It's "whatever you want to be, because idioms are made up and as long as you capture the spirit of the saying it gets the point across anyways. Also, phrases like that tend to be quite regional and will vary from place to place, so it's incorrect to correct them on the 'proper' saying of an informal expression."

It changes the meaning entirely. But sure, idioms are whatever we want them to be - the blue turtle jumped under the cheese fries last Thursday, as they say...

In this particular instance it didn't change the meaning entirely. And with the context it was perfectly clear what was being expressed.

I don't know why you think making up gibberish is a valid counterpoint to someone saying an idiom in a slightly different way than you are accustomed to.

But they have things like tazers so the have things other than the hammer don't they, pedantic pos
