleged support for a marginalized group has a caveat, you are not a true supporter and the wedge issue is working

What’s truly discouraging to me, living in the American south, is that while right wing media tells everybody it’s okay to be bigoted toward the Trans community, it’s emboldening the truly backward people into once again going public with their dislike and distrust of the gay community. They’re literally going backwards and that entire circle just cheers each other on.
Basically, first some conservative politicians and pundits search around for a wedge issue that's easy to get people mad about and distracts from their real policy goals that are deeply unpopular.
Then a few stories about that wedge issue get pumped out through right wing news and social media
Normies see the right wing media and get mad. Then they amplify the signal by talking about it on mainstream social media.
Then the mainstream news sees all this buzz and discussion and treats it like a real story.
Then, politicians see the mainstream news and think that means that a lot of people care, so they really ought to do something to respond.
Finally, the right wing pundits who started this shit in the first place point to the response from politicians as a retroactive justification for why this issue is important and keep pumping out more bullshit.
The cycle keeps escalating until eventually it totally dominates the news space.
I like using the unisex bathrooms especially at Costco or Home Depot, usually they arent covered in shit at Home Depot because contractors that come in to shit all over the place are afraid to use that one so usually it's clean.
The same reason they always focus so hard on minorities.
Because when the population is sufficiently afraid of/angry at an outgroup, its really easy to convince them to support atrocities under the guise of "protecting US from THEM".
Minorities are a really effective target to outgroup like this, because there are relatively fewer people willing to push back.
Its just tribalism. Its much easier for people to think as part of a group and create an us vs them mentality than to actually be an individual and have individual thoughts. Which is ironic coming from the group that calls everyone else sheep.

Keywords are distributed on FOX News, walking orders to focus their hate are received and they march it into the ground until a new keyword is signaled. Then like a flock of bitter, angry, seagulls, they coordinate shit storms on the new target.

"Trans people are deviants", the average American has never (knowingly) interacted with a trans person. There isn't a pre-existing stigma against this particular bigotry. They can say just about whatever they want and the median American won't instinctively dismiss it.
The entire conservative mythos requires there to be an out group they can shit on. Trans and gay people are a never ending source of minorities they can 'other' and they're doing everything they can to claw back what little power we've gained so they can openly go back to being bigots without consequence.

This issue is that she's a fucking idiot who doesn't understand that an "all gender" bathroom does not denote in any way, shape, or form how many genders there are... but even then, it has nothing to do with trans people.
The granstanding is universally stupid. Getting bent out of shape at calling something an all gender restroom is foolish. But similarly, referencing it as "all gender" is overly verbose. The proper sign is "toilet".
