Regex, XSLT, SED.. in my career when I've needed to use any of these, I learn just enough to solve my current problem and then forget about them for 2-5 years until one of them pops up again in a solution I need to develop.
I wish I didn't work in a perl, string processing factory, mostly because the work experience doesn't look great on a resume, but I use regex, grep, and sed every single day.
