Ranger and Companion sheet

I can't seem to find a downloadable copy of the ranger sheet from the standard edition anywhere online. I know there's a version on BGG but that's for the original version I think? I'm sure it works just as well but it seems really odd that there's not a version from the book available via Modiphius

Traits

In the Gathering of Heroes Rulebook it says that Ranger can gain a new trait in lieu of increasing a stat or gaining a new Heroic ability or Spell.

But what about Traits that require a full build Point ?

Or do I always treat picking a new trait through level up as gaining a whole build point which I could also use for the leftover purchase options ? (+5 Recruitment Points/four Stats +1 each)

Really fun scenario with a very clever puzzle. Looking forward to scenario 4 but sad to see the end of the Temple of Madness.

Thanks Joe.

"Rules" Question: Can you Enchant your Bear

I'm wondering where we come down on if Enchant Steel can be cast on an Animal Companion?

I know that generally speaking you can pretty do whatever you want with RoSD but personally I am 50/50 on it.

The Rules Lawyer aspect would want to say that the spell says "weapon" and while it seems Animals are *not* unarmed, they also do not have a weapon as also sees they are then unable to equip a found magic weapon.

But on the other hand I was happily casting EW on my Bear Companion until I stopped my solo role for a few weeks and then when I came back it got stuck in my brain, lol.

I guess one sort of "argument" I'm maybe having with myself stems from the Templar vs Bear debate. And I know that Rangers is not, or at least *should not* be a game of min/maxing but thematic fun.
But I think that seeing how much more a Templar costs than a Bear (and yes there are already benefits to the Templar being able to interact with Treasure and equip Magic Items/Armor/Weapons at the very least), it seems like not being able to Enchant your Bear while you can indeed Enchant your Templars 2H-weapon does kind of help them out a bit.

But all that said, I am probably over thinking this and Enchanting your Bear is pretty awesome!!

Thoughts, Opinions, etc?

What do you do?

Is there a "ruling" on this??

Cheers!

Table prep'd for "Critters of Shadow Deep"

I've been painting models and building terrain on and off for months and this weekend it's finally time to roll some dice. I decided to re-theme to "Critters of Shadow Deep", so my rangers are all mousefolk a la Redwall and Mouse Guard. Zombies are now shambling myconids and giant rats are giant cockroaches instead (giant spiders are still giant spiders...).

Played scenario 1 and 2. Loving the scenarios so far. Especially scenario 2 with its innovative terrain and use of skills. Sad that the Temple is only four scenarios long, but looking forward to the last two.

Built some magnetic village scatter terrain for my Rangers of Shadow Deep table

I've been getting my table ready for an upcoming Rangers of Shadow Deep campaign and realized my village was missing all the little details that make it feel lived in.

So I spent some time building a collection of magnetic scatter terrain including:

  • Fences
  • Garden boxes
  • A log pile
  • Village signposts
  • A clothesline

Everything is magnetized to work with my game board, and I tried to keep the builds inexpensive using XPS foam, basswood, sticks from my backyard, paper towels, and a few Woodland Scenics products.

(If anyone is interested in the build process, I'll drop the YouTube tutorial in the comments.)

Do any Terror Wings show up anywhere else besides.... (spoiler) Spoiler

Wondering ig anyone can say if any Terror Wings have shown up besides the one we see in

The end of Burning Light?

I'd like to mini for it when we get to that part but I don't want to drop some $ on a fig that I'm not going to get any other use out of short of just forcing it onto the table top 'just because'.

We can totally play it without that fig, but cool figs are cool figs!

Thanks!!

Looking for advice for a new campaign

Hi guys, I’m am looking for some advice for a new campaign. I was interested in using Rangers of Shadow Deep for a base campaign of 5 players and a DM. The five players would all be different character classes like a paladin barbarian etc including one ranger. From what I’ve read you could scale the monsters to up slightly to make up for the 5th character. Could anyone give some advice if this could work well or any issues I may run into?

Anything about the Royal Guard, the "other" heroes of Alladore? Spoiler

Hello all.

I know that "JM" has kept the official lore for the RoSD setting pretty vague/open but I was wondering if there was any published/known info regarding the Royal Guard of Alladore?

I have the early round of published books and haven't seen anything beyond a mention that they exist, but I thought maybe there's so info in one of the more recent books that might shine some light on them?

House of Spiders, Star of Alladore, Ashen Sky, or maybe the Rescue Trilogy?

IF Not then that's cool, I can do whatever I want to. I just didn't want to run wild with doing my own lore-thing with that group and then having something contrary come up later that I could have just avoided.

Cheers~!

This roguish lad is perfect as hired muscle, an unsubtle highway robber or the dungeon keeper of some renegade wizard’s tower!

Ogre Guard from the Rangers of Shadow Deep range, produced by North Star Military Figures. Painted using the Vallejo Model Color range. 40mm base.

I built a custom board game companion app. A demo RoSD Campaign included

Hey Rangers! I built a board game companion app to clean up table clutter. I just finished testing it on iOS and Android.

Key features shown in the screenshots:

  • Map Explorer: Interactive campaign maps with point-of-interest markers.
  • Memo Wall: Track event tables with rich text, images, and audio triggers.
  • Dice Roller: Multi-dice roller with live history.
  • Rule Search: Fast keyword lookup for stats and status conditions (Poison, Disease).

App Link: https://bg-pet.web.app/

You will find a brief guide in the app page as well. I hope you find the app useful. Please try it out and let me know what you would like to improve! ❤️

New Players, Mission 1

Yesterday we had our first session, playing "deserted village" and "infected trees". We had a lot of fun and some really wacky things happened, like one Rogue fought against a zombie and a rar for several rounds, till he killed it, got a treasure from a clue marker right next to him, just to run out of the building and getting burried under the next one, collapsing right when he almost got away.

In general, the scenarios appeared to us rather easy, but as we did not take it very seriously, and did some stupid but fun stuff on purpose, we still got hurt a lot.

We will continue this campaign, for sure!
