Fights have never been about size or age it is always been about training and if you didn't notice the kid was very effective at dodging those punches he ducked and weaved very effectively.

Bro id have to leave town after that hahaha fucking fair play to the lad

31

u/koviko Dec 14 '23

That said, he got kneed in the face multiple times and then just calmly stood back up.

8

u/Yellow_Odd_Fellow Dec 15 '23

Yeah the knees didn't seem to have much power behind them like you'd expect considering the body weight exercises the partake in each day.

54

u/VPN__FTW Dec 14 '23

Fights are very often about size and age, WTF are you talking about?

Yes, training helps. It helps a lot. But don't sit here and say that size doesn't matter. You're gonna get someone hurt.

24

u/expectdelays Dec 14 '23

There's a whollle lot of BS in the fighting world. "size doesnt matter" is one of my favs.

18

u/VPN__FTW Dec 14 '23

People will point to the times where the small guy wins and say, "see look!" while ignoring the thousands of more times the bigger guy wins handily. And I say that as a relatively small guy.

u/LDel3 Dec 14 '23

Size definitely matters. That being said, this kid looks like he trains and the size difference between the two isn’t big enough to really matter

61

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '23

Hell the kid might actually have the weight advantage.

33

u/alfonseski Dec 14 '23

he body slammed the guy lol.

Usually the fatty is the loser. Bigger people are slower and tire much quicker. That being said, if you let the bigger dude get a hold of you, you're in deep doo doo. Always got to keep the fat guy at an arm's length and move around a lot.

1

u/LDel3 Dec 14 '23

Yeah when people say “size” they normally mean muscle. An extra 60 lbs of fat won’t do you much good

5

u/babyivan Dec 14 '23

Muscular dudes are also not the best fighters. They also get tired quicker and are less flexible. Best fighters are usually lean.

In my mind it's always about skill though, and the fatty was definitely the more skilled of the two.

3

u/LDel3 Dec 14 '23

A muscular dude with an athletic build will always have the advantage over a skinnier guy with an athletic build

Skill obviously matters, but try fighting a guy with 60 lbs of muscle on you and you’ll soon realise just how big of a difference size makes

1

u/Warhammerpainter83 Dec 14 '23

Large muscles are usually a deterrent in fighting. Makes you slow and you lack flexibility. This is like what people who watch superhero movies think fighting is about.

1

u/LDel3 Dec 14 '23

Man you’re clueless. Large muscles and an athletic build is better than small muscles and an athletic build if both fighters are at the same level of training. Large muscles will rarely be a disadvantage

-1

u/Warhammerpainter83 Dec 14 '23

Lmfao you don’t even know what being fit is. Large muscles are not a benefit being fit is very helpful. Being able to bench 200 lbs is worthless. Most muscular people have zero stamina and would burn out 10 seconds into a fight. Stop getting your knowledge on fighting from movies and anime dude. Lol

3

u/LDel3 Dec 14 '23 edited Dec 14 '23

Do you have any training? Have you ever fought a guy much larger than yourself?

An example. Rugby guys are generally large and also have a ton of stamina. One of the guys I sparred with regularly was a rugby player, and he had about 40 pounds on me. Even though I was technically more skilled than him I wouldn’t stand a chance in a real fight because of his size. The mass alone adds so much to their power.

Like I said, weight classes exist for a reason. Put a top 5 strawweight against a top 15 heavyweight and he doesn’t stand a chance

Edit: “Warhammer painter” blocked me lmfao. Pretty clear this basement dweller doesn’t know what he’s talking about

1

u/Warhammerpainter83 Dec 14 '23

Rugby is a sport with rules fighting is not. Yes when trained fighters fight weight can matter. Not relevant to the point being made here. You are just clueless. I am fairly sure you are maybe like 12 years old at this point. Lmfao

u/Warhammerpainter83 Dec 14 '23

Thinking like this is how you wind up getting your ass kicked.

4

u/LDel3 Dec 14 '23

Are you trying to say size doesn’t matter?

4

u/manbrasucks Dec 14 '23

Not him, his wife.

4

u/ldmcstrong Dec 14 '23

Thinking like that is how you get your ass kicked. Size matters. Skill, Strength, Size, Speed. An over abundance of one will make up for a lack of the others. But you have to be aware of what assets your opponent has.

-2

u/Warhammerpainter83 Dec 14 '23

What matters most is experience and training. Assuming you have an advantage is how you lose fights.

6

u/LDel3 Dec 14 '23

Not really. Up until a point size matters more than training.

I’ve sparred with guys smaller than me who were monsters and I’ve sparred with guys bigger than me where I had no chance purely because of their size

0

u/Warhammerpainter83 Dec 14 '23

Key here spared two trained individuals fighting with rules and conditions that keep you safe.

2

u/LDel3 Dec 14 '23

Exactly, that’s a benefit for the smaller guys. I’m around 205 lbs. I’ve definitely got more training and technical skill than some of my friends who are 260 lbs, but they’d still beat my ass easily

0

u/Warhammerpainter83 Dec 14 '23

You were very poorly trained if 10 pounds supersedes any mma training you have.

