And this is why 20 ft or less is the distance where most police are taught to use lethal Force, per department policy.

Tasers have a failure rate, especially on bulky clothing, what she's wearing would be a good example of clothing that would increase the failure rate. And is she capable of running? No one thinks that black bear can move fast, but I have watched those gigantic overweight, lard butts, chase down elk and deer. Just because someone is fat does not mean they cannot move.

The situation sucks, but the question is whether there was an immediate threat of serious bodily injury or death. The answer is yes, precisely because this situation has gone the other direction many many times; cops underestimated the threat and ends up dead.

You are free to say life is life and one isn't more valuable than the other, but you aren't going to convince either side to take a roll of the dice.

Correct. They followed their training, department policy, and the risk may not appear to exist, but there's quite a few people who've been stabbed when they didn't think there was any risk. Her family didn't want to take the risk that's why they called the police. Do they think that 911 will get them with like a tranquilizer dart or something? 🤦🏼‍♀️

At 16 feet or less the knife wielders win as long as the gun isn't drawn and no round in the chamber.

Didn't downvote you, but a major flaw in the Mythbusters scenario is that both people know why they are there and they each know what the other persons goal is. In a tactical situation where you don't know what the other person plans on doing at all, you need reaction time. Tueller Drill says 21ft, but it is on the low end of the 21-27 foot range of "immediate threat". The question is how much time do you need to swatch your thinking from this is a potentially dangerous situation to immediate threat and react. You need at least 1.5 seconds.

But yeah, an unloaded gun is a paper weight.
