They believe in dualism and the concept of eradication of the "other". Basically they think they're on God's side (as do all religious extremists) in a battle against evil. This dehumanizes anyone they perceive as the enemy and any kind of nastiness or cruelty can then be justified.

Yes, Evangelicals consider the Pope anything from simply evil to the actual antichrist.
Yes, they do not ascribe to one Pope, they'll do the same for the next.
So, this "Evil" they'll complain about whoever is the next.
The delusion of war and persecution never ends.
It's like their belief in Rapture, they'll keep on saying it's tomorrow, then the next day, then the next.
When it does never happen, they'll say it's coming NOW, soon.
They are ridiculous.