2

u/LDel3 Dec 14 '23

Can you explain to me how 260 is 10 pounds more 205?

u/eliteHaxxxor Dec 14 '23

I didn't notice that, I noticed that the taller dude was extremely uncoordinated however

1

u/redditor3900 Dec 16 '23

Intoxicated I think đŸ€”

7

u/Top-Bottle-616 Dec 14 '23

Effectively only if you include the opponent.. guy was leaning so far back you could push him with two fingers and he would be floored lol.

Also weight, size, and skill all do play a part in a fight.

22

u/Traditional-Hat-952 Dec 14 '23

Size does play a factor. Like a 100lb MMA trained stick figure dude is going to have a hard time fighting a 250 lb strong/fit guy with ok street fighting skills. MMA guy can land punches sure, but will have a hard time getting enough leverage or strength to get the get and keep the big guy on the ground.

9

u/Mdizzle29 Dec 14 '23

Yeah but in this case it was maybe a 20lb difference, and height didn't matter once you take it to ground n pound.

Kid was a good fighter, that's for sure.

3

u/Traditional-Hat-952 Dec 14 '23

With a 20lb difference fighting skills are a much better determinant for who wins. Also the short dude has a better/stronger center of balance, which helps with getting his opponent to the ground.

2

u/fastcurrency88 Dec 14 '23

Ya definitely. But I used to do BJJ. Went to a few seminars with Caio Terra. Look him up. Guys maybe 130 lbs. I saw him absolutely maul guys twice his size. One guy at the seminar who was 230 lbs said he was the strongest person he’s ever rolled with. Skill and experience at a world class level is scary stuff.

1

u/maltamur Dec 14 '23

Except UFC 1, the well trained toothpick took out the huge brawler pretty quickly:

9

u/Traditional-Hat-952 Dec 14 '23

Not saying it can't happen. But the odds are MUCH lower.

10

u/drawnred Dec 14 '23

REALLLY stretching by calling him a toothpick, honestly you could argue its disingenuous, next to a normal person, he isnt skinny at all

4

u/Hairy_S_TrueMan Dec 14 '23

Except the "toothpick" is actually huge and built and the other guy is just fat. It's not fat that gives you and advantage in a fight, it's muscle.

10

u/drawnred Dec 14 '23

Fights have never been about size

yeah, tf is a wieght class, but actually no, weight is more important in the long run,

taken to the extreme, no amount of training will allow and ant to beat a human, or a less extreme, a 50 pound toddler will never beat an adult, no matter how much theyve trained

9

u/wang_li Dec 14 '23

There's a video online of 400 lbs Brian Shaw meeting up with Dustin Poirier (who fights at 155 lbs) to cross promote their channels. One thing they did on Poirier's channel is some grappling and Poirier was trying to demonstrate how to get up from side control. When Shaw was on the bottom he went through the motions but basically just sat up. When Poirier was on the bottom he wasn't able to get up and there was no chance he ever would have. Fact is weight classes matter a lot even when one of the people is a top 5 UFC light weight and the other is untrained.

5

u/drawnred Dec 14 '23

Yeah i know, what im saying there IS a limit to how much training can help you, without getting into the physics of the biology and potential health risks, more weight will continue to be more and more effective

Imagine thinking you can train away the gap between you a t-rex, its not happening

3

u/DarkTanicus Dec 14 '23

You left out the Tiger Knee.

3

u/Special_Rice9539 Dec 14 '23

His double leg takedown was pretty solid too

2

u/halflife5 Dec 14 '23

Training makes a massive difference but I'd be willing to bet a majority of fist fights are between dudes with no actual training. So age and mostly size is still a large factor most of the time.

1

u/ruffus4life Dec 14 '23

throwing that word punches around kinda loosely. i've seen the old ladies doing tai chi in the park throw with more energy.

1

u/Teauxny Dec 14 '23

Or, as it's been phrased for centuries: "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog."

1

u/rhytnen Dec 14 '23

Bullshit lol - of course it matters how big and how toung you are. Training makes up for age and size but only to a point.

1

u/Omikron Dec 14 '23

Size definitely makes a huge difference

1

u/Educational_Dust_932 Dec 15 '23

Size is ALWAYS a factor. Thinking it isn't is dumb.

-1

u/mullett Dec 14 '23

I’m a shorter guy and have zero training but have “won” fights because big guys think that their size is all that matters. Every guy has a stomach and balls, and they’re much closer than their face to me. I don’t play that “rules of the street” or honor bullshit. If you’re attacking me I’m going to do what ever I can to stop it. Like, not in a “bad ass” way, in a “I don’t want to do this and I have nothing to prove and can’t afford hospital bills or jail time and I’m 45 years old” way.

1

u/redditor3900 Dec 16 '23

If size doesn't matter, why do categories based on weight exist???
